New computer technology

Does anybody have a clue what these quantistic or quantic computers that are supposed to come in the future are about?
Some guys were speaking today about it and I have no clue.
Some random key words I got were "alpha team", "intel" and the concept of a new "godlike" level around computers.
One also mentioned a documentary in discovery channel.
Because those guys are my collegues, which means medicine students, I can't trust what they were saying about exactly but maybe there is something there that if so I would like to check out. So anybody a hint?

Your greatest act of courage

In the same line of Eddie's thread... what are your greatest(s) act(s) of courage ?

Mine is when i saved a guy from a car accident.. his car was burning and no one went to get him out (he lost conciousness). I was coming back from an evening class at college in the summer (about 3-4 years ago) and i saw cars along the road and fire in the bush, i thought it was a little bush fire because it was the dry season so i continued my way.. but my consience told me to stop (i still don't know why..) so i stopped by the road and saw it was a car on fire, i asked some people by the road if there was still someone in the car, no one answered.. and then we heard lametations from the car. People were telling everyone to not go by the car in case it explode.. people believe too much in movies ::) so i went to get the guy out of the car, his legs were burning. It's when i was pulling the guy out that 2 other guys came to help me.. about a minute or 2 after that (i didn't have the sense of time because of adrenalin) the gas tank exploded... it's not that spectacular :p i would have been burned but i could have get the guy out anyways i think.

The guy smelled alcool so much... i think it's sad because when i got back to my car... i saw pictures of him and his little daughter. I don't know what happened to him...

I think it's my greatest act of courage.. i don't want any medal or something tho.. i just did what i had to.

So what's yours ?

Re:Your greatest act of courage

The most couragest thing I've ever done was when me and my cousin were blading. He was going to cross the street but a car was coming from the right but he didn't see it coming because there were cars parked that blocked his view.

I was 6 feet behind my cousin so I had to act quickly so I went blading towards my cousin quickly grap his arm pull him towards me ,the car still hit him on the side and it spinned my cousin around but my cousin wasn't hurt just stunned as to what happened. Then he bladed home crying ::). *heh he never said thanks for saving his life* :-\

Re:Your greatest act of courage

Well my actions were more or less caused by the relationship me and her had and not anything of courage.

Me and my friend Jenna were on our bikes. We were about to go down a hill called urbana, she was on the right side of the road and when you're on the right side of urbana you wont see a car until it pulls out. I was drifting on the far left, we were almost at the intersection and I saw a car I feel had no intention of stopping before the stopsign. I darted across and braked in the middle of the intersection, both her and the car came to a short stop. The guy didn't thank me from saving his ass from bieng taken to court from wreckless driving (the shmuck was through the stopsign anyway, no stop, just went). He was this cuccine bastard and was going crazy over it and then finally just drove through and flipped me the bird, I was 11 at the time btw. As for Jenna she had this horrified look on her face. Back at her house she was still shaken up a bit she said "Why didn't you just yell stop?" I said "cause I had to be sure". Basically that was the end of that, it's beautiful how such a good relationship like that one can end 4 years later because we can't agree about god or music. Oh and her friends hate me cuz i aint gangsta.

but in most things I'm a coward, so i guess i was just drunk on her cutness or the feelings i had for her, oh well.

Masturbating on a sleeping child, and it's funny because that required a lot of courage and also it fit with those other threads as it was the most disturbing event in my life as well as being the stupidest thing I've ever done :-*

Re:Your greatest act of courage

Yep. Flunked like forever.......haha. First and last time I ever had a black eye. Vamp was askin why I fought. Well, I defended a friend of mine. The bully used to take his money and shit. I just got tired of seeing that shit happen. So I popped in in the jaw the hardest I could. When he didn't fall, I knew I was in for shit. But i fought back anyway, till the aids broke us up.

If you filmed it, you could be your own favorite porn star, too.

Re:Your greatest act of courage

I've never really done anything courageous (nothing major's ever really happened), but like 7MD, I stood up to some bullies...this was back when I lived in Canada. For some reason as a kid, I had a real hive/insect mentality...that is, I thought it was most logical that if everyone worked and acted together, threats would be neutralized with minimal losses (like mobbing an armed man, some would die, but he would be subdued at least). Most of the confrontations never progressed to actual fights, though. Once a friend of mine was being sat on (go figure) and pushed around, and all my friends (which pretty much consisted of all the 10-12 guys in my 20-25 person class) were just standing around watching...so I go up to the kid and push him off, and he was off balance and stumbled back quite a ways (making me look like a badass). Later on the kid ganged up on me and tried to start a 1-on-1, but there were too many spectators so he couldn't do anything (I'd probably have gotten my ass kicked, since I was really small and had no idea how to fight).

Oh yeah, that was all in 4th grade. The bullies were in 5th.

Re:Your greatest act of courage

According to my former next door neighbor, I saved her child from being hit by a car by dashing into the street, grabbing him, and lunging out of the way of the speeding vehicle.

The strange thing is, I have no memory of this at all. My family ran into her at a restaurant and she started gushing over me and recounting the tale, that's the only reason I know. But I do have some brief memories (like of her telling the kid to stay out of the street, and how cars are dangerous on the road near the house) and some feelings that make it seem like what she's saying makes sense and in fact did happen. If it's true, I guess it's pure courage since I didn't have any other motive for it and don't even remember. =)

Of course, I can't say it's my greatest act of courage; for all I know, I save a kid from being run down everyday and God knows what but I simply don't remember. ;D

Re:Your greatest act of courage

Wow, well i can'ty really say that anything i have done so far in my life has truly been "courageous"....but people always tell me that my desire to work with troubled people is inspiring. I coaxed one of my friends from school out of commiting suicide sophmore year of college, and i also put together an intervention for another friend that was addicted to cocaine at the tender age of 16. That was three years ago and he has been clean ever since his family and i forced him into rehab.

Those aren't really "acts" but these are some of the most important things i have done in my life so far. ;D

Wow, its more then I could do. I would probably end up not taking them seriously :-\.

Anyways, most courageous thing... probably goes back to my elementery days ;D. One time, on the top of those little wooden forts that elementry schools let us play on during recess, my friend got into a fight with this big basterd and the basterd pushed my friend off of the fort, causing my friend to break his arm. The teacher came rushing in, and before I could do anything, recess was over because of a kids injury. The next day my friend came back with a cast on, and i was hellbent on avenging his loss. Even though i knew the basterd could kick my ass, i ran up to him anyways during the next recess, kicked him in the stomach, making him crumple down crying. Then I kicked him in the face, causing him to get some of that dirty blood out of his system... then i ran away. Im glad I never got in trouble for that, because after that, the stupid basterd was so scared of me he wouldn't tell on me. I was so proud of myself.

Nowadays though, im usually a pussy. I never punch people anymore, i just use myself verbally. God damnit, i loved the old days. Now im too worried about permenant records and maybe he can kick my ass or my social standing to get in fights. Besides, girls dont like it when you fight too much :p.
