Speculation Nation / Re: What kind of ENDING you hope you will NOT see?
« on: December 14, 2017, 10:48:18 PM »
I'll probably get shit for this, but I don't want Guts to kill Griffith in a final rage induced fight to the death, having Guts learn throughout the story that revenge is bad, and learn to let go of his bloodlust to protect those he cares about, only to grant him revenge would contradict everything he went through, and it would mean a certain evil beast  :beast: would be proven right.

I also hope the world doesn't snap back to normal in the end, there may even be worse things to come, but I would hope that the howl of the astral world does lasting damage to civilisation.

My last hope isn't really to do with the ending, but I hope to see a lot more of the God Hand in the future, the root cause behind all of the supernatural events up until this point deserve more than simply being relegated to members of Griffiths team of baddies.

Whoop tee doo Berserk: in ColourTM!

I hope it gets a decent volume print, whatever it is.

Yeah, we need to adjust our gauge a little bit when examining ability in the world in Berserk and using reality as reference. Their strongest humans will always be greater than our strongest.

I'm pretty sure prime Muhammad Ali could beat a Tapasa in a fight.

I'm very late to this party, but I recently finished Nier Automata, (Not ending E, I don't know if that counts). For someone who has never touched the Nier franchise, it doesn't bog you down with exposition from previous games, it's by in large its own story, except for Emil the weird omnipotent ball creature. I liked the story, it doesn't entirely make sense, but I thought it was effective, two armies of robots who hate each other despite being the same, fighting a proxy war that no longer matters, and can't break out of their cycle because they can't think of doing anything else. I like how it gives you half truths on your first run and fills in the blanks later. Something I thought was funny/effective was bringing back gag characters for  boss battles, namely the robot who tries to make an older brother robot by resurrecting him with oil . The combat and the boss battles were great, as expected of a Platinum game, I especially liked the ball tanks and the opera singer, but like Platinum games I've played, most of the environments feel dull and lifeless, there are exceptions, like the white tower and the amusement park, but by in large the open world environment fell flat for me.

Guts does kind of fit in to the Monomyth archetype, he's a mercenary through tradgic circumstance loses his friends and becomes cursed, and he goes on a journey of revenge, it's not a call to adventure, but it is a journey, and I suppose SK is his mentor stand in.

About Guts lineage, Guts' dad may have been a mercenary who raped his mother, or perhaps his Parents were normal and his warrior genes were dormant unitil they were passed down to Guts (That's not how genetics works MrFlibble). I don't think it matters, Berserk is a very tight story, and we're only shown what needs to be shown, I wonder about who Griffiths parents were too, but actually seeing these characters would take away from the idea of Guts and Griffith coming from nothing.

Sweet, bring on 2020!

Avoid the fanbase for the most part. It's toxic as hell and kind of ruins the show.

Is there any fanbase that doesn't have a subgroup of morons?

Manga Mausoleum / Volume 39's cover slip
« on: September 29, 2017, 02:14:32 PM »
Sorry if this has been brought up before, but the creature in vol 39's margin looks really weird, it's the size of an elf, but it has white hair and purple skin, and it doesn't seem to have wings, and the mushroom creatures surrounding it haven't appeared either, I wonder if it will play a role in the future, just like the foreshadowing of the cherry blossom tree in volume 38's cover margin.

Puck says "fuck you" to the confines of reality. He'll reference popular culture from outside his universe, because he doesn't give a shit.

Trying and failing to kick my Breath of the Wild addiction, with my Master Sword upgraded I can make mince meat of Golden Lynels, but I wont be satisfied until I can kill Vaati, Majora, Zant, Ghirahim, Ganon, Demise, Aghanim and Bellum in a single sword stroke.

Fanfic? You better accustom yourself to the idea that the tv show will become canon. I highly doubt the series will have an ending in written form, and supposedly GRRM wants it to die with him (which makes sense), so no writer can touch it after he's gone.

There is no way in hell the Sandsnakes taking over Dorne by exterminating the Martell bloodline will become canon.

This show is devolving more and more into fanfic as time goes on, it's clear the writers are completely lost without GRRM holding their hand, why is it unethical to take Kings Landing with dragons, but okay to besiege the city, condemning thousands to a slower death by starvation? Why is Theon going through yet another Reek redemption arc? he's shed his Reek persona several times now, why is Danerys completley fine with recruiting Varys after he admits to attempting to kill her, and not being especially loyal to anybody, a confrontation they should have had before they even sailed to Dragonstone.

The deeper we went with the initial summary that was posted, the less it held up. I wouldn't put too much stock into it, particularly details like this.

Indeed, I hope it's fake.

I'm ambivalent to the idea of Grunbeld becoming an anti hero apostle that saved his people, part of being an apostle is severing your ties to humanity, apostles don't help people. After all, how does Grunbeld feel about flooding his old homeland with hordes of monsters?

For example I'm surprised no one is talking about what the monsters in this episode suggest: that Casca is probably not going to want to immediately resume any kind of romantic relationship when she's restored. Not that it wasn't obvious to begin with, but I think this episode cemented it. People have been fantasizing about the Skull Knight's warning to Guts for years, but really, that simple fact would more than fit the bill.

I don't think there's much evidence for that, Casca in her current state is hostile towards men, but there's no reason why Casca would still be like that when her mind is restored, plus it seems like overkill for her to still carry the weight of her trauma with her after she recovered from that very same trauma. Not that I'm expecting her to be all sunshine and rainbows after being insane for four years

But before getting to that they need to resolve the trauma and as I've mentioned before I feel like they aren't much closer to doing it than they were 4 episodes ago. They do know a good deal about Casca's past now, of course, which is essential to helping her out.

I would have least thought, by this time they would have known who Griffith was and what he meant to Casca (they haven't even any memories of him in his tortured state yet,) it's going to get even more confusing when they see him in his God Hand form.

And of course aside from all that there's the matter of Farnese and Schierke's own well-being. It's been made clear they're facing actual danger and I frankly have no idea how they'll get through the memory of the rape. Would Danan be able to shield them from the worst of it? Schierke's so young, and Farnese's mental resilience isn't the strongest... I can't imagine they wouldn't be traumatised if they were to experience it normally. Would Farnese shield Schierke from it and bear the trauma alone? It would be exceptionally brave of her, but also quite risky. As they have been warned, as as we've seen before, being hurt in there could have consequences on their real bodies... There's no telling what form that would take though. A scar? A discolored eye? I wonder.

They have witnessed violent rape before in Qliphoth. so it won't be an alien experience for them, then again this time they're not only witnessing it, they'll be experiencing Casca's emotions too, all of that trauma will be imprinted on them.

I am interseted in what she will think of Griffith after this though, I'm not one of the conspiritards who thinks Casca is going to flock to Griffith's side, but I don't think she has the capacity to hate him with the same intensity as Guts, he was after all the second most important man in her life, and she may be a vital to convincing Guts to forgive Griffith, if that ever happens.

Which brings me to another tangent, this all puts Griffith in a very vulnerable position, if Guts discovers from Casca that the moonlight boy is indeed his son and sharing a body with Griffith, then Griffith has just handed his greatest enemy knowledge about his only weak spot.

I just hope that this whole event of curing Casca won't be limited to going through her memories. So far it's kinda uneventful and it's pretty generic for what it is. Think about it - healing Casca should be way more complex than just a sequence of memories we all know. Sure we learn some stuff (somewhat) but I don't think this is what people were really hyped for. Hopefully the last fragment is going to mean the whole new challenge for Schierke and Farnese. Something that makes this journey unforgettable.

Hopefully the final fragment will be a more difficult challenge, after all it is the event that drove Casca mad, and it is something she will have to come to terms with, since they're out of talismans, I'm hoping the sprite Casca will play a role in overcoming the eclipse.

These are the illustrations from the novel.

Credits go to Ryu Osaka

Love his chariot, I'd hate to be chased by that sight  :magni:. as implied by Mule, Grunbeld's beherit seems to have been activated by his mortal wounds on the battlefield, although I didn't expect Grunbeld's sacrifice to be a female friend. In the last image Grunbeld, also seems to be wreaking vengeance against his comrade after sacrificing the girl, and the female knight in the other three pictures appears to be dead or unconscious, makes me wonder what enmity has torn these characters apart. I do hope Miura doesn't gloss over any of this when Grunbeld's past is revealed in the manga.

I know that in recent times Miura hasn't done any significant changes to episodes in the volume release but i was hoping he might touch up episode 347. That episode looks worse than any other episode from the last few years, very unpolished.

I agree, the facial expressions in that episode are hideous.

Overall I feel a little let down by the corridor of dreams sequence, the art and the drama is stunning as usual, however we are at the last memory peice and neither Farnese nor Schierke seem to have had much difficulty getting this far, every time they face a horde of monsters they summon their dream artifacts to kill them, neither them nor the dog have sustained any injuries or setbacks so far.

Holy shit, Farnese and Schierke are fighting cock monsters. So much for "Berserk is too lighthearted, Miura doesn't have it in him anymore," that whiny edge lords always claim.

"Oh my god the latest volumes are set in a quasi utopia and an Elfen paradise isolated from the rest of the world, where's the rape and gore?1!, also Isn't the story getting slow?, all we've had so far is the reveal of Elfhelm, the Flowerstorm ruler, Casca's curing and revelation of what the Spiral Tree really is"

Not conciously, yet despite their protests they care for some reason. *shrug*

I'm actually getting worried it'll be over too soon now that we know Miura isn't bluffing with this Casca thing. Guts has berserk armor, Griffith has his kingdom, Casca's getting her mind back... there's not a lot left on the major to-do list but to tie it all up the loose ends and put those three (or more depending on how you count Griff =) in the same room together.

Like you said , there are still a ton of plot threads yet to be resolved.

-The God Hands goal, or their wherabouts
-The role "God" plays in the Berserk universe
- Griffith's coronation and overall goal
- :SK: origin and the God Hand's history
- Guts' beherit
- The moonlight boy
- Rickert/Daiba/Bakiraka shenanigans
- The role the time disparity will play in the overall story
- Guts and the beast of darkness
- the individual arcs of each supporting character
- Theresa's final battle with Guts

Miura has plenty on his plate to keep him slaving for a few more decades.
