Teaser released: http://www.eidosmontreal.com/en/games.html

Well, the teaser doesn't tell us anything but at least it's finally officially confirmed. Let's hope that they've learned their lesson from the horror that was Invisible Wars. The first Deus Ex was awesome so if we're (very) lucky this one could be too.

Apparently Spector (System Shock, Thief) isn't involved with this. He was chiefly responsible for how good Deus Ex 1 was. But, he was also the designer for DE2, which sucked. I'm guessing this one will suck as well.

Yep, so I'm not too sad about his non-involvement to be honest. There are other talented developers/producers out there.

I'm hopeful for this project. Thanks for the news AZ.

Having never played DE2, I can safely say more Deus Ex is always a good thing.

Cool interview, thanks Aaz, though I must admit I'm yet to read a pre-dev interview that didn't make all the right noises, here's to hoping they deliver!

I registered on the game's official forum to correct some of the idiots there :carcus: But so far they haven't approved my registration. I guess Im finally getting a taste of my own medicine :ganishka:

What attracts me to the new teaser is they're playing the original music. It could mean they want to stay more loyal to the first game, it could also mean they haven't made any new appropriate music. Still it's a bit cheesy, the cliche narrative voice and the dodgy Da Vinci code feel to it...

That may be so but needless to say he still was the brains behind the first game, and several other good games, it seems he just lost his way. Deus Ex was the only game I ran through 5 times trying every option possible to get the most out of it. Most I don't run through twice, it's still probably my all time favourite.

Unfortunately I don't feel optimistic about 3 achieving any particular awesomeness, whatever he may be now Spector was the main reason the first was awesome. I thought the story was still good in Deus Ex 2, I think they still used the same writer. Still anything's possible... have the new team even developed any games of any real significance?

BTW here's one excited fan:

Well it's true Spector did a lot, but he wasn't the only one working on it either. And like I said, there are plenty of other talented people around. Since I'm also a big fan of DX, I'd rather be optimistic about it. =)

You'll find information on the team in the interviews that were posted. Anyway, you know, Spector worked on System Shock but not on System Shock 2, nor on BioShock. Did they suck?

Wow, indeed... Not only is his video useless (brings nothing new to the table), but his last line has a wonderful taste of gratuitous and zealotical insult to it.

New details emerged this week on the game: http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3170363

For starters, the game is indeed a prequel that takes place in 2027, as was theorized back in December of last year, which sets the game 25 years before the original Deus Ex. Players are put in control of Adam Jensen, a private security officer at a lab that manufactures the biochemical augmentations that have been integral to the series' gameplay.
...
Interestingly, it seems Eidos Montreal also went out of their way to assure fans they are aware of the less-than-positive reaction the second game in the series received, and are working diligently to avoid some of the same mistakes.
Not too excited about the prequel-ness, but as long as its even close to how awesome the first game was, I'm sold.

Hmm, yeah making a prequel theorically means less advanced technology... But whatever, I want to believe. :guts:

Thanks for posting it. Seems cool enough so far. Of course, it only shows CG, and this franchise is really known for its game design. So, there's still a lot to prove in order to solidify my interest.

Too early to tell if it will be worth anything this time around. I really think they should have held off until a little before release. Putting out a teaser for the E3 showing isn't promising though.

I like that character design, very nice looking. Manly and stylish. Not a big fan of the huge blade coming out of his arm, kinda ruined the atmosphere of the rest of the trailer. It suddenly became too "AWSUM!!1".

That doesn't mean anything anymore. They're a publisher of games, the same as EA and others.

It just felt awkward to me that this enhanced superhuman of the future's weapon of choice is essentially the same as Altaïr's, a character from 1191 AD. Not a huge fan of the prosthetic arms either, but we'll see how that plays out.

It's just because they bought Eidos.

Anyway, some more information about the game: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/107/1077019p1.html

New trailer has been out for a few days now. I think it looks awesome, but am merely cautiously optimistic since we still haven't seen any gameplay footage.
