Hi there, welcome to SK.net

Thats a pretty cool sword! Its strange how at the tip one edge is larger than the other. It be a pretty close replica to Guts' sword otherwise. But other than that its kewl. I dig it.

Hey, welcome to SK.net de99ial!

I took the liberty to rename your thread so the title would be informative. Anyway that's a nice replica these guys have there. In this picture it looks like the left side of the tip is off though.

They sell but not this one - they did it only for themselves but You could ask them.

Yes it look rather crude but You know - with this sword You can cut the trees :guts: So it is still impressive (i know it because i talk with them).

Sword wages 8 kilos and have 1,8 m

They great!

Aazealh - thank You for changing the name of topic.

Evil is born when we lose power over ourselves.
That rocks so hard . . . The only real critique I have is that maybe the handle should be a little smaller in size, I like how it looks rustic and kind of roughly done too. You mentioned that it can cut down trees; so I have a couple of questions. do you have any information what processes were used to forge it? Do you know the people who forged or were you involved in making it?
Thanks again for showing this to us.

de99ial

de99ial
Well no - i was not involve in making this sword. Also i don't know the details of the forging sword, but if You want to You could ask them (email: kuzniarycerska@wp.pl ). I know all these things because i talk with them trough GG (somelike ICQ). All things done by them are for real fight - not pretend.

About handle - well i think it is because Gutts is no real and a real person need solid grasp, so it could swing without a problem.

mmmm swords...
And this is a neat one, thanx for sharing the info.

Btw did they actually cut the tree with it to test it?
I just wondered... Even imagining that is fun! :isidro:

de99ial

de99ial
Well. Yes it could kill if used on human or other living creature. And yes they cut trees to test it. They test all of they products and as i said they make it for real fight.

I'm surprised it weighs that little! Admittedly, I'm not good at judging how much stuff is gonna weigh, but still... 8 kilos for that monster is pretty cool. Might have to get in touch with my local forge...

de99ial

de99ial
Well... Its rather complicated. You see 8 kilos is not much if you can take it in a bag or something. But if you take a 2 meters iron stab weights 8 kilos its not so easy...

However 8 kilos is not much for that sword and a grown male can use it (both hand) easily. Problems starts when you try it one hand... :guts:

Ah, but I'm more than used to swinging that sort of weight one handed. I think the main problem would be accustomising yourself to balancing the sword properly - your wrist would tire from the constant tension pretty fast.

de99ial

de99ial
Agree with that - to use one hand is very hard and need a lot of practise to do good.

Anyway - great that someone did that replica!

You know... I'm a little skeptical. I'm not saying you're lying, but 8kg seems very little for something that size! I was looking at some of the weights I have lying around, and noticed that they supposedly weigh as much as the sword... yet occupy a little less space than the average A4 printer. Basically... are you sure it was 8kg? It seems a bit odd, that's all.

8kg seems reasonable to me. Comparing a sword to a printer, eh?

Well.... i know You don't know my language but here is quotation from website:

"Miecz Gattsa z "Berserk'a"

masa okolo 8 kg
długość 180 cm"

You could check it on website: http://www.kuzniarycerska.prv.pl/

Click on "Nasze Wyroby" in menu on the left side and search "Anime" in list.

I hate to argue. but at 8k, a grown man could not easily properly wield it. Large swords, for large 6'4ft 240lb+ guys are in the 7 pound range. There is a major myth going around that historical sweords were 20-40 pounds, which simply is not true. Decoration swords, yes. Functional, not so much. The thing is, can you raise it? Yes. Can you swing it with momentum? yes. But "swinging" a sword is not a proper cut, and will not cut straight, nor proper.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't wanna be hit with a 8k piece of sharp steel, momentum swing, or not. It would hurt, and likely kill the person. But to use anything of that size, properly, for more than a few minutes, especially when having to defend with it, and face being blocked, it will take it out of you like lightning.

If you don't believe me, find a light barbell, one of those 15 pound deals, and swing it around. Now add in proper cutting instead of swinging it. Now, hit it against a tree to similate the impact stress of combat. It becomes a different story very quickly. Oh, and yes, I have done proper cutting, I have been taught how to cut by traditional instructors. I do in fact have heavy european replica blades. I'm not just one of those guys that says he's an "expert "based on swinging a stick around and thinking that since I can bench this, or move something hundreds of pounds that I know what I'm talking about.(not picking on anyone here) Trust me, even with 4-5 pound blades, it's easy for most people to lose their balance.

Some people who swing heavy sledge hammers all day, or practice with the indian clubs might think swinging a sword is easy. Swinging it is. Actually cutting is another matter altogether. But don't believe me.

I think if a person practices enough they can do it, I have a blade that weighs around 20 lbs it is about 4ft long that I use for cutting, but I will admit it took a while to get used to since I was used to cutting with chinese Jian blades and a katana.

I agree - swinging and fighting are diffrent stuff. I know few knights brotherhoods and i Had a occasion to fight and swing different weapons - from one hand swords, bastards, rapiers, sabres, axes to classic zweihanders.

My answer was to Bastard Swordsman who was surprised 8 kg weight.
