The first I've heard of such a thing. One step closer to how it should be. :daiba:

I have no idea how their contract with Dark Horse is set up, but it would be great if this leads to the out of print volumes being made available in English online, so new fans have a way to be introduced to the series without being gouged on eBay or Amazon Marketplace.

So I explored this a little more and... wow, you guys. This is pretty exciting actually. Hakusensha is going for it. Check this out: http://www.ebookjapan.jp/ebj/title/27262.html

Volumes 1-30 are available for purchase via ebook in Japan, for about $50 for 10, or about $5 per volume. It makes you download a program, which is of course difficult to navigate if you aren't familiar with the language, but if you want to check it out, you can download a few samples of how it looks here: http://www.ebookjapan.jp/ebj/special/mini/YA2013.asp Click the grey button on each entry and it will download a file. Double click on the file and it will open in the ereader (which you presumably installed once prompted).

Inside, you'll be treated to|~50 pages of high-resolution images of volume 1 and 3, with a few color pages. To my knowledge, heretofore, these color pages were only to be found in the original Young Animal editions, and a few pages in one of the artbooks (Illustration File).

Here's a taste (click to enlarge):

Pretty exciting! After you've viewed a volume, it stores it in your profile, showing the spine of each thing you own. A pretty cool idea for a digital locker of these things. Looks like this:

Time will tell if this Japanese digital foray for Berserk will translate overseas. Still, after all the bad mojo earlier this year about sales, this is really fantastic news.

That's pretty cool! I might get them just for the sake of it. I wish there was a unified and more perennial service akin to what Steam does for video games though. What's Amazon been doing? They ought to step up to the plate.

No, there were published in color in the MBR editions, although some were missing in the later volumes.

Seems more than enough to me. Much bigger than a tankōbon.

While I understand how you could be disappointed that it's not some crazy 3000+ resolution, it doesn't really surprise me. This is afterall from a Japanese media company. Still, I think they look pretty great on my 1080p monitor here, and better yet I don't see any image compression artifacts. Clean lines, good depth of black+white, etc. Could be a LOT worse.

Ah, I always forget about those things...

Goddamn. If they make some sort of kindle version in English I'm buying all of them, they are also pretty darn cheap.

That's because the Japanese volumes are pretty cheap to begin with.

Awesome :isidro:
I have been waiting for something like this for a long time... Since they stopped publishing Berserk after 4 volumes in my country

Just purchased the Japanese Kindle edition of Berserk Volume 1 and it's really awesome! :guts: The official scans are real clean, and more importantly, it includes ALL COLOR PAGES! :ganishka: Even the color pages that weren't included in the MBR edition can also be seen. :ubik: The price is 550 yen, just as the original book. File format is azw3, which can be opened in the software "Calibre", or "Kindle for PC" as well (though I do think Calibre is easier to use).

Here is one of the color pages left out in the MBR editions:

I just downloaded the first volume. The color pages look gorgeous. It's really cool seeing the ones that I don't have access to in my Illustration File.
