Review from advanced screenings of next months "IT" release are VERY positive. Stephen King's IT is probably my favorite novel of all time, and while the 1990s mini series was a horrible adaption of the work, it was a fun and creepy attempt of turning a R rated novel into a PG13 tv experience.

Not sure if there are any other IT fans on these boards, but for the first time I might not be too disappointed in a book to movie adaptation.

Well I guess the message is clear. Don't join in on this particular discussion unless you want to be judged by the peanut gallery. Stay safe everyone its not worth the risk. :casca:

This looks low budget but the trailer managed to make me laugh courtesy of Arnold. Trailer for KILLING GUNTHER - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2wAXWY6k-g

This I'm insanely stoked for. I fucking love Miike (Ichi the Killer is one of my favorite movies) and I grew up on Blade of the Immortal. I used to buy the single issue comics when I was like, 12 years old. I couldn't have asked for more with this hah.

I got into this manga pretty recently. Always thought it was just some brainless ultraviolent thing, but it's actually well written, and the art is great. Can't say I like how these Miike cosplay movies end up looking so I usually avoid them, but I'll have to check this one out.

Well well, look who's back...

http://variety.com/2017/film/news/j-j-abrams-star-wars-episode-ix-director-colin-trevorrow-1202548094/

Seems a good, if obvious, trade since Trevorrow's Lucas/Spielberg impression is really just a worse version of Abrams' and it actually gives this trilogy a symmetry like the original (hopefully not TOO much like the original though, amirite!? :troll:). Anyway, as lazy of an out as this seems I can't really think of a better choice. Rian Johnson could change my mind of course, or fuck up Luke Skywalker. Other than that I guess it would have been nice to finally fulfill the prophecy of Spielberg directing one of these things, but I think he pinky swore with George to never do that, or it's some ego thing of his own ("I'm bigger than George's one movie"). Plus, he hasn't been in his prime for a while now anyway. It'd be like getting Michael Jordan on your team but from the Wizards. Probably better to take the current All-Star than watch Spielberg make his own version of the prequel debacle instead of adding the fun or pathos you might expect.

I wish it was Brad Bird, but Abrams is fine.

Hey, The Leftovers is finished, so Damon Lindelof is free, right? How about a "dream team" tag team of Lindelof/Abrams? :ganishka:

Ah ha, it was Bird who said Trevorrow reminded him of himself (couldn't recall)! That would have been funny.

Finally a Star Wars movie for Nightcrawler! :troll: It would also help that Lindelof would "logically" remove all pre-established connections to Star Wars and replace them with generic offshoots based on them, "What if we made the Wookies little and the Ewoks huge and called them Eikoows amd Kowes!? BRILLIANT!!"

Or better yet, speaking of would-be Star Wars directors, how about George Lucas' original choice for the third part of the trilogy:

I enjoyed Ex Machina, so I'm going to put the writer + director's next movie in here - Annihilation - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufaDurSCKOk

Kenneth Branagh's next one is an adaptation of Agatha Christie's novel Murder On The Orient Express ... plus that cast - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mq4m3yAoW8E

The Lobster sparked a few conversations/ debates among my friends and it was a good watch overall ... the director's next one looks promising called The Killing Of A Sacred Deer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQFdGfwChtw

The best trailers and the movies I'm most looking for:

Suspiria - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uGIEY7tdg8

Agreed. Pals I often watch horror with aren't keen because it's a remake.

Halloween (2018) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_-x4Dwz-rU

*sigh*

I'm on a Carpenter kick at the moment (music currently, but films always), so I couldn't help but get sucked in and look forward to his debut as strictly a composer. Anyway, Carpenter liked the pitch, is directly involved producing and composing, and although it pains me a bit that they're eliminating what was previously the best sequel in the series, and a cool sequel period, in Halloween II, I understand why they took it back to the creepy magic of the original and eliminated the weird familial relationship, plus the complication of Michael having his eyes shot out and then burning/exploding (he recovered =). Early reviews are pretty positive and claim it gets what made Halloween great, but I guess we'll see. I'm expecting a good if uneven time as a fan, but not a classic revival on par with the original of course (more an alternate take on Halloween II, which is still hard to beat in my eyes since it returns all the principals and takes place the same night, so the polar opposite of this concept), and I'm really looking forward to the aforementioned soundtrack.

Bate-Man does it again (is he basically going to replace Daniel Day‑Lewis?) and everyone else just kinda works for their parts too, especially Rockwell's version of W, though he's pretty heavy on the aww shucks shit. Still, looks like the Cheneys are definitely the stars here so the rest just need to memorably embody their parts.

I wonder how these performances will compare to their counterparts in W.

Dreyfus is effective, but he's playing more the idea of Cheney like an SNL skit. Scott Glenn is just being himself, Thandie Newton is great as Condi Rice, but man Jeffrey Wright seems painfully too young there for Colin Powell, though (he sounds like someone imitating their dad or something). I'll let you discover who's playing him in this one. =)

Yeah I saw the trailer a few days ago and was really impressed by Bate-man. I saw it first without sound (Twitter feed) and wondered who the fuck this Costanza-looking guy was. Then I heard the voice and knew -- no way! :isidro:

My wife asked half way through where Christian Bale was and who he'd be playing. :ganishka: Also, you just made me realize it IS the Bateman voice. Old, more genuinely confident, no less sociopathic, Bateman. I bet Cheney's business cards are impeccable. =)

It's the mannerisms that are impressive. He's shrunken down Bale and blown up this old man.

As for Bateman, now I can't unsee it. After all, Patrick was a VP (so was everybody else in that company). "Well George ... I'm a vice president of a large company. Im into Murders and Executions." :ganishka:

He had the fucking shape of the eyes right when he smiled, and even does the trademark facial snarl when Rumsfeld asks if he's even more ruthless. BTW, Steve Carrel's Rumsfeld might seem the weakest resemblance at first, but a lot of his shots are the young Rumsfeld we're not accustomed to. There's one shot in the first montage that really conveys the essence of the man we knew from the early 2000's. It's strange to look back at these old, semi-competent war criminals fondly. The inevitable Trump movies might be the first case where a President plays himself in his own biopic.

True story, Christian Bale was so dedicated in his preparation for the role that he really worked at a fortune 500 company in the 80s and surreptitiously murdered several co-workers, hobos and prostitutes. Get a goddamned job... Al.

High hopes.

By the way, a trailer for the Pet Semetary remake came out and ... it looks pretty decent to actually surprisingly good (so far) ... am I being too optimistic? I don't like the idea of remakes but then came along Blade Runner (which I liked a lot) and more recent - upcoming Suspiria and this ... they look promising - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MHwxRnPg6M

I doubt it'll top the original film because (i) nostalgia; and (ii) creepy as hell atmosphere that's sort of iconic in its own way. But ...
