Start with I Am The Night and then Dangerous Days. If you like that style, you'll dig Dan Terminus who put out a standout release last year.

Nice, good luck! Huge fan of this artist and my favorite album from em is Seishinbyouin. Cryo Chamber's an amazing label, I own everything they've put out but it's hard to keep up.

I'm a huge fan of ambient music, especially dark ambient, so I'm really digging this Atrium Carceri album. It's very easy to zone out to it.

I'll check out that album you recommended by them and those other albums as well. Thanks a lot for the recommendations!

How is that Doom OST?  I platinumed ds3 and was watching my wife finish uncharted 4.  Wanted to get that next, but we're moving on up and all my stuff is almost packed now.   :puck:

I've always had a fix of variety, even have every Berserk ost I know of in my ipod playlist.  Right now I'm on a Breaking Benjamin, NiN, and old school gaming kick as far as music goes.  Castlevania bloodlines has been prevalent on my morning jog.

I hear yuh on the dlc.  I rushed that sucker in about a month and just played online co op for bit after.  Souls music never really had me totally engaged, besides the hub areas I suppose.  This latest had the most memorable overall.

The OST was nice. But I prefer the one made by Aubrey Hodges for the PSX version.

The intro to PSX version is especially memorable. Unmatched to this day!

Clearly !
This is the first version of DOOM I owned (the best version IMO), so it hold a special place in my heart.
I bought the whole OST from his bandcamp many months ago and I really enjoy it. This guy is very talented.

The soundtrack of the first Quake is so good too; Trent Reznor did a great job back in the days.

How is it?  Only heard one single and it peaked my interest.  If you've gotten your hands on this bad boy, I'm curious where you would rank it within the years of Metallica.  The years having highs and lows all over the map.

I think for sure is better than st. Anger and death magnetic. Could be on par with load and reload for me. Have to listen to it more to make a concrete decision.

St. Anger was bottom of the barrel for me.  Death magnetic was as forgettable as re load and I was too young to probably view load as the same.  I think I'm expecting too much today from their early days.

BTW, the whole album, plus bonus track, is included on that youtube playlist.

How is it?  Only heard one single and it peaked my interest.  If you've gotten your hands on this bad boy, I'm curious where you would rank it within the years of Metallica.  The years having highs and lows all over the map.

Well, it kind of is all over the map of their careers, like a microcosm; you'll hear traits from every one of their previous albums, and that's not a bad thing (fortunately, they relegated the St. Anger section to a few bars of muddy lead guitar on Spit Out the Bone =). It's very much an amalgamation of their various styles that actually works, like they used every arrow in their quiver. I mean, Spit Out The Bone is like a one track Metallica sampler in itself.

The two discs almost make sense too, the first one is more uptempo and high energy, the second more moody and brooding, but apart from the 3 singles and the final track the rest of the album has a has very Black/Load vibe overall, though in that vein it's also pretty catchy and slick. It actually fulfills a few things I'd been wanting, like actually using some of the different chops they showed on the Loads without it totally dominating the sound (only one song has a little sprinkling of Southern strut, thank you =). They could have rearranged the tracks a bit more to make it truly like two separate albums, one harder and faster, one heavier and groovier. And while it's not nearly as off the wall as the Loads, it's a lot smoother and groovier with more tricks, some new, than they've employed in a while. I still go back and forth on a couple tracks but overall it's probably the most listenable album they've put out since Black.

Anyway, it's a fun heavy trip down memory lane, the way it progresses from fast and hard to heavy and groovy before returning to the former on the final track really is like the evolution of their career encapsulated in a single album, and somehow it works. They sound way more comfortable and competent doing it too, like they stopped trying to reinvent the wheel or compete with themselves and just picked up where they left off 20 years ago and put out a good album. Plus, it has a heavy song about Cthulhu, so... we have a winner! :ganishka:

I think for sure is better than st. Anger and death magnetic. Could be on par with load and reload for me. Have to listen to it more to make a concrete decision.

Yeah, I'd rank it somewhere before or after the first Load, but one's mileage may vary depending on how tolerant you are of that era.

St. Anger was bottom of the barrel for me.  Death magnetic was as forgettable as re load and I was too young to probably view load as the same.

Well, a large part of what's wrong with the last two releases wasn't even the songwriting, they were literally releasing sonically unlistenable albums (DM is actually worse than St. Anger to me that way, though I like the style and songwriting better and heard they fixed it in the 2013 remaster for itunes). But if you dislike those albums, Load through DM, but like Black and what came before you'll definitely like this better.

I think I'm expecting too much today from their early days.

Probably, but a few tracks on this album, particularly the first third will scratch that itch, and for fans that were introduced to the band later or didn't mind the 90's stuff it'll have a lot to offer you too. The thing that kind of impresses me is that they've reconciled their past with how their style evolved to the present. A career in the album of Metallica, if you will.

As for them making another Puppets, I think the problem is they couldn't produce that album in a vacuum now as fifty somethings anymore than we would be able to feel the same about it, or them, anyway. Neither the band or it's core fans are the same people they were back in the day, and I prefer they embrace that like this than try to make MOP2, which was basically Death Magnetic's mission statement. So, if the standard is it being as good as Puppets or another one of those untouchable albums, then it'll never live up (and I've seen people dismiss it on that basis, "Oh, we'll never an album like that again" duh), but if you just like Metallica in general and want to hear them sound like themselves again, it's the one we've been waiting for.

The Doom OST is god like. Iv been jamming to Slow magic (electro)  oh wonder (Indi pop) chronicles of a wasteland by Le Matos (electro) its the Turbo kid OST. That has been on repeat for months now! My children my bride (metal) and the wilderness by Explosions in the sky (ambient rock)  I highly recommend the chronicles of the wasteland album if you like any kind electro/chip tunes.

Those of you who enjoy the Doom OST might like the music for the latest Killer Instinct title. Many of the tracks in it were also composed by Mick Gordon, and he even does the original theme justice. It's a radical OST with a lot of variety, and kinda made me wish I had an Xbox One to play the game on.

Here are my personal favourite tracks:

Warlord - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpqct1zMqTE

The Tiger Warrior - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loSj5Iy1OOs

Hinnamatoom - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRtK2Fq-1Ew

Village of Whispers - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kef-MLsrC9I

Arena of Judgement - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0kEkh4r_j0&t=112s
(great for any long-time Halo fans who'll enjoy the various musical inflections taken from series)

BONUS FUN FACT: my father did the motion capture for TJ Combo and Chief Thunder in the original Killer Instinct. I cannot play it without laughing.

No way Really?? That is just a little silly. You get to enjoy that game in a way now that very few others would ever get to!  :isidro:

But Ruhe Strom is right, The Killer Instinct soundtrack is absolutely awesome. Same game, same style but a lot more going on. I listened to the couple tracks my physical copy came with for weeks on end.

I've been music hunting lately and came across some really nice tracks by Susumu Hirasawa.
The first one is called "love song" and its quite mellow.
The second and my personal favorite is called "Echoes." His vocals are really transcendental and it topped "Earth" from berserk for me. Check them out and please share what you think!

One of my favorite albums by AC.

I've been listening to the new Ulver the past two weeks ... it's intoxicating
