Shootin' the Breeze / Olivier, do the damn interview already!
« on: March 25, 2002, 01:06:16 PM »
Hey kids, who wants to see an interview with real life translator and TOTAL BADASS Olivier Hague?! This guy IS the infamous TRANSLATOR who single handedly drove paradiselost out of with his awesome powers! Donít believe me? Check out this classic exchange:

Paradise: ď friend, I like much more Paradiselost like seems to me that it's much more representative about myself... ;)

Olivier: ďIf only you could get _lost_, indeed...Ē

Paradise: ď...please, Olivier, don't be offensive, ok?Ē

Olivier: ďFuck you.Ē

Paradise: " :'( "

Hahahahahaha! That gets funnier every time I see it! This motherfucker (your mother that is) doesnít take shit from anybody! He eats Green Berets for breakfast! He spends every afternoon chilling in Boobie Land Paradise and his true identity may very well be Kentarou Miura himself! And dammit, wouldnít you all love to see an interview with him (how else will we find out the truth about this mysterious and shady character)?

P.S. Heís FRENCH! ^____^

I wonder if they'll do the Hulk next.. That be hilarious!! :D Imagine the dialogue.

X: <insert boring speech here about lab equipment.>
Hulk: "Hulk SMASH!!"
X: Oh no!
Hulk: "Hulk SMASH!!"

Ahhh... I crack myself up :P But really I wouldn't mind a Batman, Daredevil, or umm.. Wolverine movie ;D Although they need to redo the X-men movie (PLEASE!)

You're funny. ;)

Daredevil is also filming as we speak.

Anyway, Iím writing a comparison of the Spider-Man movie to the comics for the school newspaper. Itís not a review of the film per se, but a commentary on the differences and I guess what I think of Ďem.  Itís already been discussed here to an extent, but if you have anything you felt was really significant and want it addressed, go ahead and share it (I canít remember everything and Iím not about to tamper with my mint condition comics =).  Right now Iím mainly going to Focus on the changes made to Goblinís character, the ďcoolnessĒ of his costume in the movie (I felt like I was ordering a cheeseburger during the close ups), and the crux of the whole thing will of course be Gwen Stacy *tears up just a bit*. Itís not going to be negative by any means, but I will have fun playing the critical, pseudo-intellectual fanboy . ;D

P.S. And Donít worry anyone, Iíll mention web cartridges, but Iím not making a big deal of it since I donít even care myself.

Hereís an exclusive picture of the Venom costume we'll see in Spiderman 2Ö

"My mouth may not move, but I'm going to eat your brain, web-head!"

Vin Diesel is going to play Eddie Brock, with Anthony Hopkinís voice duel tracked with his during the Venom scenes.  Cletus Kasady is going to be portrayed by Carrot Top, but you'll have to wait until Spidey 3 to see that.

I like it dirty.

Iíll be happy to make a proper defense when Iíve heard an adequate attack, so you nay sayers loose your barbed tongues and let us dance, I look forward to it. What sort of attacks can I expect, ďI NOO GOTS THE STORAY, GAME VRY BAD< WAREZ SCHADOW AND INTERCEPTOR?!Ē You see, I find the biggest strike against FFVII is that many people didnít understand the intricacies of the plot due to the gameís poor translation andÖhow to put this delicately, their own ďlimiting factorsĒ.  I think thatís why FFVIIIís script was kept simple to the point that every character essentially had the same back story; what a colorful, encompassing, and diverse world Square painted with that one (just like the awesome FF movie). Anyway, the real issue here appears to be that nobody can even defend VIII poorly (the only possible way). The best attempt by anyone has been to ham handedly change the subject (a good idea frankly, all this FFVIII talk will give me nightmares, ďHelp, the story is collapsing right on top of me!Ē).  By the way, these silent detractors of FFVII, what do they think of VIII? Iím just curious. ;D

« on: May 26, 2002, 08:24:09 PM »
Perhaps so, but Iíd say stepping away from FFVIII in any direction is automatically a plus; itís an inescapable sinkhole of role-playing game mediocrity.  A completely streamlined, straight-forward, mass-market RPG designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Donít believe me? You need look no further than the simplified interface, paper thin plot, and of course, the awful, awful characters (with the exception of Luguna Loire); it was like playing Final Fantasy 90210. If you want me to elaborate on my claims, Iíd be more than happy to, but if youíre really an avid FFVIII fanÖI donít recommend it.

P.S. In itís defense, the opening FMV was quite impressive. ;)

No, you're all wrong, it's Chrono Trigger.

P.S. Though, FFVII is my personal favorite.

Shootin' the Breeze / Re: Episode II
« on: May 28, 2002, 12:55:46 PM »
Itís never elaborated on, but the context and emotional undercurrent was Luke asking about his own mother. Leia described her as being very beautiful, but also very sad, the implication there is obvious.  So at the moment, to that end, in that movie, it was definitely supposed to be her real Mother Leia was talking about.  But like I said, Lucas might just edit that out later and add an Ewok lightsaber battle in itís place. =)

« on: May 28, 2002, 10:49:57 AM »
If you remember, in ROTJ Leia has childhood memories of her mother and her death (it was one of those subtle moments the new movies have no time for). So it would seem that Anakin turns before she dies, though I wouldnít put it past Lucas to contradict himself again, actually, I wholly expect it.  Thereís a lot to deal with in this next flick; Anakinís going to the dark side, his relationship with Obi-Wan and Padme, the fall of the Jedi, the beginning of the Empire and of course the Clone Wars.  It could either be the best one or the worst depending on if Lucas focuses on Anakinís struggle or instead decides to give us Chewbaccaís backstory.

You made the right decision in yours even when you had the nerve to call that person your 'true love' and still think about slamming the beach chick. There would be no question for me.

I know, the irony was not lost on me, my friend.

Whatever major decision your gonna make, I hope you make the right one and for the right reasons.

P.S. My true love is sure lucky I dream "unprepared", hyuk hyuk. :D

Check out this dreamI had last nightÖ

Iím at the beach, where I hook with this toasted hottie. Iím leading her down some dunes and itís pretty much understood that weíre going to screw like drunken manatees. †So I got her down in the sand and start getting to work when I realizeÖshit, no rubber! Yeah, itís a dream, but I didnít know that! †So here I am scrambling for a solution; this girl wasnít exactly a virgin and I might as well have been sticking my prick in Pandoraís box rather than hers. †I continue having fun but she's all but passed out by now and I need to make a decision quick before time runs out. To complicate matters further, this fucking sea monster shows up out of nowhere and starts throwing a shit fit. †Iím not talking some lame ass Kraken or loch ness bitch, this thing is a 300 foot long crab/snapping turtle cyborg covered in containment hatches, it looked like some kind of fucking aquatic Transformer. †So now Iím distracted by this thing raising holy hell just down the cliffs; I mean, it really looked cool! †I go back to fondling this beach babe and am basically leaning towards going for itÖthen my stupid friends attack the sea monster (or it attacks them, whatever, my point is they shouldnít have been there in the first place)! †They start calling for me to come help and it all seems like fun, but I still needed to get my rocks off! †All of a sudden, the monster has my true love in itís clutches (no, not the girl Iím with). †Sheís screaming her head off for help and Iíve got a choice to make:

1. † † †Save true love.

Dammit, this was tough. †Lots of things started going through my mind; did I have time to screw this babe before saving my true love? †How much do I really love this ďtrue loveĒ of mine? If she really loves me, why is she being kidnapped by monsters instead of here with me? †Those sure feel great, donít they? Am I total shit for even thinking about it this long? Anyway, I decided to fight the cool monster. †I donít know what happened to olí whatsherface or to the girl on the beach, but I do know that I kicked that monsterís ass!

P.S. In retrospect, I would have done the chick first.

Okay, hereís another dream of mine, I suggest you all post your own. †This oneís about a year old, but I transcribed it on some note paper after waking up in order to preserve it, for no apparent reason.

Iím at a random high school, itís modeled after my own but is new me. I buy some skittles and everyone around seems to know me in a sinister way. †Feeling uneasy, I go into the health office where I meet Chris E., a fat guy who is trying to escape and needs my help. †His legs are chained to a bed and I suggest we cut them off. †He doesnít like this idea too much but before we know it this Nazi chick has the drop on us. †She has short blonde hair, about chin level, partly covering her icy blue eyes on the right side and she wears a sleek black uniform. †Chris is killed outright but I make my escape. †She's running on top of the office buildings blazing away at me with an Uzi while I slip through the quad area. †I bust through a door and suddenly find myself somewhere altogether new. †Iím exiting a large mansion with the Lakers, apparently they are my comrades in arms. †Itís around sunset, weíre walking on a beach next to a jungle, talking about our victory against the Nazis. †Iím specifically walking with Rick Fox and Kobe Bryant and conversation is subtly slipping into basketball/war metaphors. †When we talk about the preceding victory they even hint at winning the NBA championship with a wink. †Another strange thing, while talking on the beach everything is echoing like we are in the mountains. †When Kobe and I speak, our echo sounds exactly alike, he thinks this is very strange. †We enter the jungle and our voices echo normally. Not far into the bush we meet up with some more comrades of mine all dressed in fatigues. They're attempting to scale a thirty or so foot cliff using a fallen tree. †One of them explains how it should be done quietly in great detail. †As soon as he is finished, we are attacked by two evil Nazi teens in black uniforms standing on top of the cliff. †One of them has black hair and a pale, chiseled visage. †He mocks us and kills many of my comrades. †I throw a piece of cinderblock at him but miss because the thing is so damn heavy. †He retaliates by throwing a brick, but since I ran away as soon as I threw the cinderblock, there was no way he could tag me. †I block the remaining barrage of bricks by holding the first brick over my face. †This is when I come to the realization, quite dramatically, that I must kill to survive! †Now Iím entering another Mansion in a swamp (I assume I got past the teens and the cliff somehow, probably using the tree). †I enter a long hallway, like something out of Resident Evil, where I encounter a soldier that looks just like porn icon Ron Jeremy! †He reaches for his gun, and having learned my lesson of war back at the cliff, I grab him by the throat before he can shoot. †I watch him very closely the entire time, I see the desperate look on his face begin to fade, the depression in his eyes, until finally he lets out a sigh. †I choke him until I am I satisfied he is dead. †But he isnít dead! In desperation I start strangling him again, though Iím not even holding his neck but the fat of his chin and face. †He looks at me like Iím a total moron and suddenly he turns into Danny DeVito. †He begins babbling on about movies, all the while we remain in our respective positions, me holding on to the lower part of his head. †He notices some shirt Iím wearing, itís a promotional shirt for a movie. I donít remember the full name but it had the word ďGlitchĒ in the title. †He says it caused a scene to be cut from a movie because Richard Dryfus, or just ďDryfusĒ as he called him with contempt, wore it during the filming. †Suddenly, I have a flashback of the cliff scene from earlier, only now a young Richard Dryfus is standing in place of me wearing the shirt. †As DeVito speaks it cuts to another scene of Dryfus at a ball of sorts still wearing the shit, along with a tuxedo. †DeVito starts rambling bitterly about how stupid Dryfus and someone else (possibility the director) was for not noticing the shirt. †Then DeVito disappears and Iím strangling my dog, so I stopped. Thatís the end, but hereís the weird part of itÖWhy werenít ALL the scenes cut since Dryfus (I) had the shirt on the whole time? I mean, doesn't that seem a little off to you?

Don't worry about it, it's up now.

And since I donít want to do two total BS posts in a rowÖ

Concerning Zoddo in the theory, I think itís best served he not be mentioned specifically, itís just another variable since he isnít crucial to making it work. †Itís not like there isnít room for him. †For all we know, Zoddo was one of the Arch-Apostles created by Void and he whipped Gaisericís ass. †Or, heís just 300 years old (a child really) as Olivier said.

According to this, elves are "Idea's" opposite, right? †It explains why everything deriving from elves has a "bipolar" affect on everything to do with "Idea"...(ex. Goddo's cave, Flora's magic).

Elves may be opposite to Idea, but that doesnít mean they are equal forces in the Universe.

P.S. Olivier, getting back to the roots of this thread, are there any new and interesting theories floating around the Japanese boards these days?

Well, I hate to say it, but I didnít think it was all that bad, maybe I just went in with low expectations.  I donít know if itís something Iíd like to see happen in the manga, but as a theory (rather than a foretelling) I think itís very good.  It delves into things I havenít seen in other theories, the Beherits, origin of Apostles, itís more about God Hand than it is Gaiseric (perhaps we focus on him a bit too much).  And why should it (if true) drive anyone from Berserk?  Gaisericís story in relation to the rest Berserk is just a subplot.  Whatever your take on this thing, good or bad, itís interesting nonetheless and Iím sure what Miura puts out will be different.  I like it simply because one can derive a lot of new ideaís from it, and I think we should examine those ideaís rather than putting them away.

P.S. What can I say? It excites me.

Hey Olivier, Iím curious about the Japanese Berserk Message Boards. †Do they have a bunch of different theories from ours? †For instance, whatís their take on Locus and the upcoming chapters? What are their big theories on what happened with Gaiseric & God Hand and other important events?

Shootin' the Breeze / Re: I will kill you all.... I mean, hello.
« on: July 02, 2002, 09:35:39 AM »

Where'd I leave it? Goddamn, I knew it must have slipped past the edits somehow. †:-X

Whoa! I just thought you just didnít care. †Check out the timeline (Gattís Timeline) and especially the anime section. It has some real good Guts/Guts stuff, hereís one of my favorite passages:

ďÖFor starters, the tournament fight in the anime involves Guts and Valencia, a veteran of the 100-Year War. But in the manga, there are two fights and the first one is between Valencia and Silatt, the Kushan Warrior. Silatt easily beats Valencia, and directly afterwards, Guts butts into the tournament and challenges Silatt. Guts defeats Silatt with ease. After the fight, the Castle Lord who hosted the tournament inadvertantly informs Guts of the fate that has befallen the Hawks, now being led by Casca. In the anime, Guts simply went on his own after turning down the Lord's offer to join himÖĒ

Heís called Guts half a dozen more times in that summary before heís finally called Guts again; the last time he's mentioned in closing sentence. That was always like the punchline for me. ;D

Shootin' the Breeze / Getting Serious About Getting YA
« on: July 01, 2002, 01:11:38 PM »
If weíre going to get the scans flowing plentifully around here again, weíre going to have to really focus and go all out.  I think weíre all just waiting for them to appear Godot-style and thatís going to lead us nowhere. First things firstÖ

Does anybody think they can get access to current YA chapters?

If you think you can get YA or scans anywhere, even just theoretically, try to follow it up and see where it
leads. Remember, it doesnít matter if you get scans from a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend, as long you can get them to me. ;)

Iím hoping 1 out of the 800 of you can provide and be the undying hero of the board, forever celebrated in the songs and poems we write about your greatness.

Rather than subscribing to YA if you can't, why not just order the current volumes from and at least get the scans from those volumes for the time being, then deal with someone getting a subscribtion to YA and willing enough to scan the future chapters for the community.   ;)
Iíve got a better idea, weíll get scans for the current YA chapters, and buy the volumes individually! ;)

Shootin' the Breeze / Sad State of Affairs Indeed.

Well, a whole lotís been happening in the Berserk community latelyÖoh, no wait, nothingís been happening at all actually, nothing relating to Berserk anyway. The events of the story may be more important than ever right now; Kentarou Miuraís world is coming into full view but we certainly arenít seeing it. Rather than generating theories and speculation at this, what should be, exciting time, the board has become a strange gathering place for buffoons (myself included) the world over; a rogues gallery of Berserk fans now and former rambling incoherently about random bullshit and bitching about the fantasy content of series. We decide whether a chapter ďtotally suckedĒ or not based a second hand description thatís only a few sentences long. Do we even attempt to look beyond the surface anymore, are we trying to understand the implications of anything? More information on the Berserk world is being revealed than ever, even the coveted Chapter 83 didnít get this explicit, and still all people can do is make cheap AD&D jokes and lameass MS Paint Berserk covers because all we focus now on are the set pieces.  Itís gotten to the point where paradiselost is not only welcome, but missed.  Shit people, letís pull our heads out of our asses, take a look around, and ask ourselves what weíre doing here? The world of Berserk is blooming and we are finally being given the chance to understand how it truly works on every level, the Berserk DVDís have just been released in the United Sates, and Berserk Volume 23 is coming out tomorrow.  There is no excuse, the Berserk community should be bigger and healthier than ever, so why is it in a coma?

ďBut Griff, Miura has made Berserk teh fantasy AD&D LOTRís garbage!Ē

EAT A BAG OF HELL! This series has had fairy dust and elves in it from day one.  Itís had a Minotaur with wings. Itís had a 300-pound skeleton fullback with a rose sword and matching shield, and a horse that can fucking fly.  Itís had a main character known throughout the land as the BLACK SWORDSMAN who wields the DRAGONSLAYER, how about the whole Goddamn Lost Choldren arcÖdo I need to continue?  I donít care how blind you were to it before, thatís just as much fucking fantasy as enchanted weapons and witches. How come nobody ever noticed or complained about all this fantasy shit before the Lord of the Rings movie came out? Miura has presented us with the antithesis of God Hand and instead of examining it weíre only complaining about how it doesnít match with the rest of the series. No shit, I guess he did a good job.

ďBut Griff, we donít have teh scans!Ē

FUCK OFF!  Iím not buying it anymore. Are you telling me that out of 800 members worldwide there isnít one person that can get access to scans?  Trust me, I want them just as much as anybody else, and I have no intention of waiting for Volume 24 to see things unfold further. If I have to, Iíll take the cash I put aside for the DVDs, order a subscription to YA instead, and scan the damn chapters myself, just let me know.
