Adventures in YouTube

Not very funny, or technically on youtube, but thought this video was spot on, and figured I'd spread the word:

Or, you could just play games on PC with the rest of the adults :guts: Honestly I can count on my hand the number of times I've encountered loud, hateful bigots in multiplayer PC games. The problem 360 faces is that it's the go-to platform for teenage idiots. And sure, that kind of stuff should be more tightly regulated. But the fundamental problem -- the audience, isn't going to go away.

I love Extra Credits!

It's hard to say what makes a good online community. Path of Exile, the Escapist, and Kotaku generally have pleasant communities. The Diablo 3 forums and Youtube have a lot of annoying people who say endlessly repetitive things. And then there's Yahoo...to publish and celebrate the worst bile vomited from the most awful fucking wastes of functioning organs to have ever walked this Earth.

I think part of it has to do with the size of the communities. Small communities have a better sense of camaraderie and regulators can quickly respond to or erase the garbage that comes their way. Large communities seem doomed to become a heaping pile of memes or bigotry.

I like these proposals, though. Assuming the vast majority of Xbox 360 users aren't racist or sexist, these ideas could go a long way. The only one I would change is the low response ratio; just because someone doesn't respond to a message doesn't mean that they didn't like it. Instead, the receiver should have the option to tag a message as offensive and have privileges revoked based on their tagging ratio.

Oh boy, another video of that annoying sped-up voice talking about something everybody who plays games has already discussed to death and probably reached a conclusion on. I find them extremely pretentious and annoying. On the contents of that video, what ever happened to having thick skin online and ignoring people? It's not that hard to block somebody through XBL is it? Whenever playing TF2 or L4D or whatever MMO on PC and somebody is acting like an ass to me or to others around me I either mute them, ignore them, or fuck with them to the point where they get bored and stop/leave. The whole thing with kids acting like idiots online is pretty bad, but not in the hands of the developers to regulate outside of banning crazy harassers.

Also, this. Even when people were fucking around in some of the online games I've played, it's usually not bad or it's being done in an ironic(yet still a bit annoying) way.

I welcome a video game designer consulting with a variety of experts to talk about video games as an art form and the future of the industry.

And exactly how is this discussed to death?:

The XBL problem has been frequently discussed but not even remotely close to resolved by any stretch of the imagination. I welcome some of the proposals that go beyond 'suck it up'. No one wants people shitting in their mailboxes and headphones. You also didn't explain why auto-muting someone who repeatedly threatens to rape people was a bad idea. These trolls are rampant and the current rule set you seem happy with is clearly not enough; XBL still has an awful reputation.

They're a fun group, wish I could see them play live. That's kinda like techno porno grind and their visuals are amazing.
