Episode 379

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it the longest guts has been out of business/useless episode wise and irl time wise?
Irl time? I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if the answer was yes. Episode wise though? Yes, it is. With Miura, the few times where we didn't get character development from Guts were when the story switched to Griffith's side. And even when Guts was badly injured, Miura would only take a few episodes to get him back on track, while also developing things like the beast of darkness.

Haven't seen anyone else mention it, maybe I've missed it, but..
Don't you think we're having kind of groundhog day with that "show guts half awake for the last two panels of the episode". If he's not relevant at all and you're not even gonna show us his thoughts then why even bother dangling him like shiny keys. I guess people would be too mad if they didn't show him at all.

It's been mentioned a few times in the thread, but since it's been going on for so long I think at this point the question is more "when is it going to end?". It's almost become a running gag. We'll see if things change with episode 380, since somebody finally seems interested in having a talk with him.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it the longest guts has been out of business/useless episode wise and irl time wise?

It is for all intents and purposes. What's most damning is that it's the longest he's been "out" while his side of the story is being shown. He was off screen for a few episodes in volume 18 when the story focused on Casca's side, and we followed Griffith for long periods in volumes 32 to 34 because we were seeing world changing events. It wasn't a problem because it made sense and served a purpose.

But here we're strictly seeing Guts' side of things, and he's not just out of commission but off the page. He barely has any internal dialogue and is not the focus at all of whatever's going on. In short, he's not being treated as the main character. Like you said, they just show him in a panel or two to assuage the readers.

Fuck me. They turned Guts into Yamcha.

Truly a new low.

@Todd Liu posted about it last year, and there's other poses that appear to be lifted straight from Dragon Ball or other works, like the one of Puck chilling on an unconscious Guts (similar to Trunks' most famous pose). It's believable to me given what we know of Kurosaki's character and proclivities.
Damn. I didn't know this panel was a year old!

Glad I quit reading this 'continuation' when I did. No idea how you guys are still enduring it. Hat's off to you all.

It's from episode 371 (released in December 2022). You wouldn't believe how much crazy nonsensical stuff has happened since then. :ganishka:
Let no man say the Continuation isn't densely packed then. Too bad it's dense with nonsense.

This just put things into perspective for me: Guts, the enduring hero, the struggler, has been depressed and dead-weight for more than 2 years now. Jesus Christ. I'm speechless.

Let's not forget this one!

Now where have I seen that point before...

Speaking of similarities, that chest back-burster scene seemed really familiar as well. The guy appears to be having stomach troubles, and then POP. (What's actually happening though...? Did Rakshas secrete himself into the guy's food and then stomach?)

All things considered, the imagery with guts breaking down and the vomitting he did on the ship, i did actually very much like. With some dialogue and focus on casca and the situation, it would have made it perfect. His thoughts might have veered off to when he vowed he would never lose again and this possibly leading to some overwhelming self-guilt. Doesnt take much thought, to come up with something atleast plausible.

You already said everything I could possible say about such episode. Man, I don't even know at this point, how can they both copy the plotline from Qlipoth while also being so far away from any prior established lore.

The most surreal part in all of this is everyone's reactions to the continuation. whoever I am talking to about the manga outside this forum seems to be just fine with it, its like I am the delusional one. Are established worldbuilding and character development not a thing in the general public? I'm truly baffled.
A good chunk of Berserk's fans online only ever experienced the story through dogshit scanlations from 20 years ago and video essays talking about how cool and deep it is. Barely understanding what's happening but being assured it's the greatest thing ever and they're cool for liking it is par for the course.

Man. The art took a DIVE this episode. Regulars shouldn't be that hard for the Team to draw. From that Marvel Vs Capcom team move Isidro and Puck panel to the ridiculous Roderick face... Anyway, there's some nicely rendered stuff in here but the most of the paneling is still just. Not good.

Also a bummer that they appear to have mistaken Benge from Vampire Hunter D, for Rakshas.
