Can the Skull Knight and Zodd be mythical creatures like Puck and not apostles?

It seems obvious that the Skull Knight and Zodd are not like other preternatural beings in Berserk. When Zodd and Skully meet during the eclipse ceremony.. that conversation that took place, could it be that the gates and duties appointed be about Elfhelm and its king or is that completely off? Just want to know your opinions.

p.s I posted a topic mean for speculation nation but accidentally posted it in forum news. :judo:

In short, no. Skull Knight was once a human, as according to Flora (and several other pieces of information strewn about the manga), and Zodd is definitely an apostle, since both he and Skull Knight have referred to him as such.

And I think you're confused about the "gatekeeper" line. Skull Knight just asked if Zodd was appointed as the watchdog of the door to the Eclipse in vol 13. Zodd essentially replied: "Im just here for a fight. WITH YOU!"

There's really not a lot of room for other interpretations. These are just two tough guys that like to speak in metaphors -- it shows off their age  :badbone:  :zodd:

Well it isn't a matter of opinions. Like Walter said, it seems you're completely mistaken about their exchange in volume 13. But to simply answer the question in the thread title: Zodd is an apostle (it even says so in the short presentation for his character at the beginning of volumes 27 & 28), but the Skull Knight isn't one. He was human at some point but has obviously undergone some drastic changes since then (the details of which we can only speculate on).

Neither of them is an elemental creature like Puck. However, as an apostle (for Zodd) and as whatever SK is, they both exist in the astral world as well as in the material one. Yet they still cannot be compared to piskies (like Puck) in that regard, because elves are purely spiritual beings.
