I think the point he was trying to make was that Berserk Redux had the cinematic pace without cutting out all of those essential story and character points, something that apologists for the film said was an 'either / or" scenario. Granted, some of the story points like the King's incest, the Bakiraka, and Wyald were in neither the films or anime, so of course they could not be included in a fan-edit. Still, I think it stands up better than either the films or anime on their own.

Well I think you can guess my stance on this. It's all in the execution, and the original films did well in some areas and absolutely awful in others. Actually I thought pacing was one of the low points for the films often times, with unnecessary abridgment and anticlimactic endings. But don't blame the medium. There was definitely a good series of movies to be made out of the Berserk story, it was just poor choices that hurt both the anime and the films. Luckily though, those poor choices didn't always overlap which is what allowed the Redux series to fix a lot of those problems.
