Shootin' the Breeze / Which is the best "recent" videogame?
« on: April 18, 2006, 08:39:38 PM »
SoTC is best for me, with Berserk as a close second.

Shootin' the Breeze / FFVII - Dirge of Cerberus
« on: March 03, 2006, 07:20:53 PM »
Did anyone try this one out?

I did.. and it sucks bigtime. i was hoping for a cool follow up to DMC1...  :judo:

but it's not.
it sucks in every aspect. the controls are weird, the graphic is not that great at all, the gameplay is repetetive and the story... yeah the story - what story?

i dropped it after one level.
anyone else played it through?

« on: March 30, 2005, 06:41:45 PM »
Hy all,

does any of you posess any albums of hirasawa? i admire the man for the music he created for berserk the anime and ps-game. i can't figure out which of his cd's are related to the berserk music in terms of style, for he has produced quite a lot of cds.
if you have any recommendations, let me know please.

and yes... i checked out his site already.

Shootin' the Breeze / Miyazaki
« on: October 15, 2003, 03:51:59 AM »
i'm currently building up a collection of good animes.

what i'm still missing is a "miyazaki section".   ;D
does anyone know good animes by hayao miyazaki, other then "mononoke" and "spirited away"? any recommendations?

Shootin' the Breeze / The Anime VS The Manga aka The Story of BERSERK
« on: March 27, 2003, 08:57:54 AM »

first of all, i agree with everything Olivier said about the Berserk anime. It's definitely right that it's a half-assed adaption of our beloved "seinen manga". lots of events just don't take place in the anime. they canceled the appearance of the SK and so on.

But still... how do you feel about the anime? i can only talk for myself, but i like the animated series a lot, i'd even say i like it better than the manga due to various reasons.

.) The Story Arc treated in the anime is the "Taka No Dan Arc", which is IMO by far the best in the entire story of berserk. The amount of emotion in this part of the epos is just overwhelming... the other arcs just don't match all that deep-going, philosophical quality of this very arc. Moreover it is - although it ceases with a dead end - a story that is coherent: The main message of berserk was being said already IMO.

.) No character of another Arc can match with those mentioned in Taka No Dan (Farnese, Serpico, Luca VS Griffith (the original one), Casca, Judeau... do i need to say more?) when it comes to depth and character.

.) What actually happens outside of the Taka No Dan Arc except for Guts killing one apostle after another??? I'm sayin' that i get the message really right now, i don't need entire volumes that show Guts struggling against apostles before finally defeating them. I can see that the whole thing gets more and more horrific for Guts, and that horror himself become a part of Guts' character by every move he makes.
I enjoyed seeing how relationships between major characters like Griffith, Guts and Casca way more. You don't get that kind of thing in the manga - i mean not in those dimensions. Farnese and Serpico are characters that aren't related to the main story line what-so-ever! The story has to focus on the _personal_ story of chars like Farnese in order to make them appear interesting. But actually all those people aren't essential to the actual storyline.

.)Susumu Hirasawa's music makes it all a lot more emotional! You don't have that feature in the manga.

.) The anime contains a decent amount of brutality, the amount exactly fits for the purpose of making berserk a manga with enough action and enough horror to get the right feeling for what it is. The manga, however, exceeds that limit clearly after my fancy.

Shootin' the Breeze / Lord of the Rings: The two Towers
« on: December 19, 2002, 10:22:32 PM »
What do you think?

Like "The Fellowship of the Ring" it was surpassing my expectations - once more.

It was close to perfection. Directing, Camera, CGI, Acting, Music, etc... were just incredible.
They focussed a lot on the battle of Helm's Deep - well i didn't have a problem with that. ^^;

Never seen a fully animated character of such perfection as Gollum - it's truly unbelievable what can be accomplished in this field today - if you have a budget. ^^

Some Scenes were really close to my imaginations when i read the second book of tolkien's fantasy epos.

P.S. IMO there are too many "Hollywood-needs-to-be-in-the-movie-events". Does Gimli really have to be funny all the time?
How about the first inner monolog (dialog?) of Gollums/Smeagols split personality?    :-\

Other than that, it was a fantastic movie.

Shootin' the Breeze / Tetris
« on: December 17, 2002, 04:14:14 PM »
What's your personal record at this video-game.

i was playing the game-boy version yesterday, and set a new personal record at 148 lines...    :o

(when i played it 5 years ago i only got 80-100 most of the time. apparently some things become easier as you grow up...)

P.S. I guess Olivier's is like 211 or something. ^^

Shootin' the Breeze / six general anime questions...
« on: December 17, 2002, 04:11:16 PM »
1) Jin-Roh the movie: good/bad (story!)
2) Twilight Master?? ( i think that was the title) what is it? good/bad?
3) Soultaker? (does it suck?)
4) Mizayaki's Porko Rosso (is it as good as the guy said?)
5) Cowboy Bebop HK Set (are the subtitles really _that_ bad? isn't it worth watching it with those subs/do you get the plot?)
6) Anyone seen the second part of Ninja Resurection. it's called jubei's revenge. i've seen the first and i'm just curious about the outcome of that demonic conspiracy. is it worth 25$?

yeah, that's about it. just answer on whatever is familiar to you... thx.

Shootin' the Breeze / "Versus"
« on: December 17, 2002, 04:04:41 PM »
Does anyone know this movie?

It's Korean i think. The guy on the cover reminds of Dante in DevilMayCry (he has a black Coat, a gun in his left hand and a sword in his right)

It looks quite bloody.
I was wondering if it's some good action.

Speculation Nation / Void is the SKullknight's brother?
« on: December 14, 2002, 06:10:38 PM »
This Spec is not from me. It's from a guy called "gordon_" from another board.

If you guys remember in Chapter 10 when they were on their way to rescue Griffith, the princess explained the story of the ruins he was imprisoned in and the ancient ruler Gaiseric?  How God was jealous of him and sent three angels to destroy his kingdom?

From reading that episode you can pretty much gather that the Skull Knight is most likely the ancient ruler Gaiseric and Void (the 4th GodHand) is his brother whom as his sacrifice offered up the kingdom Gaiseric itself. That is why there were so many bodies at the bottom of the ruins with the seal of the sacrifice on them.

Also I don't believe the Gaiseric was offered as a sacrifice, but somehow found his way to becoming an Apostle. How he became an apostle is beyond me, but I don't think he was ever a sacrifice. I could be wrong though as no one knows the true story :).

i was quite impressed. what do you guys think? it seems to makes sense to me. i don't have my manga right now to check, but...

Shootin' the Breeze / Which Movie is worse: "The Ring" or "They"
« on: December 02, 2002, 06:09:54 PM »
The Ring

a hundred of different aspects inflicted, nothing explained. plenty of things don't seem to make any sense at all.

no story at all.

Now what's worse?

Site & Forum News / quoting

is weird.

do you think you can do something about it, wally?

or is it too much effort? i'd understand if it is, just asking.

Shootin' the Breeze / heheheh... BUSH!

this explains everything!    ;D
(and it's not a fake)

Shootin' the Breeze / FINAL FANTASY X-2?
« on: October 27, 2002, 08:07:12 PM »
First of all sorry everyone who is annoyed about FF-related talking on this board.

But i just feel like this might be somewhat _important news_ for certain people...

So what should i think of this?

Shootin' the Breeze / why is this board dying?
« on: October 02, 2002, 05:43:23 PM »
or am i the only one who thinks it is... ?

why is this?
and what can we do to prevent it?
have we talked about everything that we can talk about on berserk already? or do we just run out of ideas?

or is this just a certain_period of time_ where virtually _nothing_ is happening.

what do you think?

Site & Forum News / new status/ranking system update
« on: September 26, 2002, 03:12:35 PM »
so you said you added 3 ranks to the board, wally?

what post count do you need in order to reach them?

EDIT: nothing?? i thought you implemented three more ranks to the board, wally? or didn't you?

Speculation Nation / void's goal?
« on: September 23, 2002, 06:30:01 PM »
this quote of walter made me reflect about void's ultimate destination.

I don't really think Void wants to be king. His goals seem a little more far-reaching.

have we ever discussed that on this board?
what might be a potential goal for Void?
i have no clue about him. His aims seem to be shrouded in mystery, almost like the Skullknight aim is.

Site & Forum News / just a thought
« on: September 17, 2002, 03:48:34 PM »

how about you'd use tiny beherits for the ranking?

green ones for normal users and crimsons for admins, probably.
imo that would look cool.

you could also use a special colour for Olvier...

Speculation Nation / how long...
« on: October 24, 2001, 04:13:28 AM »
What do you think for how long the manga series is gonna take?
up to 30 volumes? 50? more?
when is it gonna be finished?
Did Miura say something about his plans?

Speculation Nation / griff's first words
« on: December 01, 2001, 02:38:19 AM »
another proof for how well-grounded berserk is.
griffith's first words are:

"Do as you like"   :P

Speculation Nation / god / devil
« on: April 15, 2002, 01:01:04 AM »
another _cute_ moment in the manga: shortly after their first battle against zoddo, guts and griffith have a conversation. griffith says that maybe zoddo's existence proves that there's a god in this world. guts objects: "wouldn't that be more of a devil than of a god?". griffith looks at him and says:

Gods, Devils - they're all the same!

i don't know, maybe most of you think there's nothing special about that, ... i think it's kinda psycho!

oh well...    :-X

Berserk Miscellaneous / god hand
« on: October 15, 2001, 09:54:08 AM »
i was wondering wether the god hand, consisting of Slann, Conrad, Ubik and Void were representing some human (evil) characteristics.
I mean... gosh that's difficult to explain for me... but that's something I feel when I look at them.

does anyone know what I mean?     :-/

I mean, Void reminds me of someone who uses his extraordinary intelligence to realize his evil plans...
Ubik seems to me like some hypocrit grinning guy who pretends to be your friend, but plans something else
Conrad looks like what I call the prototype of a liar...
And Slann... forces her target in a trap with her very sexy appearance.
(i guess we've all experienced that   ;) )

well perhaps someone gets my point on this...

Character Cove / Guts/Griffith Dream
« on: October 31, 2001, 11:05:26 AM »
How would you define the dream of Guts?
I thought about that and was unable to find his real motivation.

is that really it?

How would you define the dream of Griffith,

Still dreaming of his own castle? dreaming of being "the ruler"?

is that really it?

or... is there something else?    ???
