Berserk Miscellaneous / What interests you the most in Berserk?
« on: September 15, 2004, 04:53:15 PM »
After years of reading this story I still think the original story (first 16 volumes or so) was the best part of what's happened so far, but what keeps me reading is not so much the end of the story, but the begining that we have only glimpsed at.  I want to know more about the history of Midland.  The trip to elfhelm is dragging IMO.

Any other opinions?

Speculation Nation / Is Casca Kushan?
« on: November 25, 2003, 02:42:53 PM »
Well it's either dead obvious and I've just been overlooking it until now, or it's a new way of looking at her past and subsequently the role she'll play in the future.

Flame On! :-*

Shootin' the Breeze / TAMALA 2010: A PUNK CAT IN SPACE
« on: September 30, 2003, 09:14:38 PM »
Anyone else witnessed this masterpiece.
Quite possible the wierdest most ambient anime ever.
Definately ranks up there with Angel's Egg on the out-there factor.

Speculation Nation / Old Skully and Void Thoery with Page Numbers
« on: September 12, 2003, 03:09:35 PM »
This is old so don't bitch.
I'm posting it so others can use the page numbers for reference.
Plus it seemed relevant to all the other recent bullshit theories. ::)

Fact: Approximately 1000 years ago... (v10c6p118-128)
King Gasaeric ruled the land, and became known as the king of the dead, and Gasaeris the conqueror. He wore heavy armor, and a Skull Mask.

Fact: He held a wiseman in captivity... (v18c6p107)
This man was tortured in the dungeon, until one day angels came to save him.

Fact: Four Angels descended upon the Kingdom... (v10c6p122-123)
They were sent to punish Gasaeric, and the King disappeared.

Theory: The wiseman summoned the Angels... (c216p7)
Well he's a wiseman, probably meaning magician, and he's got the best motive. Also Schierke explains that the summon spell "Four Kings" brings forth four angels from the astral world into the real through a mind longing for salvation.

Fact: A huge Sacrifice occurs... (v10c6p128)
These sacrificed were thrown to the bottom of this tower, along with all other evidence of King Gasaeric's rule. Each of the bodies we see in the pit is marked by the brand of a sacrifice.

Theory: Void becomes the first God Hand... (Interview with Miura?)
If the interview is correct then Void is God Hand number one, and if every 216 years after that a new God Hand is born, then that brings us almost a thousand years forward to when Griffith becomes Femto. And since those corpses were marked with the brand, it's logical to assume a God Hand was born. Most likely the wiseman, sacrificed the people he was originally trying to protect with the angels summon, in order to exact revenge on Gasaeric.

The above are all the facts and theories I know of that are at least based on actually facts. But popular consensus and circvmstantial evidence can take us much farther (and well out into nowhere if we let it )

Maybe: Skeleton Knight is branded... (v24c7p147)
Flora all but says this to a shadowy figure that could only be Skully himself.

Maybe: Gasaeric was branded...
Well he was there 1000 years ago, and he did torture the wiseman, who presumably made the sacrifice.

Conclusion: Gasaeric became the Skeleton Knight...
Gasaeric wears the skeleton armor, Skully wears the skeleton armor... I mean come on! Seriously though, I think it's safe to say The wiseman made the sacrifice and became Void, Gasaeric escaped, but was branded. He put on his armor and began plotting against Void, while gaining power.

Site & Forum News / Read/Unread Icon suggestion
« on: August 25, 2003, 10:12:46 PM »
I think it would be cool if the unread boards would have the lil' screaming red betty icon, and the read topics would have the sleeping betty.

That is all.

Speculation Nation / Are we bigger fans than the Japanese Readers?
« on: August 14, 2003, 05:19:32 PM »
This kinda of silly but I've been curious ever since I originally read the "Speculation of Universal Porportions" Thread, way back when.
Do you think that the Japanese readers of the Beserk manga speculate and theorize as much as we do on this board?  I've of course seen some Japanese fan sites and thought I cannot read them, their BBS systems don't look that used.
Enlighten me if possible.

Shootin' the Breeze / The Amber Cronicles (Rodger Zelazny)
« on: April 15, 2003, 03:42:58 PM »
Any of you ever read this series...
I really enjoyed it again for the first time.
It's kinda of old, but it so easy and fun to read.

Speculation Nation / Volume Release Schedule
« on: April 02, 2003, 04:47:43 PM »
This Graph is courtesy of kokoon.  The credit is all his...

Y = Number of Days since last release
X = Volume Number

So based on this information you can speculate the exact release date based on the release date of the last volume.

IE volume 24 was December 19th, and with the trend heading downward it looks like volume 25 should be about 168 days later, which would be... uhh math...  June 5th, 2003.  Make your preorders now!  :P

Believe it or not I actually got this idea from the "Is guts immortal?" and "What if Guts cut his brand off..." threads...

Let's say Gasaeric is Skully (Stay with me here...).  Now Let's get a little more daring and say Gasaeric was branded and escaped being sacrificed (This has been alluded to, and theorized to death...).  That accepted (And those who don't can stop reading) it can be assumed that Gasaeric has been living in the Interstice (you know that crazy realm between the Mortal and Astral realms, that Guts and Casca like to hang out in) for about 1000 years now.  The known affects of living in the Interstice are vaguely outlined already in other theories (so I won't go into it here) however, I propose that the inhabitants are endowed with a spiritual immortality and their bodies remain mortal.  So basically Gasaeric's essence has continued to strive forward for the past 1000 years but during that time his flesh decomposed (or was torn off), leaving only a skeleton behind, which we now know as The Skeleton Knight.  A fate which Guts and Casca will someday face should they survive, unable to break the branding.

It seems obvious if you think about it, but I could be off...
Let me know what ya think...

P.S. You can post as many pictures as you want, but I don't see hinges.

Encyclopedia: Q&A / Young Animal Subscription
« on: October 28, 2002, 11:36:40 PM »
I'm interested in how happy you guys are with your Young Animal subscriptions in North America.  I basically have few questions for those who have the time to answer, so I can decide if and how to get a subscription myself.
Thanks in Advance!

1. Where did you subscribe from?
2. How much did it cost?
3. How long did it take for each issue to get to you?
4. Is it worth it to you for just reading Berserk?
5. Can you read Japanese?

Speculation Nation / Good vs Evil? (It's never that simple)
« on: October 28, 2002, 09:24:21 PM »
Here's my proposal... there exists Two Essences in this Universe.
For simplicity sake I'm going to refer to them as Good and Evil because the term evil is actually a part of one of their names, but let it be known, I do not believe we can truly know at this point which side is actually good or evil, or if they aren't both one or the other (Well... Both good? I doubt it).
Evil has been revealed in the lost chapter 83; he was introduced as "The Idea of Evil" and from then on "Idea" as I will refer to him.
Good has also been introduced to us, but much more subtly. I propose that Good is what has been referred to as Fate.
Both of these Entities reside in the Abyss, controlling The World.

Now the Origins of these Two:
Evil (The Idea says it best himself in Ch 83):
Griffith: Why did humans give birth to this will called God?
The Idea: Humans
The Idea: desired reasons
The Idea: Reasons for pain. Reasons for sadness
The Idea: Reasons for life
The Idea: Reasons for death
The Idea: Why were their lives filled with suffering? Why were their deaths absurd?
The Idea: They wanted reasons for the destiny that kept transcending their knowledge
Griffith: And that was
Griffith: God...
The Idea: And I produce those
The Idea: As it is what I've been brought to existence for
The Idea: I control destiny
Basically he was born from man's desire to know why bad things happen. "Reasons for life" above most likely is in a bad sense too, like "God why did you give me such a crappy life?!". He was created to justify Fate, and believes that he is the only true god, although he can not control fate completely.

I believe fate has always existed in this universe; Idea refers to this as "man's destiny" later, which existed before him.

Now here's how they control the World:
It created a soldier to be born into humanity, one who would united the people under one rule, someone who would delight in wars against all who opposed him, and eventually control the entire world. Often referred to as "The King of Death" this man is known in history books as King Gaseric, but today he exists as the Skeleton Knight. (You knew I was going there!)

Fate planted Beherits in the world to bring select humans out of the Mortal realm, and make them serve Fate. Five special red Beherits exist that promote to a God Hand who rule the Astral realm. Other Beherits exist that promote to Apostles, which act as servants of the God Hand in the Mortal realm. These promotions are made through sacrifice, in an attempt to break the bonds the appointee has to the Mortal realm.

Here's where we stand today:
The God Hand realized that Gaseric was attempting to take over the world and they intervened. This is the coming of a group angels that Princess talks about when she is telling Gaseric's story. It's hard to say what actually happened at this point. But we do know that a huge sacrifice was made, that the city was destroyed, Gaseric is assumed dead with no heir, and the tower of "rebirth" is built on that site in the years to follow.  What we don't know is exactly how many angels came down! Here's the proof: Volume 10 Chapter 6 Pages 122 and 123. Judo says that he has heard the story too, and then he begins to speak, and tells that "God sent five Angels to punish King Gaseric" and that everything was destroyed. Then somebody says "Wasn't it four only?". I can't tell who said it, might be Casca, but it was probably Charlotte. Charlotte was told the story by a historian, not as some fairy tale (as Judo perceived it), and when you think about it four makes the most sense, because Femto has not yet been created. The Next unanswered question is who made the sacrifice (all the branded corpses and the bottom of the tower)? Most likely Gaseric, which means he must have used a Beherit... possibly a red Beherit in an attempt to gain more power in the Astral realm as one of the God Hand? Whatever he did, it changed him and eventually led to his current status as the Skull Knight. Also as a result of this conflict, the Skeleton Knight became an enemy of the God Hand and of Fate itself, which he attempts to undermine by devouring all the Beherits he can find, thus reducing the power Fate has over the Mortal realm, a power that was stripped from King Gaseric in the events detailed above.

Okay That's it.....
I really hope you guys can help fill in the holes above, or present your own speculations.
If you agree let me know, and if you disagree that's great too...
I put a lot of time, research, and thought into writing this,
but I apologize if some of it is rehashed old news, I'm new to this forum.
