Berserk Manga Reviewers on Youtube
« on: April 28, 2015, 07:35:31 AM »
There are plenty of Berserk reviewers on YouTube(King of Lightning, TheJorishae, AnrikuZero etc.) but there's one guy in particular that I would like to mention.

Jacob runs the channel ChibiReviews on YouTube and has done 5 Episode Reviews(Vol 1-2), 3 Live Reactions(Vol 13, Vol 26, Vol 34) and 35 volume Reviews(Vol 3-Vol 37).It is currently his favorite series of all time.

All I can say is that these reviews/reactions are very entertaining and everyone should check them out!!  :guts:
Note: He hasn't reviewed the latest episodes for some unknown reason. He has read them though.

I don't know about amazing, but they're better than the few others I've seen. Gets some things wrong though. He should register an account here to discuss the series. :slan:

Hahaha Yes he does get some things wrong but the fandom is quick to clarify it for him so no worries there. The best one is The Volume 4 Review  :serpico:

I hadn't seen this guy's channel until today, but I've seen many Berserk manga video reviews. Some are quite bad -- often downright embarrassing. But it's nice that this guy seems more well-spoken than most, and he's certainly enthusiastic about the series.

That being said, I still don't quite understand the purpose or people's interest in video series like these. They're clearly not for new fans, and those that already are familiar with the series won't necessarily learn anything new from these, because the whole point is that it's a direct response to the manga from a new reader. So ... is it just a way for people to experience someone else's enthusiasm vicariously?

I only viewed the video for volume 37 and agree with you Walter.

I remember this reviewer, Jaze posted a link back in December by accident - http://www.skullknight.net/forum/index.php?topic=11891.msg232712#msg232712

The kid's got spunk and passion.  He has some interesting insights along the way, but mostly it's fun to listen to someone experience the series for the first time.

You should watch his reaction video to volume 26 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQrecYgIJ5s

I remember stumbling into that link. I mean, I guess I can't really say much since I've had moments where I've audibly gasped and what not ( :rickert: anyone?), but certainly nothing to the extreme this guy takes it in the video. I imagine some of that is hamming it up for his audience.

In some ways I understand the fascination with watching someone react to stuff. Like Walter said, I think it's a way to vicariously experience the shock of the series again, but watching an hour log video of someone reading a book is weird to me. Especially when these guys to live streams of live reactions. I just don't get that.

Ugh, I don't really have words for this. Youtube is a mysterious beast. I used to think it was hard to get on the payroll, but I've found that it doesn't seem too difficult...
