I got to see (alright, so I played with it!) the Hawks Soldiers Guts; and it was simply amazing! Looked BETTER than the statue version (though the sword was a bit shorter, maybe correctly so, it was just as long as his body and fit on his back perfectly) and was just one hell of a high quality figure, not to mention only a third of the cost! Simply fantastic.

Two Words that would make me cream my pants: ZODD TOY!

Yong puzzles me to no end, so many positives yet so many negatives, itís like heís two different people (sometimes even four ;D)

I still wonder why he never just put Walter and Skullyís names in his credits section, even if he refuses to take down their respective material.

P.S. Blatantly off-topic, but has anyone seen Icefallís Berserk page in progress? Itís looking really good.

Geez, canít a man innocently jest about copulating with an inflatable Slann doll without bringing every sicko and pervoid out of the woodwork?

How much air will this Slann figure require exactly? I think I'll buy a pump.

Yeah, the domestics. A friend of mine has the import version of Hawks Soldiers Guts and there is virtually no difference between the figures themselves, only the box and the nifty stands that come with the imports (but mine are for playiní, not a lookiní ;D). I ordered mine from Anime Nation.

I finally got some of the Berserk toys I ordered, just wanted to say that these things are great!  You can get four of these for less than the price of one statue and these are BETTER!  Especially impressive is the Black Swordsman, itís an incredibly high detailed, fully pose able action figure of Guts with all his Black Swordsman gear, need I say more?
I only wish the cannon actually fired.

-Griffith

P.S. The Casca and Griffith havenít arrived yet, so I canít speak for their quality, but both Guts toys, I mean, collectable figures, are well worth the 20 bucks.

Thatís odd, I downloaded the Phemt one just recently.

Oh well, try this video instead, itís really good, based of a great Escaflowne video from Maboroshi Studios.  The guy from Maboroshi was originally going to use Berserk but didnít have the source footage, so he did one on the Esca movie instead.  This guy decided to go ahead and do the Berserk one.

Check out these cool Berserk videos from Turboneko Studio if you havenít seen them already.  Instead of putting random clips to the rhythm of the music or representing a general theme from the story through lyrics, the Turboneko crew retells a specific part of the story through extremely focused vignettes.  If you like Berserk for the action these might not be your bag, the action in these vids is the emotional kind, if that makes any sense to you.

Title: Snow
Music: Tears In Rain by Joe Satriani

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/video.php?v=3456

Focuses on Guts leaving the Hawks and Cascaís developing feelings for him.

Title: Phemt
Music: Bare Island by Hans Zimmer

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/video.php?v=4771

Focuses mainly on Griffithís transformation into Femto (or Phemt in this case).  Really cool, especially the build up to the Eclipse and then the build up to Femtoís birth itself.

This is Bub, and if you can't tell already, heís one zombie you do not want to fuck with!

-Griffith

P.S. He could drop one of those Resident Evil fancy boys, with their sissy auto-aim and retarded zombies too stupid to open doors, in about the time it takes to say, ďHot shit! That zombie has a gun!Ē

And he knows how to shave. ;D

When I think of cannibalism I can not help but think of Zombies. They have this instinct that propels them to eat. Reminds me of a scene from Day of the Dead when they removed this one zombies stomach, his entire chest cavity was empty. Yet when "Dr. Frankenstein"( A pet name they gave the local quack) put his hand infront of the zombies mouth it tried to bite it even tho' it had no stomach or no reason to eat. It's that survival primal instinct to eat. Eat to live. I see it from that point of view. Is it evil? I lean more to the "No" side of it. Is it socially unacceptable and grotesque? Yeah. But it's all about survival.

I totally agree, funny that our opinion of Griffith and his actions are so different. By the way, all hail Bub!

In Berserk, I think that as well as representing evil, cannibalism also symbolizes an animalistic quality; it reinforces the idea that they are no longer human, almost as if it's not really cannibalism. It brings to mind Apostles, especially the way they feed on people at the ceremonies. †Also, didnít the Beast of Shadow refer to Casca as just a sacrifice for Griffith, and suggest that Guts kill her? †Soon after, heís possessed and tries to eat herÖcoincidence?

I'm sure he could pull it off. But It's hard for me to look at Hopkins playing someone who's NOT sophisticated.

Thatís a plus though, you see, Zodd is sophisticated among Apostles, and Hopkins would underscore the notion that Zodd is above them. ;D

Although the idea of having a voice cast that includes Christopher Lee and Anthony Hopkins is incredible.

Indeed, Christopher Lee as Void is about the best idea Iíve heard for voice casting of Berserk, perfect.

Why? It's like Anthony Hopkins playing Zorro. I don't see it.

Just look at Zoddís face when he stops Guts from cleaving Griffith in Volume 22, his, dialogue throughout the series, remember the fear he instilled, and donít forget when he was examining his life in volume 17. Imagine how his dialogue would sound in some burly growly snarl of a voice, just like any other dumb tough guy in the series; the ridiculous kind Guts kills all the time, Zodd should be different. I imagine Zodd sounding twisted, fierce, and evil, but just like you described Karloff, he should also command attention and respect with a touch of nobility.  I think Sir Anthony Hopkins could pull this off in spades.

I can say that that's the true nature of Griffith brought forth. He's completely embraced his dream regardless of the consequences. This is the one I call selfish. This is the one I can say is as close to evil as he can be. This is the one that sacrificed his men, ruined Guts's life and raped Casca.

Yes, but by the same token, couldnít you also say the Beast is Gutsí true nature brought forth, that heís completely embraced his hatred (even for Casca) regardless of the consequences?

Quote
As for Guts rape attemp of Casca I can say it's quite different from what Femto did to Casca. When Femto raped her he was in his right mind. Totally and 100% in control of his actions. That equated with the fact that their was obvious malice intent behind what he did. Guts' was not anywhere in his right mind.

True, but is that a practical comparison? In this situation, Guts shouldnít be likened to Femto, the Beast should be. The Beast is to Guts what Femto is to Griffith (as stressed in volume 16); a manifestation of the evil that dwells within him. Youíre comparison separates Gutsí and the Beastís actions, but still holds Griffith responsible for Femtoís; basically saying that Guts is innocent for the same reason Griffith is guilty.

I say, the Beast canít alibi Guts anymore than Femto can Griffith.

Does anyone get offended when I swear and/or talk trash to Griffith?

To the point where you modify the story as Miura has written, yes. I donít care if you trash Griffith or think heís a shithead, but donít cut his character short as just a bad guy that does bad thing because heís bad. †Griffith isnít just some malicious one-dimensional villain thatís out to hurt people, just like Guts, who is more than just a virtuous one-dimensional hero, heís a complex character with many layers and shades. I think their relationship throughout the rest of the series is going to be much more than just hero vs. villain, because they are both more than that, Miura said it himself, ďGuts and Griffithís relationship is only just beginningĒ. †So, they are definitely going to go through some complicated shit with each other. ;D

-Griffith

P.S. Zepec is Jillís lout of a father, but more than that, heís the Berserk everyman! †And Miura has already expressed great interest in NOT doing a story about him. Speaking of which, didnít Miura say he might do some short stories about Judeau and other members of the Hawks when the series is over (I think I remember Olivier mentioning this a while back).

Well, the other stuff Iím not even going to touch with a 10 foot pole, but thisÖ

Quote
......BUT being the dirty piece of shit that Griffith is, he doesn't handle losing easy so he screw everything up and then kills everybody to get back at Guts for his sick desire to see people suffer.

That is just a lie, Griffith always hated it that people suffered because of his dream, itís something Miura made a big point of.  Do people really need to accentuate the bad things Griffith has done with fallacies? I mean, itís pretty bad stuff on itís own merits.  Conversely, do people need to hide or deny the bad things Guts has done himself, I mean, nobody seems to care very much that he just TRIED TO RAPE CASCA!

Quote
Its good to see someone who understands the complexity of characters that Miura creates.

What complexity? Griffith is the original evil man and Guts is a motherfucking true blue super hero, fighting for justice and the Midland way! Griffith is like cancer, and Guts isÖuhh...whatever it is that cures cancer!! The last chapter of Berserk will be Guts stabbing Griffith in the back, then Guts will yell, ďGotchya Sucka!!!Ē, that will be the only dialogue in the chapter. Then it will say THE END in big letters, but with a question mark, so that Berserk 2: The Adventures of Zepec can come out! It will all be so meaningful, youíll shit your pants!
