Hi !
So for some reason, I decided a while ago my first cosplay ever would be Rakshas from Berserk. I've used the character as an avatar for a roleplaying community for years and it just kept stuck in my head. I had do it for my first convention.
Rakshas cosplays are very rare. As far as I know, there's only 2 other attemps according to the web. They also had limitations such as movement and eyesight (they were blind wearing the mask !)
My objectives thus were :
1) Eyesight . I did not want the cosplay to be a standing still or moving blindly thing since I would have to move between panels at the convention. I'm not about to stay in the cosplay room the whole weekend !
2) Illuminated eyes. I think every cosplay needs a quirk and that would be mine, using DELs to light up the red eyes with flashing distortion while moving.
The results :
Disastrous, well kinda. I can through the mask just fine but my field of vision is limited. I'm pretty much blind when the DELs are on sadly, even though I used reflective lenses and mirrored glasses underneath. Mobility was also very bad because I lacked time to polish the robe. It dragged on the ground, which isn't that bad, but people in convention do not walk in straight lines. They are looking at cosplay so they tend to jiggle left and right. By the end of the day I only kept the mask on, which is enough because people recognized it instantly ! I also broke 2 teeth in the weeking. Model Magic clay is light and easy to work with, but it stays very fragile and will crack easily. There is a need for affordable middleweight hardening clay in this world. I did a simple shoot with a beyblade friend, so if it looks really out of place but we had a blast haha
If any of you are interested, I will post crafting photos and notes about the making of this costume !
Cheers !
