Frank Miller's 300

"Frank Miller's adventure series 300 is a riveting story of one of the most under-reported and glorious battles of the Persian-Greco war. While Miller has taken substantial creative liberties in reporting the details of his version of the Spartan King Leonidas and his army of 300 valiant soldiers, the events he describes are remarkably accurate."

Im just crazy about ancient battles and i've gotta get my hands on this!
It's about one of the greatest battles of all-time, Thermopylae.. Do a research on Wikipidea if you want to know more about this battle, were 300 spartans tried to stop 2 million persian soldiers..

This sounds really cool. I'm a huge FM fan and I actually can't believe I haven't read this before. I have lots of his old Dark Knight comics + Sin City. SO yea this looks interesting.

It's one of his "recent" works (1998), if you're a fan of Sin City then I recommend it yeah.

Just so you guys know this is not an accurate retelling of the actual Battle of the Hot Gates, but rather Frank Miller's super stylized version of it and often portrays the myth surrounding the battle and nto the actual battle so dont expect a very accurate version here, just one full of lots of ass kicking and awesomeness.

Also this movie is similiar to Sin City in that its all digitally done, little to no props, all blue screen, no sets, etc. Its directed by Zach Snyder, the guy who directed the Dawn of the Dead remake and is slated to direct the Watchmen movie.

It was shown off at comic con and there have been some early reviews of test screenings, and its been nothing but incredibly positive, then again comic con is full of comic book nerds who love some works without care and hate others without logic so who know's, but it is known that they showed the preview clip like 3 times it was so in demand.

It's a good thing you point it out but I'm having trouble imagining that anyone having read the book could believe it to be an accurate retelling.

No video floating on the net by chance? I found a couple on youtube but they were removed. There are still some "video diaries" up though:

- well I dont think most people seeing this movie will have read the book as its probably less known than Sin City was at the time of its movies annoucement.

- I dont think anyone ever tapped it despite it being shown three times like usually happens. It was basically the clips of King Leonidas growing up with him fighting other children, killing the wolf, and then scenes from the actual battles which included stuff that wasnt in the graphic novel such as armored rhinoes and such.

Sounds flippin sweet to me. I like that director, the remake was one of the better Zombie movies out there and a worthy remake, but the original still towers overall. So yea this should be cool. When is it scheduled to be released. And BTW was this battle mentioned in Sin City as well. I'm not sure but I remember when Dwight was in the alleyway and an army of bad guys were coming for him he recapped this story about ancient warriors being outnumbered. I could be way off but it's something like that.

Much thanks for that, too bad that dumbass was standing up. But yea March 9 i heard was the release date but who knows.

I've read that the movie has sequence of 3-5m where King Leonidas kills 12 guys, the interesting part of this is that this sequence is filmed with only one camera and that there's a point when the angle is like the hallway scene in Old Boy..
Cool :guts:

That was pretty much the coolest shot ever

Brand new promo trailer that's really long, and crammed full of all kinds of awesome.

I gotta admit, the more I see, the more I'm liking this. I was hesitant at first, and still have some (who is the gigantic fat dude with blades for example), but its slowly growing on me.

Well, I never read the original, so maybe I just don't get it, but I don't see what looks so promising about this?

I've read it, and to be perfectly honest, the art was awesome but I was never that impressed with the story, characters... really anything about the narrative of 300. It always washed over me every time I read it, like Miller was trying too hard. Of course, he wrote 300 just prior to his awe-sum Dark Knight STRIKES BACK mini-series so... he was a little off his rocker at that point.

After watching the trailer, like the comic, this looks over-dramatic. I hope it does well, because this looks to have a really high budget, and I want Miller to have good street cred so he can write a screenplay for Dark Knight Returns :guts:

There are quite a few "this is our last stand"-speeches just in the trailer alone...

I've only seen bits and pieces of the original graphic novel and the art style is indeed good looking. Don't really see that carrying over to the screen too well.

I'll still probably see it, though

Yeah, it kind of looked (the whole CGI feel) and especially sounded cheezy, "FREEDOM!" Yeah, right. And the "Then we'll fight in the shade" line made me cringe. =)

I mean, I saw what looked like a few neat monsterous warriors in there and some impressive visuals, but otherwise they seemed out of place in what looks more like another bad sword and sandal flick.

the monsters are something not in the original graphic novel, there was a hunch back, but the giant fat guy with blades and so on, is new to me.

Aside from that Im kind of digging it, I like the stylized look and am impressed the managed to make it look decent as it is (thought it was gonna look terrible).

That shot where the kid speared the wolf looked like crap.

Actually thats the only line I kinda liked. The "we're defending freedom" bit was a bit strange considering the whole first half of the trailer was dedicated to showing how these guys we're raised from birth to be soldiers/warriors.

"This is madness!!"

"Madness? This is SPARTA!"

:schierke: -"this is dumb!"

Yeah, the whole "RA! RA! GO SPAR-TA!" stuff was kinda gay, no pun intended.

I guess I'm supposed to get excited because these guys are so INTENSZE!!!
