Episode 377

The last pages with Guts and Rakshas emerging were pretty cool, but thats it

Its clear that they are making things up that doesnt make any sense as tools to move the plot forward

The whole Kushan empire is pointless. Also, the guys from Elfhelm being thrown in the trash is just another choice to move the plot, basically "discarding" things they didnt know what Miura were going to do with them

Same thing with Guts, their choice was putting him to sleep and being silent because they clearly are afraid of developing his character

So its clear now that at least 80% of the Continuation is completely discarding characters they are afraid of touching and creating fanfiction that contradicts the original story to move the plot forward

Farnese saying: "I am worried about teacher. Everyone, you will come with me." and Serpico answering "Yes, Lady Farnesee" - so Farnese behaves like a boss-bitch now? Is that due to the poor translation I'm reading?
I guess they're just using the first interactions between the two when they first appeared in the manga as a reference. It's like when she cried in ep. 370 saying that it was all her fault and that she couldn't do anything, where they referenced the first time she joined Guts.

It might be because it has been a while since the last read, but the storytelling seems to be getting worse?
I've reached the point where I now just read to for the ending :/

The truth people aren't ready to hear is that they're likely going to screw up the ending too.

i assume maybe itll just be something like farnese freeing guts or maybe just going to the war room to help fight raskas.

On its face, it would make more sense for Farnese to aid Guts than for her to help against Rakshas. What would she do against an apostle? That being said, you never know what the Continuation team might pull on us...

Yes, but we both know that's not an explanation. While reading it I was hoping for a "We won't kneel before monsters and we're doing that by doing xyz". That's why I said I'm hoping it's an acknowledgement to the very existence of Fantasia (first time in two years, yay :ubik:) and that they're going (trying) to explain it in the next episode. I just hope it's not an explanation similar to why some magic users can't use magic anymore but that'll probably be the extent of it

Well you said he didn't have time to answer, and that's not true, he did answer. We're in agreement that it's worthless and doesn't make sense, but it is the rationale for the empire's survival, and honestly I don't think you should expect anything else on the topic. It will likely be just like for the magicians.

they could have at least claimed that they were using their own demon soldiers can't remember their name at this moment in order to defend themselves is not like Daiba couldnt make more of them he does know the process

Well first it's implied that the Daka and Pishacha's existence was not known to these chieftains, with Silat commenting that Daiba kept them out of his report. Second, these were only made possible by Ganishka. He was no doubt essential to capture all the apostles that were sewn together to make the artificial beherit, and his fog was the key to creating the Pishacha. So actually Daiba can't make more of them. Without Ganishka, Daiba's abilities are quite limited, or at least were in the real Berserk. In the Continuation, who knows what he can do.

they portrait the Kushan empire in a peacefull state even after the merging with the astral world, at least they could have made it look like they were on a state of alert in the city but no the Kushan empire looks more like the setting of an Isekai.

Yeah, we've talked about the absurdity of the situation in general, but the fact they're completely unbothered and there's no sense of danger at all is ridiculous even if you buy into the idea that they can somehow endure in this new world. It really is just a return to a pre-Fantasia world, with the apparent goal of having a big battle like in Vritannis. I really hope there's more to it than that, but it's not looking good.

Farnese saying: "I am worried about teacher. Everyone, you will come with me." and Serpico answering "Yes, Lady Farnesee" - so Farnese behaves like a boss-bitch now? Is that due to the poor translation I'm reading?

Farnese's dialogue is quite bad and out of character, like all the dialogue since the Continuation began, but yes the translation you and others are using seems rather poor. She just tells them "let's go", it's nothing worth spending time on.

Speaking of similarities, that chest back-burster scene seemed really familiar as well. The guy appears to be having stomach troubles, and then POP. (What's actually happening though...? Did Rakshas secrete himself into the guy's food and then stomach?)
Ha!
Frankly the first thing that popped up in my mind, particularly because of the last page, what with the black stringy goo coming from the back, plus the 2 masks including a broken one (both should be broken, but...), was Kakuzu from the Akatsuki in Naruto , since he also had a broken mask on when this happened =>
a cartoon character with stitches on his back is standing in front of a mountain .

When it comes to the Kushan city, I'm so sad seeing that generic town right next to the coast.

I remember being so hyped about what the Bakiraka hidden village would look like... Gigantomakia in particular showed us such beautiful and cleverly crafted civilizations, I couldn't wait to see what our favorite mangaka had in store for us, a human settlement that was built in a way that could, at least temporarily, repel astral creatures attacks.
It would obviously be built with the incredible physical capacities of the assassins living there in mind, so who knows what kind of crazy designs Miura sensei had in mind, that Femto could only send Rakshas to infiltrate it?

Anyway, thank you all for keeping this website alive! :sad:

yeah who knows what they'll do. if she went to help attack rakshas maybe theyd have her use her thorn familiars to distract him like how daiba used the snakes to attack him back at falconia and then have daiba and silat double team rakshas to defeat him or something. I just think theyll have her free guts and maybe have him appear in the war room at the end of the chapter ready to face off against the demon with the others.

This chapter is a mess, the plot don't make any sense... are they really telling me that the kushan empire that lost a military campaign recently has the military might to endure the change of the world just by throwing soldiers against the monsters from the astral world that now roam the world like is nothing, they could have at least claimed that they were using their own demon soldiers can't remember their name at this moment in order to defend themselves is not like Daiba couldnt make more of them he does know the process
They actually couldn't use the demon soldiers excuse because that was all singularly powered by Ganishka, and Daiba wouldn't be of any help because he was in Falconia at the time. Really they just wrote themselves into a corner with the Kushan capital still existing and this is their tacked on, lazy excuse. At the very least they should have made up some bullshit about the empire's own magicians somehow being responsible. Even if they were largely just surrogates for Ganishka's power it would have made more sense than this.

One would expect Studio Gaga's work being amateurish but at the same time genuine, because they worked closely with Miura for so many years, but no, the end result is both appalling and defiant of the inner logics of Berserk or any good narrative. Guts grinning now, in this state, and only because an apostle showed up is so bad it made me laugh.

I don't care about the artwork being good or bad or better than past chapters.

I believe he's supposed to be gritting his teeth, like from pain or something (yeah it doesn't make sense either way). It's a really grotesque panel though, so it's not surprising there's a bunch of different interpretations.

This is becoming a more painful endeavor with every single page that goes by. First half of this episode it felt like all of the dialogue was just people saying each others names. "Oh, Daiba, Oh Silat, Oh, young Rickert" but then when actual "dialogue" started happening during the Kurultai I just really couldn't stop thinking about how it feels like none of the people involved in this Continuation have ever read the story. What the actual fuck are they doing to Berserk

Yeah, this is easily the worst episode they've published so far, at least for me.

I'm genuinely curious how you can pick one as the worst. :void: Like, what aspect is so bad about this one that wasn't inherent in the others? They've all been bad.

I guess on reflection, the worst I've felt about them was in 365-366, because it was such a shock to the system. But the bar was set, and it was close to the floor. So after 2 years (:isidro:) I've acclimated to them, and just kind of roll my eyes.

This is the worst for me for many reasons:
1) it retcons Fantasia;
2) it tries to have some world building, but fails miserably;
3) they contraddict their own made up set of rules about magic... again;
4) it makes Ganishka look like an idiot;
5) it ends the Bakiraka's exile in the span of three pages;
6) they make Gedflynn and Rickert speak of the Kushan as if they're the most welcoming people ever to exist, so much that they have to constantly remind us through Roderick about their invasion of Midland.
I guess it all just comes down to personal taste. I didn't really have any expectations about the Kushan empire, but I was still disappointed.

Really those first three or four episodes were too action packed for me to even develop an opinion. Their little fan fiction really falls apart in these quiet moments as the reality settles in.
