How would Guts deal with Griffith's lieutenants?

Hello!

I finished Berserk a few months ago and it was definitely a story I loved to bits! The big Dark Horse hardcover volumes definitely made it easier for me to appreciate the finer details on the pages. It was very unfortunate to see that Miura had passed before his story was complete.

One of the things left on my mind was wondering how Miura would have had Guts deal with Griffith's apostle lieutenants. While I would like to think Guts would challenge them one-by-one, I believe his duel against Grunbeld might have stopped them from underestimating his strength again? Of course Rakshas is a different story, being an assassin and all... :rakshas:

After Zodd and Guts work together to take down Ganishka, Zodd comments shortly after that if Guts were to attack Griffith that "our entire army would just mince you into a hundred pieces of meat", so maybe they would just tag team him?

Thank you for reading and I would love to hear your thoughts! This is my first post, so please do let me know if I have done anything incorrectly.

One thing's for certain: whatever Miura had planned, it wasn't anything like the way the continuation handled Rakshas.

I don't think all of the apostles were reserved for Guts. Clear rivalries have already been established, most notably Silat vs. Rakshas and Zodd vs. SK.

You could argue for Grunbeld and Guts, but honestly, I don't think the latter particularly cares about the former. It would be useful to have read the Grunbeld light novel by now, as it might contain some hints, but based on what I read in Walter's review of it, I won't be touching that thing.

As for Irvine or Locus, it's anybody's guess. We hardly know anything about either of them. Well, maybe Locus has a personal feud with Rickert ever since he smacked the shit out of his beloved master. :troll:

Ah, I am not sure how this went over my head... I think it would have been very cool to see these rivalries conclude over the story.

Regarding Rakshas in the continuation, Silat stabbed him in the head earlier in volume 38(I think?), only to be told that is not necessarily where his head is. Yet in the continuation Silat stabs him in the head again and he dies..? I found that to be a bit silly, unless I missed something important.

I had heard of the Grunbeld light novel prior, but I had only heard negative things about it, and Walter's review seems to only cement that further.

It is indeed silly for a variety of reasons, and that's one of those, yes. You unfortunately didn't miss anything.

Having read his review, I'm genuinely terrified of people who read and liked it. But alas, it has insanely good reviews on amazon e.g.

@TheItCrow makes a great point that Guts didn't need to kill every apostle himself. He has companions now. Among them, the Bakiraka. Because the way Miura left things, the entire clan were about to get an infusion of Rickert's engineering + Daiba's astral creature taming. They'd become an apostle fighting force to be reckoned with.

I also don't think we'd necessarily need to see all apostles decapitated to reach a good ending. It would become cumbersome for all of them to square off in a duel, right? However, some of these were locks: Rakshas vs Silat (former Bakiraka vs leader of Bakiraka); Grunbeld vs Guts (and he's at 100% this time...); Zodd vs Guts (the final rematch).

It has to be from people who are just excited that it's an officially licensed Berserk novel. You know, in hindsight, examining our reaction vs the general reaction is like a perfect analog for what would come later with the continuation. :sweatdrop:
