This episode is part of the new serialization of Berserk that is being done without Kentarou Miura. It's based on some of the material he left behind as well as what he had told his close ones of the story over the years. Kouji Mori, his best friend and a fellow mangaka, writes and supervises the series while his former assistants draw it under the banner of Studio Gaga.

Berserk Continuation Episode Summaries:

365: Griffith's presence is felt across the island. Casca runs toward Griffith but begins bleeding and triggering (random) memories.
366: Guts swings at Griffith but cannot land a hit. Schierke detects a maelstrom of power around Griffith. Zodd lands on the island.
367: Danan senses something dark rising from beneath the island. Griffith grabs Casca. The cherry tree loses its blossoms, and the island begins to break apart.
368: Gnawers emerge from the cracks, devouring the island. Roderick prepares the ship to depart. Guts despairs at the loss of Casca.
369: The island begins to sink. The elves vanish (except for Puck and Ivalera).
370: On the Sea Horse, Molda rallies Farnese to help heal the injured. Roderick is worried about Guts. In the ship's hold, Guts despairs his failure.
371: Schierke peeks in Guts' mind but is repelled by the Beast's jaws. Griffith arrives in Falconia with Casca.
372: Casca explores Falconia in a subdued state. Fleeting memories of her past provoke a failed escape attempt. Griffith sends his forces east.
373: Skellig's magicians have lost their powers. Schierke needs everyone for a spell to try to locate Casca. During this, Kushans attack. The Beast taunts Guts.
374: Kushans, led by Silat, take over the Seahorse and bloodlessly capture everyone. They approach Guts with caution. Rickert is with the Kushans.
375: Silat captured the Sea Horse following a prophecy from Daiba. The passengers and crew are taken captive toward the Kushan capital.
376: Guts is locked in a cell. The powerless magic users are given over to Daiba. Silat announces a campaign against Falconia.
377: Silat attends a council with all the Kushan leaders and asks for control of their combined military. Rakshas bursts out from one of the participants.
378: Rakshas sends a shockwave that causes monsters to appear all over the city. Silat lunges at him to engage in battle.
379: Silat telepathically reassures the Kushan people. The monsters are dealt with. Rakshas flees and winds up in front of Guts.
380: Magic users dispel the remaining trolls. Rakshas is killed by Silat, who then throttles Guts in anger that he didn't try to defend himself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: This magazine is only in Japanese? I can't read Japanese, so why should I buy it?
A:
I can't read Japanese either. But if you want to follow along with the latest Berserk releases, getting this magazine is the only legal way to do it. Berserk's episodes run in these magazines months or years before they are collected into a volume. You can read our summaries on the forum and wait for our English text-based translations of each episode, available in a week or so after release.

Q: What do I need to set up an account on Hakusensha-E?
A:
A valid email address, a Chrome browser (or another browser with a built-in Japanese language translation), and a credit card. PayPal is not accepted at this time. Follow Aazealh's guide to learn more in-depth information on setting up an account.

Q: Purchasing requires my bank to do extra stuff because it's an international purchase. What do I do?
A:
This happens to many first-time customers to shops outside your country of origin. It's your bank flagging a new kind of transaction from a new country. To ensure that this transaction is valid, you may be asked for more information to verify your identity and your bank account. Afterward, this is an automatic process. If you have further questions, you can read VISA's guide on how this process works, or contact your bank.

Apparently the Kushan empire with its incredible martial prowess that survived 'The disaster of the world caused by the great wave of the astral world.' Had its army wiped out by trolls in such a short time, God only knows how they survived up till now.

Puck suddenly dissapeared again, after seemingly shaking of his amnesia. Amnesia must have kicked back in, en route to Guts and he's now lost. Rickert might aswell be an acquaintance to Guts.

As for Guts, he might aswell be a walking cardboard cutout, i'm sure it would make no difference.

The Manga just seems devoid of any meaningful value, with Miuras Berserk deeper thought was rewardful and fun. The closer you inspect the Manga, the more the flaws become apparent and your mind takes you down a spiral of thoughts on how Miura could have done it.

My summary:
Daiba parades a drooling Guts around, using the body controlling powers of the kushan magic users. Previously it was chains forcing Guts legs to move (don't think about it too hard, okay?), but that was ridiculous, so now it's retconned powers. Fine. Daiba establishes that Guts' brand makes him a threat to the city, which allows him to be placed under his care, which is apparently way outside the capital.

My questions:
-Daiba's explanation is that Guts' brand can attract dangerous creatures like trolls. But doesn't THE ENTIRE STATE OF THE WORLD do that, anyway?
-Guts is about to get moved to Continuation Box #3 (ship's hold; Geneva Code violation cell; Daiba's secret lab). Will his next one at least have water and a courtesy shit bucket?
-Why did Daiba even need this elaborate, group-powered-locomotion spell to make it look like Guts was walking to the big room if all he was going to do was move Guts out of the city?
-Why is Daiba being portrayed as evil when it seemed like from Miura's last touch with the character that he was being positioned as an ally? It feels like they're planting a faux-seed of doubt for the character just to milk some extra drama.
-Rakshas is dead. He didn't even get a mention in this episode. So then why did he even appear at all, if the story's next focus is how branded ones can attract creatures like the trolls? It's not like the brand needs to be an excuse for apostles to show up and wreck shit.
-Why is Ged sitting on a fucking bench amidst all of this discussion?
-Did Emperor Blorbo shrink since his last apperance?
-Did that Guru really forget that he was pretending to forget that he had already eaten?

Oh, that's what the group of Kushan monks was for, I didn't understand that.

One starts to wonder though why they would come up with all of this bullshit to make Guts move, when they could just drag him - but I suppose that would make him look kinda pathetic right? Right?

Weird episode to say the least..

Mori can not make up his mind between "Monks", "Sorcerers" and introduces a new term "Brahmin".. LOL! Only if he had read Miura's work.. he would have realized that Daiba was called "Overseer of Harshadas". Episode 243 : Jyanin... Very interesting name for its place in story. Anyhow, Harshada were the Kushan spell-caster controlling the Pishachas and they were not really "unapproachable by even royalty". Given their own supervisor / overseer Daiba was given a shock therapy by Kushan Emperor himself. LOL!

Brahmin =/= Monk =/= Harashadas ....

But then nuance is not really a forte of Mori.

Well to manufacture drama at the expense of logic, seems to me the only explanation for whats happening. All in the name of the cheap emotional engagement, i have to wonder if they realise their staking their credibility. Inconsistent characters, plot holes and compromising themes are all sacrificed on the alter for soap opera. Shattering any sort of immersion and making it tiresome to invest any energy in following the narrative. It's happening far too frequently for it to be a mistake, at this point its simply become a decision. So much for honoring Miura's Legacy.

With this episode outcome, and what seems to be the Kushan Capital "Chapter" outcome too, what was added to the story evolution since the Seahorse crew got kidnapped by Silat?

Silat and the Bakiraka now decides to follow Guts that's being body controlled by Daiba and these Monks, also it's Isidro and Puck. All the Guts company will stay at the city doing nothing? Will they leave Schierke and the Skellig residents behind?

Could not all this Empire Capital bullshit have been skipped and Silat, Rickert, Daiba and co. just randomly encounter Guts co. in a random forest while they got to an unknown coast after the island events? Even Rakshas could have been involved in that without this made-up city and all it's events and residents, even the presumably most important character introduced that is the Emperor is not even named, so what's the point of all the last 6 episodes?

Don't tell me this will become a pattern of him standing up every few episodes and then getting locked up somewhere else, because I can see it happening... :magni::judo:

I wish they would've addressed more, this seemed like a filler episode. The way Daiba got to be playing the evil guy just to be in charge of Guts is pretty stupid, but it's fine I guess. The dialogue sounded like a bad Marvel movie though imo. And cat still got Guts's tongue

Reading it more calmly, without the hype, I think Mori's Berserk is what we need to get used to, otherwise I think we'll be ignoring the fact that they realized they couldn't go after Miura. If we're reading Mori's Berserk from here on out, I'd at least want the pacing to be fast.

By the way, I don't think the series will progress hopelessly as it is said here BECAUSE the points that need to be fixed are simple and yes there are many weak points until these points are reached, especially the end of chapter 380, the end of the matter is to reach a meaningful ending and the formulas for this are simple, at least Mori and the team are capable of doing this. Let me explain to this to you:

As you can see, the current state of Berserk stands at a critical crossroads, both in terms of narrative coherence and emotional impact.

Do you feel they have any credibility left? Because I don't.

By the time they're done I think you'll find that most of the Continuation could have been skipped...

No, it's not fine. You shouldn't be settling for garbage!

What hype? :ganishka: Also, no. Just no, I'm not going to "get used to" this garbage, as in "try to swallow it and pretend it's fine". Your sentence barely makes sense but if they had realized they couldn't continue the series after Miura, they wouldn't be doing it in the first place. And sure, we'd all prefer that they got to the fucking point by now, but they seem to have other plans.

I disagree with that assessment, and prompting ChatGPT to barf out pointers about "what would the story need to get good" like you just did isn't going to convince me otherwise (nor anyone else, I suspect). By the way, please don't do that again. You're not fooling anyone and it's not helpful. Case in point:

As you can see, the current state of Berserk stands at a critical crossroads, both in terms of narrative coherence and emotional impact.

First line and it's already wrong. The Continuation already went off road, onto train tracks and caused a wreck, then fell off a cliff. There's no fixing it anymore, and this team has demonstrated time and again that they do not possess the talent to do it anyway. If you wish to argue otherwise, do so using your own words.

Now I appreciate more than ever why Virgil ordered his assistants to burn his Aeneid just before he died..."Don't continue a great man's work you fucking plebeians!"

That team should be put in a (METAPHORICAL - I'M NOT A PSYCHO OKAY?!) wickerman and set on fire. As in, they shouldn't be allowed to draw anything again.

YouTube video appeared on my feed: "What is Daiba plotting?" Bro, Daiba doesn't know that himself...

Sorry, had to get that off my chest. These threads are always hard to read.

Back to crying over my beautiful deluxe volumes. :judo: :ganishka::mozgus::stop:

Well, besides being a terrible Berserk episode, it was also incredibly boring. Farnese got praised, Guts looks more mentally challenged than ever, and important characters pop in—and more importantly, out—whenever it suits the story (what's Puck doing?).

Guts hasn’t even reached the place they’re taking him to yet. I fear that in the next episode, we’ll see it, Daiba will explain the next part of the story his grand masterplan, and then we’ll get yet another awkward cutoff before anything actually happens.

Besides: what are they trying to do at Daiba's breeding ground? Wasn't it destroyed when Ganishka became 1 mile in diameter (and on the other side of the world)? I suppose it's something similar, but not the one we know. We'll see.

Oh, and ain't no way this transition wasn't intentional:

They aren't even avoiding tangents, damn...

Yeah, it's been three years of this. Literally what the hell is actually wrong with Guts? Has he just gone mute after Griffith's last appearance? Is he braindead now? Nothing will salvage the continuation but I'd prefer they actually try to write the character. 5, 10, 15 episodes from now is he still gonna be drunk and/or mute? It's not funny anymore, just stupid as hell.

Also, I think I've forgotten some crucial information. Why have the Kushan made Guts a criminal? He didn't even do anything this time to earn that title.

Everything that we've seen in these past few episodes is Studio Gaga's most contrived way to show us what Daiba wants to do with Guts. Rakshas was just a pawn that unleashed all that chaos so that Daiba could have Guts "exiled" by blaming him, without none of the Kushans questioning what he wants to do to him.

They don't have the guts (pun intended) to make him talk...because they don't have the writing abilities to make his dialogue make sense within this story.

I bet they gonna make him mute until he goes to Falconia (which I assume will be the next goal of this continuation).
