Movies to dread

I'm actually surprised it even ranked in at mediocre. I saw the previews and it didn't look promising to say the least. :schierke:

Yeah, I should have stuck with my gut on this one, but was swayed by the significance of its box office performance and cinemascore, "There must be some mind-blowing next level dinosaur shit in this thing!" Nope, people are sheep, and I ran right off the cliff with the rest of the herd. :ganishka:

LOL It happens! No offense to anyone who liked Avatar (the one with the blue people, not The Last Airbender), but the first time I watched it I was all hyped up by the end and excited about the movie. I went to watch it a second time with some different people and I was like "What the hell was I thinking?!" :puck:

I had the exact same experience. I got caught up in the excitement around the movie. I don't think there has been as effective a hype machine for a terrible movie since then (the next big "event" movie I can recall is Avengers, which was still pretty damned good). Then I saw it again and I awoke from the spell.

How about that Avatar 2?! :troll:

Man, I already knew Avatar's story and characters sucked before going in, I was just expecting some eye candy... And even then I was underwhelmed. I honestly have no idea how you guys were tricked into seeing it twice.

Well, at least I'm not alone. I don't know if somebody snuck some hallucinogens into my soda the first time or what happened. The second time around I found it so unwatchable I was shifting around in my seat and just wishing it would end already. I don't think I've ever experienced anything where I had such a change in opinion from one viewing to another.

Early reviews are up for Terminator: Genisys, and SURPRISE, it's pretty bad, folks! There appears to be a similar high note throughout the reviews though, best captured by The Verge:

Director Alan Taylor painstakingly crafts the 1984 sequences, even recreating specific shots from the original, and the likeness is uncanny. James Cameron described his movie’s gritty, low-budget aesthetic as "tech noir" at the time, and there’s something immediately dangerous and visceral in the look and static camerawork. Much like Mad Max: Fury Road, it’s a big-screen reminder of just how generic so many modern blockbusters are, and sure enough that brief breath of fresh air is sucked out of the room the moment Genisys begins deviating from the original film, adopting the same jokey, PG-13 tone that seems to pervade every major blockbuster these days.

Yeah, shame and yet, expected. It looked bad from the start. I've been told it's a good homage to the first two movies and is better than movies 3 and 4. It's Arnold, I was going to go see it anyway this coming weekend. Cameron I suspect isn't saying bad things because of the homage and also possible because the rights of the franchise go back to him in 2019 (they went to Hamilton during her divorce settlement), after which he can do whatever he wants post 10/15 years of Avatar~ness.

Oburi

All praise Grail
The only thing we can hope for now is that it's so horribly bad and convoluted that it has laughing value at how ridiculous it is. Although seeing as how this seems to shit all over the original, you'd have to get over being offended by that, which may be easier said than done.

Stopped reading the "review" as soon as it disses Fury Road.

I think you misread that line about Fury Road. It's saying that Fury Road is exemplary of great action, and why it stands apart from the recent crop of action movies.

The concensus seems to be that Arnold is the only redeeming thing about it, and even that is kind of sad considering he's still in this pile of shit.

Since a lot of the Batman vs Superman talk's been in this thread, here are some pictures WB has just released publicly -

Trailer for Suicide Squad is out and it looks off ... those designs look weak or maybe it's because I'm used to seeing a crazier Quinn or how they leave the Joker till the end but it just falls flat in the trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLLQK9la6Go

I'm officially never going to watch this. Felt very bad about the tats. Drawing the line at boy george.

That's a um... interesting costume design. Are we sure this isn't secretly a Joel Schumacher project? That being said, the article itself didn't turn me off. Sounds like Leto is really embracing the role. Good for him. I think it'll be interesting to see how he performs.

Still... I don't have one iota of interest in actually watching this thing.

I think my favorite part is the random "stylized" Psycho Killer text that looks like someone wrote on there in a word processor. :ganishka:

Speaking of self-serious infantilism, the entire DCU should be designated as "at risk."

Why the hell would you remake Memento - http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/christopher-nolans-memento-get-remake-840587

I'd be a little more accepting if they took the idea/ story and turned into a TV series. Fargo's so sooooo good but it could also go the other way like the sucky Minority Report TV show.

Trailer for Gods Of Egypt

The good - over the top
The bad - white washed cast, Stargate rip-off

Gonna see this with a considerable amount of alcohol and hopefully it'll be a laugh riot.

Batman v Superman trailer 3

Looks worse than I thought, and for different reasons than I thought! Kind of reminds me of the Ninja Turtles remake (I think I even saw one in there =), but maybe it's just the tone of this trailer trying to appeal to a wide audience with some terrible jokes/dialogue? Idk, but if I was counting on this being the SERIOUS superhero answer to Marvel's more light hearted big screen heroics I'd be real worried because this looks cheesy as fuck. Affleck is merely underwheming as Batman, but what the Hell is Eisenberg doing? He might be simultaneously the best and worst thing about this because nothing else, comidically or dramatically, really worked for me either.
