Character Cove / A Zodd theory
« on: August 09, 2001, 07:41:27 PM »
Zodd is a very strange case of an apostle. We know that he IS an apostle, for he makes Guts brand react and Wild refers to himself and Zodd as the same kind of creature. However, why does Zodd resemble nothing even close to regular apostles? Perhaps this relates to that new theory that Apostles forms are influenced by their dreams. Zodds intentions are rather noble in comparison to the other apostles, who mainly live for sex and general rampaging.

Zodd seemingly, lives to find the "Ultimate Strong One". Which leads us to believe that he concieved a vision of this strong one loooong ago. He has been searching for 300 years, what does that mean? I think it means that something happened before the last eclipse (216+ years ago) that made him begin searching; an omen of the strong one, if you will. Or that he was born only 300 years ago and searches for someone that can go toe to toe with him, because the others on this planet bore him.

The above can easily be refuted with Zodd's current intentions, of serving Griffith. While we dont know specifically what they are, he is obviously on some sort of leash. Either he fears Griffs power (doubtful) or he knows what Griff is to become, if he is indeed the Ultimate Strong One, and he is protecting him for his future role as the strong one.

I realize that I have basically just re-stated common knowledge, but I believe we now have enough evidence to make a decent theory on the above subject. Agree? Disagree?

Character Cove / A Griffith Assertion
« on: April 16, 2002, 12:24:53 AM »
The actual limitations of God Hand's and the reincarnated Griffith's powers are a common misconception. First and foremost, we don't know them. Id also like to point out that despite the God Hand are nearly Gods, you dont see them tossing a fireball at Guts. In fact, they dont lift a finger during the apostle ceremony in volume 3.

The God Hand are spiritual entities that manipulate (or simply oversee) Fate. Thats pretty much all we know. This is cited in volume 18 by Skully. And though Ill prolly get banned from my own bbs for the sheer horrendosity of it, Ill cite Aclimate Solutions translation of the scene (parts of it anyway):

Starting on page 198 of Volume 18:

Skully: "You know I always stand against evil. My purpose has always been the same."
Guts: "You mean that THEY'RE around?!"
Skully: "Or, their boss. My aim is also your aim."
Guts: "What? What the hell is that supposed to mean?! You mean the God Hand are in the tower?" [tower of albion]
Skully: They are everywhere in the world. If they find evil in a human's mind, they will appear. But, because they have such a great spirit, they can't have bodies in the real world"

As for Griff's powers? Just like the above, we don't know a whole lot. So far we've seen him perform 3 'miracles' (even THESE are debateable)

  • 1) Swooped down from a great distance away and saved Casca from falling boulders. (ch 182)
  • 2) Dodged Kushan arrows (ch 185?)
  • 3) Was able to summon souls of the dead for a short period of time (ch 195)
  • 3.5 [hard to classify]) Was able to gather and govern Apostles under an army...

Despite all of this, Zodd seemed to play an important role in all of this. Especially at Griffith's reincarnation ceremony (ch175-176). If Griff is so powerful, what does he need Zodd there for? My personal assertions are as follows:

  • a) Griff didn't want to show off his powers on so great an audience (Berserk readers included) ... yet
  • b) Griff physicall (spiritually?) couldn't use any of his "powers" yet. They had to be manifested.
  • c) He chose Zodd as his servant merely for the intimidation that follows with his name.
  • d) Griff had no say, nor motivation. Zodd's purpose is to accompany the next reincarnated God Hand. His 'charge' if you will. It sure would explain the "ultimate strong one" fiasco.

Bring it on debaters.

This website uses the kabbalistic code that more or less calculates how your personality is, according to your name. I found this website through an IRC chat, where the channel was disussing how inaccurate the kabbalistic explanation of "god" and "lucifer" were...

However, upon inspection, this website is almost frighteningly accurate. I looked up "Gaiseric" first, and check this out:

Your name Gaiseric gives you a strong sense of responsibility in business and material affairs, and the practicality and determination to make a success of anything you undertake. Your ability to organize and direct the efforts of others enables you to excel in any managerial position because you have the ability to grasp the concept of a goal complete with an understanding of the steps to be taken.

Another scary one:

The name of Void creates a quick, analytical, and clever mind; you are creative, versatile, original, and independent. You have large ambitions, and it is difficult for you to be tolerant and understanding of those who desire less in life or who are more slow and methodical by nature. Patience is not your forte. You do, however, have leadership ability and would never be happy in a subservient position.

And just for the fuck of it, heres Nobuo Uematsu's (Final Fantast composer):

Your first name of Nobuo has given you a practical, logical, analytical approach to life and a great deal of patience. You enjoy working at anything of a mechanical or technical nature, and believe that what is worth doing is worth doing well. When you are interested in a project, you concentrate all your thoughts on it and do not appreciate being interrupted.

It got to the point where I would just assume it would be accurate, and then typed in my own name...lo and behold it was pretty fuqin accurate. It was even able to predict this weird medical problem I have...

Oh and just in case you were wondering, Olivier's isnt very accurate (In my opinion...doh!)

Can you say, Pirate? Yarr. I know that I can, matey.

Yarr...where be me booty? Anyway, this guy not only blatantly stole the current chapters, he took all of sections 1, and 2 of the FAQ and threw it on his site, with some damned nifty character pics (which I cant say anything negative about unfortunately)...and yes, without my permission. and YES this is a bitch fest.

He DID however, make original screen captures for the anime from apparently the original DVD source. Im happy for those, and the images in the character sections...HOWEVER, the rest...We will discuss.

If you havent payed any attention to the news, The World Trade Center, or the Twin Towers as some call them have been destroyed by 2 757's that plowed their way through the buildings early this morning.  The pentagon's army division was also destroyed, (taking up about 1/5 of the pentagon itself) I personally am still stunned, and have been watching the news for the past 6 hours.

On a more comical note, President Bush has informed us that he will "get those folks".

How reassuring...

My friend Dboykun (the guy who coded the old BBS here) just informed me of this:

"There were reports of gunfire in celebration of the attacks in Lebanon, home to some 360,000 Palestinian refugees.", Im really a big fan of humanity right now.

...after the last comments that Walter, and Cronus, and Oliver said...

...well, what can I say... comment, I have never seen idiots like this Board Administrator...

Im sure most of you have seen the  atrocity that is Paradiselost's apparent attempt at revenge, or some sort of LAST CHANCE move on virtually every post in this board. We are most likely going to ban him today, however...We would like your approval. He is,  of cource a part of the community and NONE OF US want this to become some sort of group where people are punished for speaking their mind. Its just that Paradiselost has been extremely excessive for months in flagrantly accusing native-speaking english Americans of bad english, claiming that Olivier needs to further understand Berserk and become more educated (although indirectly complementing him with a double negative in the same post) and generally becomeing a disturbance on the board.

THe point of this post is...Who agrees with the admin's on the banning decision? We want this to be a community decision. We will require 20 responses in favor of Paradiselost's ban in order to take action against it.

Otherwise, it would just be a select group of people not wanting to hear his posts anymore. And thats just unfair. So, state your agreeances, or disputes here.

Shootin' the Breeze / Biggest Change Ever...
« on: October 03, 2001, 08:26:05 AM »
A while back, days after we were virtually forced to ban Paradiselost, I got an email that said:

...hi Wally...

...I'm sorry you took your idiot decision...

...however, I'll respect it, no problem...

...but, I really hope you'll be able to respct my next decision, boy...

...I'm really sorry...

... what's a pity...

Today I got this email.

Which means, bye bye to scans. Im not even going to attempt to go against Hakusensha, they fully have the right to take legal action against me. Personally Im very satisfied with this, since all I have to do is remove scans. It was bound to happen one day, however...I think its safe to say that you can blame Paradiselost for contacting Hakusensha, since he had contacted them a few weeks earlier about the relevance of "Chapter 83". Yes, it is safe to blame Paradiselost for ruining the fun for everyone.

Oh and on a completely seperate note, email is:

PS: Yes it really was Hakusensha, the mail came from the PR guy

Shootin' the Breeze / Quasi-Neo Board

As you indefinately have noticed, the board has been updated. If anyone has any weird errors, dont hesitate to IM me. Hope you all like the changes! Im still tweaking it myself...

Oh, and for the next day or so, dont write any Thesis's because the board will be going on and offline very VERY often.

However, just to give you a general estimate of when to post and when NOT to post:

Legend of Galactic Heroes (LoGH for short), has long been one of my favorite series. It is a space war/political drama that feels more unique than anything I have ever experienced on the wonderful machine known as Television. I am not exaggerating. However, I dread to claim its my favorite series, mostly because it would be ludicrous since I run a Berserk site. But seriously, if you have not seen this series, I beg you to. ( ) That is, only if you are a fan of war drama. If your favorite aspects of berserk are the number of intestines that fly out of someones body when Guts smacks them, I severely advise you to stay away, from both me and the series.

To the point: Since 1996-1997, there have only been 42 out of ~100 eps fansubbed/translated. Adding to the frustration is the fact that Episode 42 leaves you on one of the largest cliffhangers of the series. This is an atrocity. I have searched for years, high and low hoping for more translations. What is even more frustrating is the fact that there is an extremely large fan base of the series, its just that 99/100 of them dont speak japanese, and those that do, arent willing to translate. It is truly a sad state of affairs.

Ultimately what Im asking is whether or not there are some LoGH fans out there, and are familiar with the above frustration. If so, leave a message! Id love to talk with fellow LoGH fans.
