Any Berserk original art out there?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had or knew how to get a hold of some Berserk original artwork (the artwork used to make covers, interior pages, etc.). I don't have a huge collection (more of a quality over quantity collector) but the one manga series I'd be interested in is Berserk which I've been following every since I picked up the anime DVDs back when they came out in the US (probably around 2002).

I've searched around and it seems that collecting manga artwork isn't as common as with western comics.

I'd love to get a nice cover or splash page from Berserk. Searching these forums and others I saw threads about how a piece popped up on yahoo auctions but that was a thread from 2003.

Does anyone know if Kentaro Miura sells his work? Next step if he does would be to use one of those go in between services for importing things from Japan.

Here is the one original art I've seen posted online from someone's collection: http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=725091

He doesn't, the only time pieces from him become available is as part of contests for very specific occasions. Lithographs of some covers were sold around 15 years ago but even that was a rare occurrence and hasn't happened again. I certainly wish there were more available myself, but they're very rare.

Hmm, is that truly authentic, I wonder? If so, I'm curious to know how he acquired it.

Thanks for the info.

It seems like manga artists don't sell their work as much as western artists. I wonder if he is just sitting on the thousands of pages stacked up somewhere.

Is there a market for original art from manga? I googled around and it didn't seem to be much out there and just a few discussions on it in English.

That would be my guess.

Mandarake can have some good stuff, last year they had a signed portray of Guts for sale for example (and accessible to foreigners, too). But those are auctions, so same as Yahoo! Japan auctions, it all depends on someone deciding to sell a piece of art they acquired elsewhere.

Thanks for the link. Some fun stuff searching through the ended auctions. Looks like pretty much no actual panels or covers are sold - mostly just head sketches (with a few exceptions). With there not being much work available those prices are pretty high. Supply and demand drives all collectibles though. Like for western comics Greg Capullo has been the artist for the Batman relaunch about 5 years ago and he didn't sell any work for most of his whole run until recently. Now he drips it out and puts very high prices (like $35,000 for a cover).

Bumping up this topic I was poking on yahoo auctions and saw this.

The art looks off, so I was wondering what this was being sold as? Is this supposed to be a sketch my Miura? I put the description through google translate and it looks like the seller is saying he got it from someone else on Yahoo Auctions.

I've seen it before, it's been around for years. It's a crudely executed fake "official" piece of art. The fact the guy faked Miura's autograph on it makes it pretty obvious what the intent is (to scam people). Despicable behavior, but fortunately the artwork is so bad, no one should be fooled.

Oh yes I remember this one... it has been sold back in 2012.
The previous seller/scammer was selling 4 different artworks... all of them were fakes and had a bad imitation of Miura's signature.
