Berserk Presentation...

Hey everybody,
So I have to do a school presentation at the Art Institute for my background and character design class, and I wanted to do something that the majority would not be familiar with so I chose to do Berserk. I was wondering if anyone knows of any published interviews with Miura that are in actual print (not Web) or just anything I can use as a literary source for providing information on the books/anime/movie/games. I can use online sources but I'd like at least one or two printed ones, though I'm not having much luck. Even a magazine article would be better than nothing.....would anyone be so kind as to help me out?

Does an interview on a DVD count? If so there's an audio interview of him subtitled in English available on the US DVD set of the Berserk TV series.

Yeah, I should be able to use that, I already knew about that one but thanks for trying to help! :ubik: That's the problem with using something like Berserk, it's so hard to find anything tangible....

I know that there are a lot of printed statements Miura has made through Young Animal, though I'm not sure how you'd even be able to get your hands on those, let alone translate them. Maybe there's a printed statement in one of the Berserk artbooks, if you haven't checked those out.

  • Transcript of the anime DVD interview: http://www.thespectrum.net/berserk_info_creator.shtml
  • The Berserk Illustrations File (ISBN 4-592-73138-7) has a 4 page printed interview, but to my knowledge it's never been fully translated into English. Partial translation available here: http://www.skullknight.net/forum/index.php?topic=540.msg9578#msg9578
  • Miura replied to our request for an interview via letter in 2009. His translated responses to our questions are here: http://www.skullknight.net/forum/index.php?topic=9513.msg166308#msg166308
  • Puella graciously translated an interview with Miura conducted after the 2002 Osamu Tezuka Cultural Awards ceremony: http://www.skullknight.net/forum/index.php?topic=1293.msg22495#msg22495
  • And here's another interview, translated from Italian: http://www.skullknight.net/forum/index.php?topic=1490.msg26646#msg26646

Hope that helps some. There;s actually a wealth of interviews he's done. The trouble is that the vast majority of them are locked away behind the language barrier, and difficult to track down.

Walter gave you all you're likely to find. There's more of course, and some pretty nifty stuff too, but it's all in Japanese.

Thanks, I do appreciate it. It's unfortunate about the language barrier, but that's to be expected and I knew this going into it....I just really wanted to do Berserk!

I realize this is probably beyond the purview of your project, but this is a very valuable resource when trying to track down Miura interviews: http://homepage2.nifty.com/side_b/archive_etc.html#guinnavi

It lists many different publications that Miura has been featured in, including interviews. Of course, these are all in Japanese. And the magazines themselves are likely close to impossible to track down. But I'm sure if one was resourceful enough, they could be had. I actually think Aaz owns a few of them.
