Title: 塒巻く者 - Coiled up

I love YaBB 1 Gold!
The batman vibe is kind of overwhelming in that shot, and not really in a good way. Maybe if the lower jaw and the top were closer together, making the head look more elongated it wouldn't be as bad, but as is, it's kinda silly looking.

Kinda goofy looking, but at least now we know there is something different going on with the armor this time. Wonder if he gets the full powers in his batman form.

How so? It's just the continuation of the last shot of 271, and it's still not very different from what happened when he "woke up" in volume 27. The only notable difference this time could be how long he'll be able to stay like that before returning to "normal" (the armor deactivating), as it was relatively short in episode 229. It would be interesting if the outcome varied together with the way Schierke intervened to bring Guts back. What's worth mentioning is that the hole in the armor's chest seems to be receding.

PS: The title is pretty complicated to translate, so no need to post babelfish results. Thanks in advance to everybody.

This title can be translated in several ways thanks to the kanji "塒". "とぐろ(を)まく(塒巻く)" means "when a snake winds up in a coil" or "a threatening situation created by a few persons who get together". So I think something like "the one who waits to attack" would be proper for the title.

Did the makara actually pierce the armor with their teeth or did they just squeeze him to the point where old wounds may have reopened?

It pierced the armor, you can clearly see it (and apparently from both the front and the back).

Gotta go back and reread the episode now.

Anyway, a question on the shape of the armor. Do you think that this might be a medium or grey area here. I mean we've got Guts, as Guts, fighting like he's done in the past. Then we have Guts, as the beast, fighting with hightened abilities and what not. Do you think this could be Guts tapping into the power of the armor without losing himself to his inner beast?

Guts way back when he was fighting the crocs on the beach mentioned something along the lines of drawing out only a small portion of the armors power to stop from feeling the pain of his injuries. So what if this is him drawing out a lot of the power, without losing himself to his berserker side? I mean he did hold up that massive burning mast.

I think so, yes. Like I said, it looks similar to what happened in episode 229 to me: he's himself but still strongly under the effects of the armor (he flung the DS like if it was a knife last time).

To be exact he said the effect (the pain subsiding) wasn't as strong as when he fights. And that was when they had just reached the sea (episode 236), before they fought the familiars.

I don't mind the armor in that shot, actually. it is screaming "super hero" a bit too loudly, but I don't mind that much. I wouldn't want it to be a permanent thing, but s'ok

Yeah, I don't think it looks out of sorts either, at least no more than it's intended to given the circumstances. I don't think it's supposed to be streamlined awesomeness, just awkwardly interesting.

I think you're just looking at it wrong. :carcus:

If you still look at it as the beast's complete head it looks gross, but seperate the helmet portion from the "beast jaw" in your mind's eye, like when he's not wearing the helmet at all and it's just a part of the body armor, and it's fine.

It's like looking at a cloud. =)

P.S. As for Guts being halfway between man and beast right now, I'd like to see it, but wouldn't count on it. But, if he had spoken in the "monster font" (ala Skull Knight, God Hand, etc.) in the last episode it would have been awesome. :zodd:

From the angle of the preview it does look like the hole has gotten smaller.  There doesn't appear to be as much blood flowing out of it, either.  Could just be the picture, but if not then it appears the armor does in fact have the ability to repair itself.

Anyway, I agree with "Griffith no More!" that if you look at the helmet as if it's supposed to be one piece, you're definitely going to weird yourself out.  It doesn't look any more goofy than it did at the end of episode 271, and even then it didn't look all that unusual.  I'm excited to see what Guts is capable of now that he appears to have a greater amount of control over the armor.

Yeah, that wouldn't come off as much of a surprise though, since the armor's shown strange properties before (sort of transforming on its own, covering Guts or retracting itself, piercing the user's body to support his bones, etc).

Pretty cool episode I must say. Looks like Schierke has to keep Guts' eye clear, otherwise he reverts to a mindless state, so the balance is delicate (he's not completely freed from the armor's influence, unlike in volume 27, that's probably why he can stay longer in this state). The combined attack from the group is awesome, and some people might be surprised seeing who actually managed to hit Daiba. He's not resourceless though, and Guts & co may have trouble dealing with his new spell (what this episode's title is referring to). Oh and, there are people on the ship. :void:

Well, that's an interesting situation for Guts... BTW, page 5 is my favorite by far. :guts:

Wow. Looks like an awesome episode. Thanks Aaz!  :guts: Can't wait for a translation and, hopefully, better quality scans.

Seems as though Schierke being inside Guts' armor is really paying off. I wonder if from now on she will be able to go in and out at will...

Also... Loving the teamwork!  :serpico:

Aaz, you kick so much ass for doing this.  :guts:

I'm reading it page by page at the moment and it's badass. Having Daiba refer to Guts and Serpico as the mad god's warrior & wind god's warrior (respectively). And seeing Isidro interupt Daiba like that on page 14. :isidro:

Thanks a million for cheering me up on an other wise crappy day.

Thanks for the episode Aazealh! I was going crazy when Isidro got that hit in on Daiba, leaving both my roommates baffled. Probably gonna get another noise complaint from our neighbors, but it was worth it! Can't wait for the translation, seeing as all I can really read and understand are the names in katakana. I knew I took that year of Japanese for a reason. :beast:

I also wonder if she'll ever do it again (or start doing it regularly from now on?), but I don't think this is a real solution to the problem. As we can see in the episode, she's merely keeping him aware of the armor's influence instead of completely freeing him from its grasp (like what happened on the beach for example, after the Moonlight Child dissipated the darkness surrounding him, Schierke literally pulled him out of the "dark water" through Flora's talisman). Any error on her part could prove fatal in this state, and she might also be endangered by the process.

The most interesting part about this seems to be the dark fluid covering Guts' body both in the astral and real world, we've seen it before but this time it could give us a hint as to how the armor works and how it relates to its Od. There's also the question of whether she can release him (fully) from the armor or not while being inside of it herself.

Yeah, I think Farnese is defiantly going to stay at the city, having seen all of those monsters. :schierke:

On a related note, I by the time I noticed 261 was fake, and I could laugh at it, etc, those EvilIdiots had noticed their mistake, and I was unable to DL their scantrans that they had previously foolishly posted. If anyone has the fake scantrans so I could laugh....

1. I would have been more supprised if Roderick would have hit him :beast: .... or Magnifico, but we know that one's not going to happen anytime soon.
2. Nice to see them all tag team vs one opponent, haven't seen that kind of fight in some time if I remember correctly (sorry, not checking now). The guts vs. single opponent is cool, but it does get overused a bit.... also: Guts really has quite a good Party/Group/Family going, so much so that he's even letting Social characters like Magnifico and characters with specialised non-combat skills like Roderick in! (think RPG references, especially pencil and paper ones)
3. New spell? It looks like he summoned a giant apple... :troll:

Darn, I have more to say, but I got to sleep, hopefully before the that giant fireball in the sky rises. Night!

So sorry for being surprised :serpico:. I can't believe he was the one to bring Daiba down and force his hand. Awesome teamwork.

Luncheable!
I think I prefer the skull-helm look to Batman, but it's all good. Guttsu can't be treading on SK's toes (er, claws?) too much!

Thanks a lot, Aaz!

Cool episode -- nice to see the Daiba getting a slight beating.. but his new spell looks troublesome. Looking forward for the translations to help clear some things up.

Something I noticed at the end.  When Daiba is casting his spell, he says "Ohn Amiriti Uhn Patta Khundarihni" .  I'm not an expert on such things, but the first part (Ohn Amiriti Uhn Patta) was eerily similiar to the chanting done by Abe no Seimei from the movies Omyoji and Omyoji 2.   Maybe it's just me, and it probably has absolutely nothing to do this episode at all or Kushan magic.

I'll also venture a guess and say that "Khundarihni" is actually the name of the beast in the Kushan language.  And the beast is the reason he was able to cast his 'spells' so quickly.  So the last spell wasn't so much a 'spell' as it was a 'summoning' .

-Edit- Aw crap, it says the beasts name right there at the end. Oh well. The japanese name of the beast is 塒神, so something like "snake god" (using Puella's translation of that kanji) ??

Hmmm nice episode :guts:
"Reading" it made me smile because I remembered a discussion with Aaz last month...anyway now we(I)know Daiba's power a little more accurately and more than anything we saw the party(at least a part of it)act as a team against a strong foe and I really enjoyed it.
About Guts's look and all I found the debate about the "bat-looking" a little bit funny(thanks to Griffith No More especially)and IMO we can't really say that his relationship with the armor has changed since it's only thank to Schierke if he is like he is now...and I wonder what's the dark "thing" on his body, it's really weird 'cause we can see it even in the real world I'd bet it is the Od of the beast but I dunno if it can materialize and even less in the real world...
Anyway it is a very cool episode thanks Aaz(and I can't wait for the translation)
