why don't you just buy it.

buying a dreamcast for 40 to 50 bucks on ebay and the game for 10 to 20 bucks isn't considered an option by everyone.
i for example have to pay about 430$ for that craphole i live in so yesss i downloaded Wolfenstein, MOHAA, SOFII, THPS3, DS, GTA3 cos with the money i get from my work i can't afford to buy all the stuff i'm interested in and i won't run to mom to beg for money nor do i want to move back there just to raise my head and tell everyone BS like copy kills music or something like that

A dreamcast emu? You have got to be joking. Seriously. Explain to me how your going to play a "ROM" of a GD-ROM Image on a PC emulating DCs internal hardware...It does not exsist. Yet.

It's just amazing how people think we young teens are all drunken shitfaced idiots. I do admit I'm 16, I do admit I have had a job since I was 12 serving bitches you like coffee. I do admit I saved up and bought my own computer. Heck, the only reason why I want this game is because it is Berserk. I am not going to buy a DreamCast just to play one game, maby if I was a consoul lover, and not a PC nazi, I would. I MUST thank you though, for your help. If it wasn't for you buying overly priced software, then I wouldn't be getting all of these rips and iso for free, due to a fact that the compenies aren't making them. I buy my fare share of games, and anime. The Berserk manga is in route to my house right now.

while i would prefer to watch this stupid quibble from a spectator's seat, i will say this:
first of all, i rip way too much software and mp3s. Most, if not all of us, here have broken some kind of piracy law there is in place. To stand on a pedestal and preach otherwise would be hypocritical.
However to say that those that worked to create the software or music that we all steal some how aren't deservant of the money they ask for in return would be wrong.
In the case of the berserk game (an example where i actually did buy the game), yukes spent a lot of time to take the manga and transform it into a beautiful game. They did well. Eidos took a risk by bringing it to an american audience. They, also, did well. They are entitled to financial compensation for their effort.

So in summary, we all steal software, ect. is it wrong? YES. To place some twisted logic that supports otherwise is ignorance.

Problem is that modern life marketing strategies try to create certain needs in us.
Unfortunately this concerns every goddamn consumable little fucking goodie out there, PC Games, toys, electronic devices blah blah blah

Point is i am so dumb to fall for most of it, so i always buy way to much of everything as it is so easy to get me with PC hardware, music equipment (Fender guitars!!!!), vintage Toys and these damn DVDs (i hope the one who invented them will rot in hell someday, with his balls cut off!!!)

I thought this was a Berserk board with people who like to discuss all things related to said topic. However, I see that this is yet another good forum gone south due to the rantings, yes I was as well, of a few immature people who feel that stealing is justified because

1) All the neat stuff out creates a demand they cannot afford so its ok to rip it off.

2) buying stuff is for lAm3rZ DOOD!

3) Why should anybody pay for anything when you can get it off p2p or usenet?

4) They emualted the PS1 so every console must be emulated therefore making it free to everyone. Even though its copyrighted and its illegal..eh, who cares.

5) Corporations are the EVIL no good devils who steal money from your wallet and candy from babies. Even tho without corporate sponsers you would have NO Berserk no videogames, DVDs , Food ( without growing it yourself ) etc. Hey, I have problems with this shit too but I realise that we have the best way of doing it right now..vs what? How would you geniuses fix the system? Steal everything and use your cash for porn? oh, wait you can get that free too.

anyway, this is the last I will say anything on this as I may just be prolonging this with my rants.

If anyone here does live in Canada, they will know that the money factor is a hell of a lot more cash.
A good rule of thumb is if I want to buy anything from america I should be prepared to spend twice what the price states.
Truthfully though, who here would buy a Counsoul for just one game? Well, probly me, because I really want to play Berserk, but I don't want to spend the money there when I can spend it elsewhere.

ya know, this is a debate i get into oft enough myself with various others. loathe as i am to pirate, you gotta admit, that while of course software developers deserve compensation, there is a proven conspiracy to drive up prices on software, music, dvd's, and pretty much everything on the market. there was a congressional inquiry a few years back that ended with a rather drastically reduced cost in the price of cd's, if you'll recall. this was based on unfair marketing & incontrovertible proof of conspiracy towards price inflation. remember the progressive movements of the early twentieth century? same thing, only fancier gizmos. unfortunately, the hearing i mentioned was only concerning music cd's. recently there's been a supressed furor over the inflation of other products as well, but all that's reported is the occassional news bit & then nothing more, because it's being suppressed by lobbys in washington & agreements among the manufactures. sure, some games are worth 50 bucks, but certainly not every game out there. & also, each unit costs very little to produce & there's MASSIVE profit to be had per unit. the solution, as judeua asked for, is fairly simple. as some of you may know, the average american ceo makes about 419 times as much money as their employees

(it's the second graph down. professor ryan's site is chock full of data on the subject of inequality in the land of the free, as are many others. that was just the first that sprung to mind). to those of you who say that that is the way of things & cannot be changed, go to the above link. other countries do things differently using the same basic economic model of capitalism, & yet their wealth is distributed in a far more reasonable fashion. on a sidenote, this "fat cat getting fatter" type of policy is a major contributing factor to our current economic dilemma, as any bold & truthful economist will attest. the solution here, as i'd think would be obvious, would be for the government to stop cowering before the financial might of corporate america, step in, & institute some laws governing this kind of abuse of the distribution of wealth.
so, in summation, the day that those working for video game companies, music labels, etc. start to see a significant fraction of the mutli-billion dollar product sales they help produce, is the day that companies deserve your money. that will also be the day that such things will be affordable for those of us who DO work for a living. after all, the minimum wage in this country is about 64%

yeah, i disapprove of piracy, but i disapprove far more of the companies that make it necessary in order for those other than the rich to enjoy their products. and before i get any "i'm just middle class" retorts, i'd like to point out that "middle class" is still rich to the poor.

Wow! Well said, Fletch. I just want to add one thing. I don't live in the Land of the free, I live in Canada, with free health care, and such. The only problem up here in Canada is that our dollar isn't worth anything. I don't care if the papers say it costs $1.64 to buy an american dollar. Where can I get those rates? Order someting online and the credit card compenies decide on their own rates. I have a hate/love relationship with Capitilism, I don't like comminism either, but i do know one thing. More cash people save and put in their pockets, means less cash out there. Good words Fletch.

I agree with judeu. Go buy a Dreamcast and the game, genius. I bought the Dreamcast just for that game. Oh, and if you don't have the money, go get a job where you can earn enough to afford it.

um... did you actually read any of the posts on here other than the first & judeau's? that's in no way a well reasoned argument, it merely restates, poorly, an already baseless statement. there is NO argument there, merely a declaration. try a little harder next time.
also, the job market is crap. i actually bought the dreamcast for Sword of the Berserk as well, however that was in brighter days & most of the posts in this thread were discussing the morality of piracy in general, not what you or i might have done.

I just wish people would get this through their heads. It is not that people like me are cheap, it is that we don't see any point in buying something with our hard earned cash when we want to buy other things.
Simple Calculation
Money = Lots of hours at job
Good items that cost money = worth it
Free Stuff = More money to spend on things that cost money
Money = Merchandise
if Merchandise = free than
Costly Merchandise = more of

Ok kid, let me be a little more detailed then.
You wanna justify piracy cause the products you want to have are too expensive? That's bullshit. If you want to buy a game or a console or anything else for your entertainment, it's luxus. It's nothing you would absolutely need for life. It's not that you would need a game as much as something to drink and to eat for life.
Stealing bread because you are near starvation is justified. Pirating a video game because you can't afford it isn't. You also can't steal a Porsche just because you want to have that car and think it's overpriced.
No one forces you to pay those prices for programs, games etc. If you can't afford it, don't whine you haven't got enough money. Just work harder to earn more money. Don't expect everything to be free.
