Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

Anybody interested in picking this up? Looks incredible, and I've always been a sucker for the treasure hunting genre.

Seems like a breath of fresh air after so many poor Tomb Raider games with Lara Croft.

Naughty Dog's got a fantastic track record.

It looks alright, but I'm still not really sold on the hype this thing has been getting.

Not to mention its competing for my money with CoD 4, Assassin's Creed, and Mass Effect (which are all coming out around the same time). Right now it isn't really making a good enough case.

Well, I can't say I'm looking forward to it since I don't have a PS3 at the moment and won't have one when the game will come out, but I think it's looking promising so far. I also enjoy exploration games and this title looks like a fine specimen. Be sure to report on how you like when you pick it up, OS. :guts:

I'll be sure to let you know how it is. While it's true that Assassin's Creed is more compelling, I'm a sucker for any Indiana Jones style adventure I can get my hands on.

Between "Eye of Judgment," "Creed," "COD4," "Uncharted," and "Ratchet & Clank," I'm going to be forced to make some tough decisions myself. Can't say I blame CNC for being so selective.

Sadly, I don't think we'll see PS3 "Greatest Hits" bargains anytime soon, otherwise I'd get them all!

A little off topic, but since you're into adventures games, have you looked into Zack & Wiki (Wii game by Capcom)? It's very cartoony/humorous as opposed to the realistic/serious feel of Uncharted, but it looks like it could be pretty fun.

I was excited for Drake's Fortune, but I'm gonna wait awhile after it's release and see how it does. IDK guys, I regret buying PS3. That's just me tho.

"Dance with an angel, mom" indeed.

Looks like a bad God of War, at the moment. haven't played the demo tho.

What I've seen recently has worried me about Drake's quality. I'll wait for reviews, as well.

As for the PS3, I think it's a tad early to count it out just yet. They just need enough quality games, and what's coming out this holiday could make for a solid first year of the Ps3's existence. They need to get their ducks in order in regards to online, but as a system they just need the games.
However this is the 360's holiday season it seems as far as games are concerned.

That sounds like a gross generalization based on the videos Ive seen of the game. There's certainly more to the game than hack and slash.

I really don't think it is a gross generalization at all, really. Here some of the vids I've seen:

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/25071.html
---V/O by a similar voice to GoW, you get magic powers (really? Conan? magic?) in a similar fashion to GoW. Also the cinematic style is familiar.

---Here's a pro-tip: Press X a lot. It seems to win the game for you. Also note the similar red/green orb collecting mechanic, door opening mechanic and life/magic bar.

There are more. But I'm not seeing the substance you alluded to. It seems this game's saving grace is a decent voice acting job done by Ron Perlman. Mind you I liked GoW, so a game attempting to clone it is kinda a good thing. But I'm seeing anything here that begs for my 60 bucks.

Well, first of all, the game's an MMO, so it's not "just" an action game per se like God of War. It's a full world to explore. There's also an RTS element built in for larger army battles (click here for a cinematic example , though this one doesn't convey the "commander" role that oversees the battle). That being said, I could care less about this single-player campaign. It's being touted as a glorified tutorial on the basic gameplay mechanics to ease the player into the MMO world, which has PvP etc.

Yeah, I was as miffed as Conan was that he's using magic. But, they had to have Conan experience all elements of the game, to show them to the players early. A crappy decision in my opinion, but again, I won't be judging this game on the single-player performance.

Here's a pro-tip: Press X a lot. It seems to win the game for you. Also note the similar red/green orb collecting mechanic, door opening mechanic and life/magic bar.
That's really not how the controls work. It involves movement and timing to execute those combos. A tutorial on the controls was shown at E3 last year. Here's another: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dp2kXoga5UA that shows just why it's not "whack a mole" with the x button.

Ah. I see. We're speaking of two different games:

TWO Conan games? Well, then I concede. That first one looks like shit :carcus: Also, Age of Conan will also be for X360, so you console gamers aren't just stuck with this action game.

A new single-player action game featuring the legendary barbarian from Robert E. Howard's fantasy stories (not the Arnold Schwarzenegger films).
No, not that Conan! :ganishka:

Anyway, to be back on topic, I think I saw this Drake's Fortune movie before... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0327850/

Well the PC one will undoubtedly look if not play better.

Got Uncharted. I had a decently long play session last night, and it's a fantastic game. Lots of action and excitement - it's definitely all about delivering an interactive Hollywood experience as opposed to throwing mind-numbing puzzles and impossible jumps at you around every corner. Graphics are stellar.

Ironically, the reviews seem to be faring much better for Uncharted as opposed to Assassin's Creed, which was the title most people were looking forward to. Creed's gotten a mixed bag of reviews ranging from "great" to "mind-numbingly repetetive." I haven't gotten Creed yet, but I might wait until the price drops.

I think there's a bit too much jumping the gun on that. For one, with some odd 10+ more reviews, Creed isn't fairing "worse" than Uncharted, and the reviews are stemming from superb (9.0/9.5) to mediocre/average (6/7), and with a majority falling in the "great" 8 range (much like uncharted). Its basically gotten every score in the book from the 6-10 range, which if anything shows it doesn't sway one way or the other, and if anything, the mixed bag would imply that this is a very "perspective"-based average, so I wouldn't exactly say you should let the reviews judge for you at this point versus your own experience with both.

As for Uncharted, someone in my family is supposedly sending me a PS3 for the holidays, depends if that holds water or not.

Thats not really ironic, as Uncharted was highly anticipated (It's pretty much become the poster boy for the PS3 this season). Besides, there's only a 4% difference between them on metacritic. I'll probably rent Uncharted, it doesn't look like it has any replay value for me.

Thats unfortunate, since indications point to it being a good game. I guess it's being limited by it's hardware. :judo:

It doesn't sound like the kind of title that will fly off the shelves near launch date. This one will take time. It looks pretty good though, I'll admit.

I've been meaning to rent it and try it out. In the genre though it might be tough to last over time, I believe the next Tomb Raider was just announced:

It's sad when teh boobies>good story in a game.
