Greek police have mounted a manhunt for two convicted robbers after their daring helicopter escape from the country's main high-security prison - the second time the two have broken out of prison in the same way.

Police arrested three prison guards and the helicopter pilot Monday, while the prime minister has called an emergency meeting to discuss the escape.

Vassilis Paleokostas, 42, and Alket Rizaj, 34, were picked up by a helicopter that flew over the courtyard of Athens' Korydallos prison on Sunday afternoon. The two had escaped from the same prison in the same way just three year ago.

Justice Minister Nikos Dendias fired three officials for the lapse - the general secretary of the ministry, the inspector-general of prisons and the head of the Korydallos prison.

What happened to the good old days of digging through the wall with a spoon and escaping through the sewage pipe? Prisoners these days. :azan:

This actually reminds me of a really funny French film. Tais-toi! with Jean Reno and Gérard Depardieu.

Except they did it with a crane. Almost as high-profile.

Prison escapes using helicopters aren't that uncommon you know. It first happened in Ireland in 1973.
