actually i was talking about the one on the PS2, wasn't the one quoted earlier from the DS? I know i didn't put it in the post at the time, cuz i couldn't remember the name.

Oh, that changes everything then. The one I quoted earlier is originally from the GBA game (Aria of Sorrow), the recent NDS game having a slightly different version of it. Could you get a screenshot of the weapon and the accompanying caption from the PS2 game (Curse of Darkness I imagine) if possible? That'd be cool. :guts:

The World Eaters are here to save us!
I'll see if i can't chimp one from the interweb some where.  Feed me a banana and i'll see what i can do.  I found this on how to make the weapon and its stats:

Dragon Killer Atk: +55
Materials: Nodachi (1), Claymore (1), Ceramics (1)
Flavor Text: A massive dual-handed sword.  Great for taking out big monsters...so long as you can swing it.
Category: Two-Handed sword
Weapon number: 15
Effects:  Four Swings + Final Attack = Walking Wall of Spinning Steel!

Looks like it. Good find. I merged this thread with another one about references to Berserk, I hope you don't mind.

Also, here are some pictures of what Meathook was talking about:

Thanks to Handsome Rakshas and the CastleVania Dungeon Forums users for these. And as a bonus, a DS lookalike from Golden Sun I found long ago:

Is that from Golden Sun 2? I played the first one to death, but I don't think I ever saw that.

Anyone notice anything from this Soul Calibur 3 screen shot?

Ahh, Seigfried Schtauffen! AKA Nightmare: He is pretty clearly inspired by Guts (He looks like Guts and Griffith's Bastard, Love-Child now that I think of it), Their Biographies have a few Key similarities and the Webmaster at Fightersgeneration.com notices it too: http://www.fightersgeneration.com/characters3/seigfried.html He gets one thing wrong though; I can see his voice being a good match and some of his swords do look like the Dragon Slayer, not to mention the transformation one of his hand's undergoes as Nightmare: However, his fighting style isn't nearly as acrobatic or dynamic as Guts'. Which is good, as it helps make it clear that it's a tastefully done homage rather then a blatant knock-off; I know he's my favorite character from the Soul Calibur series.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Gungrave on this topic. The first episode was a flash forward into the future where two mortal enemies used to be best friends. One was an ambitious man bent on conquering everything, the other was a bitter hero who was severely injured, one of them came from being shot in the eye. The friends had started off poor but climbed their way to the top through merciless violence until the ambitious one betrays his friend.

It can more or less be explained by the fact that Gungrave had a thread of its own in Shootin' the Breeze where it was mentioned, and also because Gungrave is a rip-off (Ok, let's say it was just strongly inspired) of the Berserk animated TV series more than it is of the manga. Plus the setting being different allows for less obvious comparisons at first glance.

I accept Soul Calibur as more of a homage than a rip off (sigfried even has an outfit resembling Griffith's armour... I can't find a pic, but apparently it was in a soul calibur artbook or something), and the new Zodd-like character just proves it even more.

Funny, all these games had Berserk homages in them, and half the people who play them will never know...

PS: I guess you could call this a homage (we made it with berserk in mind, and let everyone know): http://forums.specialistsmod.net/viewtopic.php?t=22975

I didnt make it, but i did give a bit of advice on the texture/size/shit like that, while it was being made. It's for the Half-Life 1 mod "The Specialists" and it replaces the katana.

Enjoy.

I'm not sure if anyone watches chinese fighting drama, but the newest Chinese "Return of the Condor Hero" has a sword which was almost a rip off of the DS...

Looks like Miura inspired a lot of people with his DS.

Here are some shots of the Dragon Slayer in the game Power Stone 2 on Dreamcast, by Capcom. Thanks JIN for the pictures.

No Kidding! I remember when Power Stone came out I was the only kid in Jersery basically with a Dreamcast, so I played the crap outta that game. If I knew the DS was i nthe sequel, I would have bought it back then!

Everyone saying these aren't knock-offs/parodies/homages, I can't help but notice that all these guys hold their swords in the exact same pose as Guts has in several shots. The giant swords might be a coincidence, but the same fricken pose?

If anyone could post a good shot of Guts holding the DS perpendicular to the ground with the blade extended to his side.

Don't think so.
As Aazealh says here (and I'm pretty sure I caught it once in a search), the Dragon Slayer is a bit too much of Miura's "unique" creation, and as he himself said was the quintessential element of those in the FOTS "era". Bleach, Claymore, Final Fantasy, Power Stone, Naruto, ten thousand other anime/manga/shonen titles and video games...he's had a pretty big impact in regards to influence, and imo not just aesthetic.

here's a new yugioh card from a set based on dark monsters

the monster is called Dark Crusader :guts:
020.jpg

it looks a lot like guts' berserk armor before the helmet transformed into the beast, not to mention the DS

the interesting thing is the next set of yugioh cards will be light monsters , so maybe there will be a Griffth look alike

Wow that is uncanny. That would be one hell of a coincidence if it were.
