Medieval Swordfighting

I'm currently learning medieval swordfighting at the AMEK (http://www.zwaardvechten.nl/content.php) and it's been great.

Being 37, overweight and so out of shape it's unbelievable, swinging a dussak (training "sword") feels like the Dragon Slayer after a few minutes. Only makes me appreciate more the sheer power of Guts and why we see so many times in the manga his opponents freak out at how he manages to swing that BFS...

Anyway anybody else interested in swordfighting? What about behourd?

I have an interest in swordfighting, but there are surprisingly little outfits where I live. Glad to know you're enjoying yourself though. Given enough time and dedication maybe that unwanted weight will even disappear. :slan:

If you live in the region of Paris, there are a few groups that you could contact.

Check http://www.combatmedieval.com/ for more info. :guts:

Now this is a topic I can get into. There isn't that much in the way of medieval sword fighting that goes on in the U.S. either, but competitive jousting is taking off in a big way (a lot of Europeans actually fly over to compete). Several reality tv show channels have attempted series based on it, and The History Channel has just picked up Full Metal Jousting. Check this out - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wh5tsGQ9KLQ

National Geographic is showing their rival series Knights of Mayhem - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSb-JgaI4cc

Here is the official Knights of Mayhem (basically the MLB of jousting) website - http://www.knightsofmayhem.com/

Check out this article for more info - http://travel.cnn.com/modern-renaissance-real-jousting-tournaments-340041

It's a real, competitive sport that is just getting off of the ground. I take a day each year and go to my state's Renaissance Fair, and the Knights of Mayhem happened to be there. It's a really cool show, and anyone can get involved if you're interested in it. My problem is that I typically am laid off in the winter and work in summer, or I would try to. It's interesting stuff, if you're into sword fighting you should check this out.
