The one and only severed head
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is pretty awesome, though it shares little in common with Berserk other than great art, a dark atmosphere, and some awesome swordfights.

Right on Aazealh. Don't forget no plot!

Anyway, what exactly are you looking for in the anime? Even Genres have sub-genres. What attracted you to Berserk and Kenshin that you are looking for in other anime?

Anime...well If u choose to go with Manga...VAGABOND is the shit.....(someone can correct me if im wrong, but its the top seller in Japan....it even beat out Berserk). :SK:

I'm correcting you right now then, Vagabond isn't the top seller in Japan... Check up your facts before posting please.

As for Gungrave, I'm sorry to tell you guys that I don't find it to be good. The resemblance some of its elements have to the Berserk anime doesn't change anything, at most it worsens my opinion.

No probably involved here, Naruto sells much more than Berserk does, and Dragon Ball sold more in its time of course.

just finished watchin samurai champloo last night... it was total shit... after epi 21 (zombies?!?) i realized finishing the series would be more work than enjoyable and put it off for awhile... yes the animation was nice but it was pointless from beginning to end... i feel the same about cowboy bebop btw... i guess it is just not my cup a tea... i prefer anime that goes somewhere and has signifigant character relations and developement...

GunGrave sucked ass, if you liked GunGrave you'd love FF advent children.

For good anime? FLCL, Lain, and tho Manga, you HAVE to read BLAME! it's simply gorgeous, i wont say the story is top notch, but despite plot holes and being confusing as fuck, you'll be thinking about it for days, wishing you could figure it out, thinking how cool it .s

those who love BERSERK should check out a manga / manhwa called SHIN ANGYO ONSHI which is a korean-japanese manga about a wandering warrior, the following link is a bio of the movie which was a summary of briefly the first 5 volumes:

http://anidb.info/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=animelist&adb.search=shin+angyo&do.search=search

read it, and tell me what similarities you have found :p

This journey isn't ov--AARGH!
Gungrave, by itself, is an excellent series. Comparing it to Berserk would down play it, because of Berserks (plot) strength. It's probably my favourite anime, actually.

As for Vagabond -- it's great. It deviates from the Eiji Yoshikawa's MUSASHI story a little, but not so much that it makes the manga worse. I'd recommend the book over it, but that's another topic all together :badbone:

I liked Samurai Champloo, I really shouldnt as many people said it didnt have a good plot, characters outside the main 3 were one shots only, and so on. However I somehow ended up liking it, maybe it was the quirkiness of the show and the eclectic nature of the show. I of course enjoyed the music like most but yeah, not sure why I liked it, just did; though the zombie and baseball episodes were great.

I'm with you there, hawiianstation. I loved every episode (well, almost every episode, #5 was kinda boring...) from beginning to end. The fighting at the end of the series was really worth it too.

I actually preferred the end of Champloo to the beginning. The beginning was rather aimless despite the overall theme of "searching" for the Sunflower Samurai; not to mention the fights werent nearly as good after the first episode compared to those in the second half of the series and the episodes in the second half were often more interesting, crazier, and were better done.

There were a few good episodes in the first half such as the first to, but aside for the one where Mugen fights the chi fighter, there werent many others I liked. I guess the one with the gay Dutch guy was sort of funny, but the series really picked up towards the end.

Seriously though I think two of the best episodes where ones that had nothing to do with the story and were placed right when the story was actually becoming clear and the main focus, not to mention that all the main characters die in each (at least supposedly in one episode). Yeah the baseball and zombie episode rocked.
