■□■ Guts 2010 Ver. 1/6 scale - Black Version ■□■

Pre-orders will start at 12:00 p.m., July 23 (Sat)(Japanese time).

We’ve received a fair amount of inquiries and requests for Guts in his black Berserker armor. Art of War therefore decided to create a black version of our “Guts 2010 Ver. 1/6 scale”.

When Guts brandished the Dragon Slayer, his mantle was fluttering in the wind. You will be surprised at how this statue is full of life and well-sculpted.

By adding copious amounts of blood running down his body, this black version is more dynamic in comparison to our previous representations of the statue. The blood work on the base and the sword is very powerful.

*Image only.

In addition, we used various colors to enhance the dynamic imagery in order to give it a realistic look. The metallic luster adds to his armor's weight. You can see subtle differences in the colors used in Guts’ mantle and armor. We believe our complex paint job will allow you to enjoy different images of Guts.

Code No. 244: Guts 2010 Ver. 1/6 scale - Black Version
Limited to 30 pieces.
Unit price: 65,000 Yen (tax excluded)

Attachment: Inter-changeable Guts head and serial number nameplate

Size: 54cm (W) x 31.5cm (H) x 34cm (D) (1/6 scale/ base and sword included)
Material: Polystone and metal (the serial no. nameplate)

Estimated release time: around 2 months after we receive your pre-order
* Please note:

- The deadline for pre-order is the end of August. It is possible that only the pre-orders that place before the deadline would be fulfilled instead of 30 pieces.
- We do not accept requests to details on how the item should be painted.

I'm making a thread about this studio because they're releasing two awesome games that I think really deserved to be talked about. The studio is notable for having released Contra 4 and Shantae: Risky's Revenge in the past, 2 excellent side-scrolling games.

The first one of their new titles is BloodRayne: Betrayal on XBLA and PSN. The second is Aliens: Infestation on NDS.

Betrayal is a fresh start for the BloodRayne franchise and seems heavily influenced by the Castlevania series (SotN and similar exploration-based titles, themselves influenced by the Metroid series), but with a more macabre style that I find a bit reminiscent of Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen. Here's its first trailer:

Aliens: Infestation is based on the famous movie series and is an "action-heavy side-scrolling exploration game", so essentially the same genre BloodRayne: Betrayal is, although maybe more action-oriented. You'll be able to play with 19 different marines, each with unique dialogue options and explore environments from the movies.

The first screenshots:

I am very excited by both of these projects, and extremely glad that there are still some developers in this day and age with the talent and motivation to make great side-scrolling titles. Long live the genre!

Berserk Merchandise / Guts Arm Cannon 1/2 Scale
« on: April 16, 2011, 08:23:19 AM »
■□■ Guts Arm Cannon 1/2 Scale ■□■

Pre-order will start at 12:00 p.m., April 23 (Japanese time).

■ Replica of Guts’ mechanical arm

After two years of development, a high level of detail is featured in this product. For instance, the fingers are movable, and a marble-painted base is attached. You can remove the arm cannon from the base and create your own way to display it.

■ Metal look

We used various colors to enhance the dynamic imagery in order to give it a realistic metallic look. You can see some damage on this artificial arm. The detail of the sculpt makes it feel authentic.

■ Precise structure

This arm cannon is just like we see it in the manga. The structure is based on Mr. Miura’s original work; the hammer is also movable. When the hammer moves backward, it is ready to fire. We believe our effort with this artwork will allow you to enjoy recreating a specific scene.

Speculation Nation / What will the Sea God look/be like?
« on: August 22, 2010, 09:34:44 PM »
We've discussed this question to some extent in the episode threads but I think this deserves a thread of its own.

The Sea God is the entity behind every hardship Guts et al. have encountered since episode 308. By all accounts, from its very name to the minions it employs, it seems to be an extremely powerful and dangerous being. According to what Isma told Isidro and Schierke, we know that it is an ancient, malevolent creature who almost emptied the sea of all life before it was defeated and imprisoned by merrows.

Even then, it was still strong enough to attack whatever it could during full moons. Now that the worlds have merged it is about to be free again; in fact a mysterious "rebirth ceremony" that would serve that exact purpose is supposed to be taking place tonight from the characters' perspective.

At this point we've seen what its minions (its "arms and legs") look like: monstrous sea cucumbers coming out of even bigger sea slugs. Said minions have the ability to assimilate the humans they kill to transform them into tentacles. But we've yet to learn anything concrete about what the Sea God itself is like. The only visual clue we have is the old idol the villagers used to worship:

So simply said: what do you think the Sea God will be like? A ridiculously huge monster the size of the island itself? A comparatively small creature at the heart of a "network" of minions? An astral, intangible being sealed away by magic? Will it show some real intelligence and maybe even communicate with Guts' band or will it be dumb and bestial? Will it look just like the idol or is it merely a symbolic representation?

This might not be the E3 but it looks like there are some things worth checking out.

I followed the EA conference live, here's a debrief:

The Sims Medieval looks elaborate, great animations and graphics for the genre. Not a fan of the games so that's all I'll say, except that the game strained their demo machine at times... Doesn't bode well for the average Sims player. Game will be out in March 2011. Footage here.

They had some impressive new Dead Space 2 footage that showed Isaac in various a Zero-G environments. Very cool visually and more promising to me than the E3 trailer. Isaac's voice sounded a bit... mismatched to me, but other than that it was great. Footage here.

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit is about all Cops vs Criminals and the multiplayer will be the same. I'm not big into NFS but the footage looked very fun. Footage here.

Medal of Honor had no real footage to show (will be at the Sony conference) but they had interviews with their consultants, ex-Spec Ops soldiers or whatever. It was promising since they're apparently striving to make the game as realistic as possible. I think it might stand a chance despite Modern Warfare's popularity. Footage here.

There was a Harry Potter game using Kinect controls, but to be honest I didn't pay attention to it. See the footage here if you care.

Next were the Bioware announcements. They talked a bit about The Old Republic but nothing noteworthy, then moved to a special Mass Effect announcement. I was half-excited but it turns out it's Mass Effect 2 coming out on the PS3 in January 2011. Cool for those who've only got a PS3 but boring for everyone else, and since there's no word about ME1 coming out on PS3 (was co-developed with Microsoft Studios so I'm not even sure it's possible) I'm not sure it's all that interesting even for PS3 owners. Then they showed a Dragon Age 2 trailer, pretty but no gameplay, so useless. Trailer here.

After that was the best part of the conference along with Dead Space 2 to me, that is the presentation of Crysis 2's multiplayer. Showed a 6 vs 6 battle on top of a few buildings and it looked awesome. I'm waiting for the game even more now. Apparently you'll be able to customize your nanosuit according to your playstyle in addition to the standard suit powers. Footage here.

Following Crysis was Bulletstorm, which I have to say looks fun as far as the weapons and kills go, but the constant corny and overacted chatter between the characters annoyed me enough that I'm still uninterested in the game. Footage here.

Last came Peter Moore to talk about EA Sports, but there was nothing particularly worthy of attention. They've got David Beckham working on their fitness game and they showed some FIFA 11 footage (a demo will be available on September 16) but that's about it. Footage here.

Some stuff not from the conference:

Might & Magic Heroes VI
Red Faction Armageddon pitch & footage
Rage (from Quakecon)
Bioshock Infinite debut trailer

One of the original creators of X-Com talking about making a turn-based Tactical-RPG on the Nintendo 3DS:

Publishers run a mile from anything with turn-based mechanics - it is regarded as too niche. RTS games pretty much killed off turn-based strategy games in the mid-90s - but now even RTS games are regarded as niche. So all my experience working turn-based games from 1983-1997 is now somewhat obsolete, despite the success of X-Com. However, I am now working on a turn-based tactical RPG which will be a 3DS launch title. Thanks to 'Advance Wars', 'Fire Emblem' and 'Final Fantasy Tactics' it seems turn-based games are not totally dead - at least for Nintendo handhelds. I would also argue that Pokemon has a lot of parallels with X-Com in its game system, despite being classified as an 'RPG'. The core of Pokemon is a turn-based tactical battle enriched by a sophisticated higher level meta-game that allows players to experiment with many game elements and combinations of forces - and Pokemon is the second most successful game franchise in the world. If done right, would an X-Com game with a turn-based combat system be successful? Absolutely!

Let's get the ball rolling with this:

Project Natal is now "Kinect". Funny that MS would go so far in emulating Nintendo as to choose an improbable name for their motion control device. :iva:

But seriously, I can't help but to have a bad feeling about it. I've always held the belief that there was something to be done with motion control if it was used sparingly and in conjunction with classic controls, and yet the Wii showed us that it was a dire task for the average developer. Kinect's approach is way more extreme since it does away with the controller itself, and it does so on a platform that is not especially amicable to the idea in the first place. Add to that a potentially high launch price and I'm afraid it's not going to be quite the success MS is hoping for.

What do you guys think?
