Let's get the ball rolling with this:

http://kotaku.com/5562418/project-natal-officially-renamed-kinect-more-games-revealed

Project Natal is now "Kinect". Funny that MS would go so far in emulating Nintendo as to choose an improbable name for their motion control device. :iva:

But seriously, I can't help but to have a bad feeling about it. I've always held the belief that there was something to be done with motion control if it was used sparingly and in conjunction with classic controls, and yet the Wii showed us that it was a dire task for the average developer. Kinect's approach is way more extreme since it does away with the controller itself, and it does so on a platform that is not especially amicable to the idea in the first place. Add to that a potentially high launch price and I'm afraid it's not going to be quite the success MS is hoping for.

What do you guys think?

Berserk is Divine and Human
Yes, it's quite a challenge for MS. The fact is that I cannot really imagine whether this "kinetic" would even come close to the wii success or not. It's been a while that Nintendo just aim to an home family entertainment leaving aside a graphic quality up to today's standards. Maybe MS is going to bet on a general higher quality that intertwines with this controller removal project.
Honestly when the Wii was launched I was pretty skeptic about its success, but time has shown I was wrong.

So let's see...

Eeh. I have a hard time getting excited for it. Now, if it included a very high quality very HD surround headset that didn't strain my eyes or give me a headache - anyone here old enough to remember the 90's 'Virtual Reality' hype?

If they had something like that going on, with some kind of tactile feedback... but it doesn't seem like it. And I got tired of waggle ages ago already.

I hate motion-controlled minigames, I get sick of them after 30 minutes. And now they'll plague every console in existence, forever.
Man, these happy, "normal" families are pretty pathetic on motion-controlled games ads. I thought we'd never see them again after Wii's announcement, but here they are: Microsoft, Sony

But it'll be a great E3. Valve, Blizzard, BioWare will have cool things to show. Not to mention the 3DS!

This was made for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIoZ7Hwg_pE

That being said, I still want to believe motion control can be used to produce something good, in the line of what was done with the No More Heroes series. Unfortunately, after years of deriding the Wii's more casual titles, it looks like MS and Sony are going the exact same way instead of trying for something more ambitious.

And the new Zelda! And Metroid: Other M! And Crysis 2! And more. :guts:

Microsoft's show was a complete embarrassment. I was groaning throughout. All these fucking minigames are being marketed as separate retail products. That's insane. Imagine if Wii Sports was marketed as 6 separate games.

Also, MS cleverly dodged the bullet on pricing, which is the critical component to this motion experiment's success.

Nintendo's show tomorrow morning is what I'm looking forward to the most, easily. I even took a day off work to ensure I could follow it without interruption :guts: The prospect of the 3DS has me more excited than anything else at E3 this year, even moreso than Valve's announcement, which is said to NOT be HL2: Ep 3, and WILL be Portal 2 related.

Yeah, I found this MS conference to be pretty weak. And I wonder why they bothered hosting a special Kinect conference earlier (with super-duper staged Star Wars gameplay) since they focused on it this time as well... Sadly, MGS: Rising's ZAN-DETSU was the high point of the show, like I'd predicted when I saw it. Most of the execs who came on stage looked and sounded uninspired. Special mention to the hobo with the plastic shades and greasy hair. Most of the live gameplay was boring too. They were trying way too hard to look like they were having fun but it was just embarrassing. Took me back to the worst of Sony's "Ridge Racer" and Nintendo's "Wii Music" conferences.

Fable 3 was generic Fable material and I didn't even pay attention to whatever Molyneux was saying; Halo Reach was standard Halo made prettier. Even Gears of War 3, a game I'm genuinely looking forward to, was boring to watch. Maybe it's just me but the audience didn't seem all that excited either overall. And then they hopped right to KINECT and never went back. Oh, all the things it can do for you! Voice commands, because using a controller/remote control is such a bother but issuing voice commands isn't at all! And while we're at it, why not do some product placement? "CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF JOHNNY DEPP, TIM BURTON RIGHT?"

Free ESPN is cool, but I imagine it's restricted to specific countries... As for the games, Kinect Sports, Kinect Fit (that will transform the living room forever!), Kinect Racing, so blatant I wondered if there might not be grounds for a lawsuit. Good thing Kinectimals and Skittles were there to save the day. For the most part their use of the technology was extremely unimpressive too. Lesser than the Wiimote at times. I hope Sony has better stuff in store for its Move.

The new Forza looks nice, but again, how long will people spend inspecting cars from the outside? Not very long, if I'm to trust my personal experience with classic picture galleries. Lastly, the slim Xbox 360 shipping for the same price and with built-in Wifi is nice, but I felt bad for the guy that he had to ask for cheers even after announcing that MS would be giving one for free to everyone in the audience. When even bribing fails you know something's wrong. :ganishka:

So MS is finalling jumping on the built-in wireless bandwagon? Too bad Xbox Live isn't free yet.

Maybe MS should work on the 360's failure rate before they release the slim one.

They most likely took that into account. It's quieter, has a newer, more efficient PSU and probably heats less.

Also, Kinect is retailing at $149 over at Gamestop. I won't be buying one. And two of its games are being priced at $59.99 (each). Unbelievable.

Given that everyone who is even remotely interested in motion-controlled mini/waggle-games propably already owns a Wii, i too can't quite get what MS is hoping to achieve with this lineup. I expected them to show a more advanced version of their Milo-demo.
To me, the strongest point of natal is it's ability to read facial expressions and body-language, which could be used to great effect in rpgs when you are in a conversation. Something like normal gamepad-controls most of the time, but when you talk to someone your facial expressions factor into the dialogue. Or your character uses a more aggressive stance in battles if you look angry, something like that.

The good thing to this though is, that it's going to get better from here on out.

Well, EA's show was a big old fuck you to any BioWare fans hoping to glimpse a peek at anything interesting. No mention or image of Mass Effect 3 or Dragon Age 2.

The Crysis 2 footage stole that show, easily. The on-the-fly deformation of buildings and interiors are going to make that game spectacular.

I'd give a special mention to Dead Space 2 as well. It's more of the same, but it looked very nice. The new Medal of Honor however...

I haven't seen anything yet but just from following this thread I must say it's kinda depressing. :judo:

I agree with this statemeant.

Wasn't impressed at all by the motion control gimmicks. It seems like such a bad idea for both Sony and Microsoft,
assuming the majority of people are going to continue relying on their Wii for party/dance whatever games.

I was excited by the new Halo Reach footage presented though, the drop-pod elites and space dog fight look like they're going to be fun. :D But I'm also just a gigantic Bungie fanboy.

Wow, I didn't watch that, but I can't imagine not going crazy for a free console.
Lets hope the new Zelda gets everyone up off their ass!

This video just turned the lowest point in Microsoft's press conference into something awesome and hilarious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTYtH28esTg

Totally agree. I'm really, really hyped for this after seeing that gameplay sequence. But yeah, I was at least expecting a very small teaser from BioWare, like the one we got for ME2.

Don't worry, they had a game about breathing for stress relief complete with the devs being pretentious fucks with French accents you could barely understand... :isidro:

"Bring the light of day"
I'm with Aaz in this. Though if I had to compare, I'd say MS has a better shot at this than Sony does. Off course, it's just my opinion. I just really hope the PS3's main showcase won't be either the Ps3 Move nor 3D gaming. I much rather have a decent lineup of games.

Just watched the E3 Deus ex trailer, because someone mentioned it and I hadn't seen it...

Wow, incredible. This is the kind of stuff that makes me feel like a kid getting his first video game.
