Game of Thrones TV [spoilers]

Let's hope the
damn white walkers and dragons finally get to the inner portions of Westeros. Hopefully this can be accomplished within less than 40 cumulative hours of running time

Yeah... That's not gonna happen.

I like the political chess/leverage gauging, the snappy dialogue, and the uncertainty over who will live and who will die. But the pacing is frustrating. Are there any stories out there that have the charm of Game of Thrones but without the excessive teasing?

Read the book? Also Legend of the Galactic Heroes is great for political chess and snappy dialogue, better than GoT I'd say.

This thread should have been bumped a while ago because Season 4 has been on another level. While I've always enjoyed the atmosphere of intrigue on the show, I never thought it was particularly riveting television, but kind of stilted, choppy, and boring episode to episode. Things seemed to only happy on a macro level, and when they did it was kind of perfunctory. Even watershed moments like the Red Wedding couldn't hold a candle to the execution of Breaking Bad's throwaway moments. This season has been different. I don't think I've ever felt the way I did after last night's episode from watching a TV show. I literally felt sick about it (though it might have also had something to do with the half a pizza I ate =). Essentially, I didn't enjoy it in the best way possible. :guts:

That's also what I felt. I really glad to read this because everyone around me have a completely different opinion on this show. Anyway, last three episodes hooked me more than the entire previous seasons. Better pacing, better characters interaction and this time, the gruesome part isn't only demonstrative but emotionally effective.

That being said, Daenerys' segment is as ever boring as hell. A constant.

I don't want to phase in and out of spoiler tags, so I'll just block the whole thing.

I had my suspicions and as soon as Sand exchanged smiles with Oberyn I knew he was doomed, but I was wholly unprepared for how blunt and astoundingly gruesome his death was, especially to a character so elegant and suave. Several of my friends said that it went too far even if they had read the books. As the credits rolled I felt sick as well, but now and even then I think it was handled perfectly. It's weird, by a simple visceral standpoint it's no more bloody or shocking than a lot of what takes place on the show and it hardly holds a candle to slasher and gore porn movies where I've still felt nothing. But they managed to get the emotional power and character investment so exact that I'm left nearly speechless.

I stopped watching around season 2, because I didn't really like the tone or direction of the show. It seems more interested in adding flourish to the soap opera elements than the political and fantasy elements. Also, I've read the books and didn't particularly enjoy them, so I saw no reason to continue watching the TV adaptation. In my opinion, the interesting parts of this series are already over.

Glad to hear that it's not complete shit though.

I was thinking about bumping this thread but I thought most people here had given up on it. But you're right, this season has far outdone the others (except for Daenery's stuff. SHIT). Everything is better even the actual film making aspect.

And yea, that last episode...
I was so confident in the way it would play out only to throw my hands up at the end and go to bed speechless. I don't know if it made me feel sick, but it stuck with me for the entire next day. Like witnessing a car accident or something.

I really like
the symbolism of this particulary title episode (''The Mountain and the Viper'') and how the mystery around Oberyn character and surname was explain between the moment he became Tyrion's champion and the moment we discovered his fighting/weapon style. Really satisfying.

For those who already red the books,
can you tell me if there's a difference of development for Oberyn, his fight and death ?

This season it feels like they finally found the right pace for the show. And I liked the changes they've made from the book. George R.R. martin would introduce hundreds of new minor characters just to keep the series going. The TV series now finally feels like it has a purpose.

This season finally lived up to the hype surrounding the show. While I still enjoyed the last three seasons just because I liked all the over the top political machinations (I actually don't give a crap about Dany or the Wall at this point: more King's Landing, please), it never totally delivered even in its biggest moments to me
(the closest thing to last night was probably Jaime's hand being unceremoniously chopped off).
Too bad every season its the same shit with Dany because I haven't cared about her since season 2 and I hate her bloodless victories. At first I was happy with her progress this season, because it looked like we could finally move on, but if this is all they're going to do with her they might as well have dragged things out more. Use your ships!

That's how it was until this season, and season 2 was the worst except for the Blackwater episode. I kept waiting for it to jump a level from season 1 and become this great show I was hearing about, but it just sort of meandered. Season three wasn't much better for all the hype but at least it had more memorable moments. I think a lot of the emphasis or de-emphasis of certain elements were for budgetary and base TV reasons (dragons and armies are expensive, sex and melodrama are cheap and sell). This season has been excellent though as it looks like they figured out the best way to balance things and manipulate the material from the books too. I haven't been this excited for, and satisfied with, Sunday night since Breaking Bad's final run.

Completely ignorant of every other show currently on television, I'll confidently say it's the best show on TV. =)

Same here, and it literally gave a splitting headache, no pun intended. :carcus:

The extra kick in the teeth is
Jorah actually plotting against King's Landing the moment the jig is up about his past.
Like some kind of cruel joke on the part of the show writers.

It's been about a year since I read it, but
I don't recall any real differences. He certain dies the same way, head smashed in and I do believe he gets his teeth knocked in.

The one thing I'm not sure about is his bisexuality--or I guess a more appropriate term would be his omnisexuality. I honestly don't recall that being a big deal to him. He seemed entirely interested in his paramour from what I remember.

The video is (kind of) a spoiler for those that haven't seen the latest episode.

Saw this going around social media yesterday.
He certainly makes the most rookie horror movie mistake of not confirming the kill. However, that was the point, I guess. He needed Clegane to admit he did it and got the order from Tywin. Oh well.

His bisexuality is hinted at in the books. In the books he's also represented as a bit more devious than he is in the show. Martin has a way of writing quick of wit and tongue characters, very good. The Martell's (such as Obyren) also hate the Tyrell's as much if not more than the Lannisters, which was almost completely left out.

That whole speech he gives Tyrion right before he say's he'll be his champion, about how mean his sister is and how he was supposed to be a monster, is actually given right when he meets Tyrion, and is meant as an insult to him, not a way of saying "I hate Cersei too."

Not reading the books as yet, so my opinion of Jon Snow is based out of the TV series and I can't stand the guy. Is he hinted anywhere in the books to actually being
the Lord Of Light
? Also, this season I watched two of my favorite characters
die - Joff and Tywin
.

Since you presumably haven't read the books for fear of being spoiled, do you actually want an answer...?
