Resident Evil 5

So I read all the "text" spoilers to the game. I refuse to watch anything from the actual game. I'm not going to say anything. The only thing I would like to mention is that RE 1, RE 2, RE CV and RE 4...also RE 1 remake were created by the original RE creator, RE 5 is created by the guys who did RE 3, RE 0, and RE UC. If you notice in these RE games there is a pretty different pace of story, and other aspects, such as development, in game plot info, twists, game play.

I think I will enjoy RE 5 a lot, I like the way it plays, but how does it hold up to the OVERALL RE storyline? Well with so many staff changes, game play changes, and evolving plot direction how could a RE game not have plot holes....which RE game doesn't have plot holes....well the first and second...don't have too many...but all the other ones to follow...are questionable. lol So keep a open mind to RE 5, much like everyone did in RE 4. I think by doing that you will get a absolutely great experience.

I'm finally strolling slowly through RE4 since it came out on the Wii and am enjoying it immensely, the one draw back is co-op of course since I can't play it with my gf. As I understand it, Capcom is generally saying they'd love to port the game to Wii but the console isn't capable of handling the graphics (duh), not even the intro screen (BS).

Either way, I sure hope it does, but in the mean time I'm crossing my fingers the split-screen won't look like this:

In a few interviews with capcom, they hint at something. In one interview it says that RE:CV fans will have some great news come March 12th. They also acknowledged that a lot of people want RE 5 for wii and acknowledged that yes, it was make for the 360 and PS3. But they mention the Wii fans will soon be happy. So a lot people suspect a Umbrella Chronicles 2 for the Wii with both a CV and RE5 chapter. Maybe. Or maybe both games entirely will be ported to the Wii. It would be cool to see a Umbrella Chronicles 2, they could jam RE 2, RE CV, RE 4, maybe RE 5. But knowing Capcom they would put a whole chapter of "Degeneration" into the game instead of a RE 5 chapter. But wether its "ports" or a UC 2 I would be pretty happy with what I get. Being a RE fan, I would like a RE game were your the side characters, like one of the survival modes, but with story and meaning. Like you play through Hunks story. You play through Weskers story, and Ada's. Maybe I would suggest Billy and Carlos, heck even Barry! A game to give some in sight into these "side branch" characters.

Only 6 more days! RE 5~

I'll be picking this up tonight at midnight at the gamestop midnight celebration, if I can, I didn't preorder it or anything.

Yeah, tomorrow, my 3+ years of internet monitoring of RE5 will come to fruition with the release of the Game. It makes me feel like a big geek. I also did the same thing with FF7: Advent Children, Before Crisis up till they're release. I have been monitoring RE games since RE 3, except RE CV. I also monitored Kingdom heart 1 and 2 up till the point they came out. Man, the more I add to this list, the more I feel like I have no life. The truth hurts. :judo:

Is it coming out tomorrow? I had no idea, what I do know is, it's racist y'all! :ganishka:

http://videogames.yahoo.com/feature/resident-evil-5-in-race-storm/1295905

One of those shocked by the game's content was respected industry commentator N'Gai Croal, who described his reaction to Resident Evil 5 as "Wow, clearly no one black worked on this game."

...

Resident Evil's designer, Jun Takeuchi... confirmed that several of Resident Evil 5's development team are black.

Saw that one coming as soon as I read the quote. But actually, that's almost a year old and he's being taken out of context. He actually had a lot of reasonable things to say about it, possibly been posted before, and it's referring to the first trailer, so obviously missing a lot of information:

http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/04/10/newsweeks-ngai-croal-on-the-resident-evil-5-trailer-this-imagery-has-a-history/

Q: I wanted to ask you about the “Resident Evil 5″ trailer…

I looked at the “Resident Evil 5″ trailer and I was like, “Wow, clearly no one black worked on this game.” Because I wonder, and I haven’t sort of really dug into it that much, but I wonder what sort of advice Capcom gave them. The point isn’t that you can’t have black zombies. There was a lot of imagery in that trailer that dovetailed with classic racist imagery. What was not funny, but sort of interesting, was that there were so many gamers who could not at all see it. Like literally couldn’t see it. So how could you have a conversation with people who don’t understand what you’re talking about and think that you’re sort of seeing race where nothing exists?

...

It’s not as simple as saying, “Oh, they shot Spanish zombies in ‘Resident Evil 4,’ and now ‘black zombies and that’s why people are getting upset.” The imagery is not the same. It doesn’t carry the same history, it doesn’t carry the same weight. I don’t know how to explain it more clearly than that.

...

...You know because another thing that you sort of have gamers run into in situations like this is that, “Oh it’s just a game.” [laughs] You know, if it’s just a game, then why do we care about how culturally relevant they are? I care about how culturally relevant they are. I take games as seriously as other art forms.

If there were a movie that had those images, I’d question it. I’d really want to know what’s going on in this movie. Like where is this coming from? So we hadn’t seen much of the game. It was just a trailer. If it had been me in that situation, I wouldn’t have put out a trailer like that. I think it’s very easy to misunderstand what that game is about based on that trailer...

Q: It’s funny how some people argue that it’s “just a game,” but also get really upset of any criticism of it…

Absolutely. It’s very difficult in this country, in many countries, to have a conversation about race. Everyone brings to it their own history, their own perspective. Some people are engaged in it, some people aren’t. I think some people are concerned because some people think there is a double standard. Some people say that when it’s images of only black people then people get concerned. Some people feel like their hobby is under attack; it’s being misinterpreted or misunderstood. Again the portrayal of Africa... as sort of this dark, dangerous continent filled with people who only want to do you harm goes back a long, long way. And based on the images put up on the trailer, what else are you supposed to take from it? Especially if you’re not familiar with the franchise?

Even if you are familiar with the franchise, if you are familiar with those images and their historical weight, you look at it and say, “Man, that’s kind of messed up.”

...

...It’s a very strange thing, and it taps into sort of this very racist iconography. I think that’s the only way I’m describing it. I’m not saying that was their intent. But it seems that a lot of people who were up in arms about the trailer couldn’t see that and didn’t want to engage it.

I think, again, the point is not that Capcom can’t or shouldn’t make a zombie game set in what appears to be an impoverished country where the majority of residents are black. I’m not saying that. But what I am saying is that if I was Capcom, I wouldn’t have suggested to put out that trailer. I would have said, “You know what, this has tremendous capacity for being misunderstood, and we want to signal that this is not what you might think it is” — and they didn’t do that. That’s what I’m saying.

...

It’s like when you engage that kind of imagery you have to be careful with it... This imagery has a history. It has a history and you can’t pretend otherwise. That imagery still has a history that has to be engaged, that has to be understood. If you’re going to tread, if you’re going to engage imagery that has that potential, the onus is on the creator to be aware of that because there will be repercussions in the marketplace.

He's definitely wrong about that last part. Repercussions = $$$ =)

I think the audience isn’t demanding much change. They like the games they’re playing. They’re by and large comfortable with the amounts of stereotypes in their games.

I'm raping this game at the moment, that sir is a crime. Its pretty good. It definitely has a taste of its own.

Since I can't play it, I'm going to rain on the parade by continually posting articles about the "racial controversy" and negative reviews. Here's a twofer to get things started. =)

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/resident-evil-5-hands-on-chapter1to3?page=3

Somewhat ironically, it's at this point that the story really starts to kick in, and where fans will start to learn how the events of Resident Evil 5 tie in with the dense narrative tangle of the series. There are the usual melodramatic plot twists and cheesy revelations, but I'm not about to spoil any details. It shouldn't take much mental effort from fans to work out what might be involved.

There's a battle through an oil refinery where you're joined by a third character, Josh, followed by an airboat chase during which you have to jump ashore to find the buttons that will open the gates to continue. It all culminates in an even bigger boss battle against an aquatic creature, once again relying on conveniently placed mounted weapons to blast the weak spots to bits.

And so ends Chapter 3, and our time with the game. It's never less than visually impressive and the set-pieces are delivered with all the movie-style aplomb you'd expect. The controls are a struggle at first, but it's not difficult to accommodate the quirks with the aiming speed turned up and the fourth control option selected. Where the game seems weakest is in its reliance on a wonky AI model for the single-player, and a noticeable lack of scares. There are plenty of gory moments, some agreeably wacky monsters and enormous amounts of bullets fired, but the series' famous sense of dread and horror-movie pacing has been completely ditched in favour of all-out action. That your character is wandering around in broad daylight, with a constant and shapely companion, hardly helps to nurture a feeling of paranoid terror.

Sounds like I'm better off playing RE4, not just for my entertainment, but as detailed below, for my conscience. :griffnotevil:

shootblacks.jpg

There's also the spectre of the old racism debate, hovering the background. That debate is only going to get louder and more urgent once the game is released, and is being covered beyond the cosy world of the specialist gaming press, since there's imagery in here that goes beyond the general air of foreign menace that caused a ruckus in the first trailers.

One of the first things you see in the game, seconds after taking control of Chris Redfield, is a gang of African men brutally beating something in a sack. Animal or human, it's never revealed, but these are not infected Majini. There are no red bloodshot eyes. These are ordinary Africans, who stop and stare at you menacingly as you approach. Since the Majini are not undead corpses, and are capable of driving vehicles, handling weapons and even using guns, it makes the line between the infected monsters and African civilians uncomfortably vague. Where Africans are concerned, the game seems to be suggesting, bloodthirsty savagery just comes with the territory.

Later on, there's a cut-scene of a white blonde woman being dragged off, screaming, by black men. When you attempt to rescue her, she's been turned and must be killed. If this has any relevance to the story it's not apparent in the first three chapters, and it plays so blatantly into the old clichés of the dangerous "dark continent" and the primitive lust of its inhabitants that you'd swear the game was written in the 1920s. That Sheva neatly fits the approved Hollywood model of the light-skinned black heroine, and talks more like Lara Croft than her thickly-accented foes, merely compounds the problem rather than easing it. There are even more outrageous and outdated images to be found later in the game, stuff that I was honestly surprised to see in 2009, but Capcom has specifically asked that details of these scenes remain under wraps for now, whether for these reasons we don't know.

Wow, I mean, oh man, now I REALLY want to play it! :guts:

There will be plenty of people who refuse to see anything untoward in this material. "It wasn't racist when the enemies were Spanish in Resident Evil 4," goes the argument, but then the Spanish don't have the baggage of being stereotyped as subhuman animals for the past two hundred years. It's perfectly possible to use Africa as the setting for a powerful and troubling horror story, but when you're applying the concept of people being turned into savage monsters onto an actual ethnic group that has long been misrepresented as savage monsters, it's hard to see how elements of race weren't going to be a factor.

All it will take is for one mainstream media outlet to show the heroic Chris Redfield stamping on the face of a black woman, splattering her skull, and the controversy over Manhunt 2 will seem quaint by comparison. If we're going to accept this sort of imagery in games then questions are going be asked, these questions will have merit, and we're going to need a more convincing answer than "lol it's just a game."

Not only that, but it promotes animal cruelty! Well, I for one am, uhh... boycotting this game for it's wicked overtones! This will not stand!

That is, unless someone wants to let me borrow their 360 or PS3... ? :judo:

P.S. 360/PS3 comparison:

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/46684.html

Pretty indiscernible for the most part, there's parts I think look better on 360, and parts I think look better on PS3. The main difference seems to be slightly higher contrast on the 360, so it's pretty negligible, subjective, and easily changed on one's TV.

This game is amazing!! I can't find a single thing wrong with it. My friend and I played it till 8 in the morning. I'm loving every second of it, deff worth the wait.

You know I read all these reviews that seemed they vauled to focus on the negitive things about the game. Playing it, it really isn't bad, its really is great. IGN and ect, just picked out anything they could about it. Probably for the sole fact you can't walk and shoot at the same time. Waaah! This game is great, and it really hasn't been as cheesey as I thought it would be. I'm finding the general game kinda hard, but some of the bosses are easy. A strange contrast of balance, but it works.

I only fought one bossish like thing and it was fairly easy. I em enjoying this game the comp partner is pretty good its way better then I thought itted be from playing the demo. Its just a shame it took capcom to make 5 games till I liked the game play.

I'll be back.
I liked the previous game and RE2 is one of the ones I had alot of fun playing it. Of course to today's RE 5 looks old, but at its time it was enjoyable for me.

It's RE:UC...just in an RE2 setting. Which is what will al wanted in the first place. Little too late for me, they can keep it.

Yeah, a lot of people aren't happy that the Wii is getting another rail shooter. They would prefer something like RE 4,5's gameplay. A remake or a game that is sinificant to the RE serise. Not just a spin off.

Any how, I've gone through RE 5 twice, and Just like RE 4 is kinda gets better each time. I haven't even started the Battle game yet. RE 5 overall is worth the wait, it rarely isn't.

Well I'm a few hours into RE5. It's Resident Evil meets the Temple of Doom. This isn't the serious sequel I had wanted. It's fun but that's about it so far.
Jill
has literally morphed into Nina Williams. Say otherwise and you'll get smacked, cuz she has.

It's playable but I'll really have something of substance to say when I beat it.

Kudos to them for bringing back the Lickers.

Yea it was worth the wait. But I know what you mean with the "Temple of doom" thing. I didn't really care for all that stuff in the game. My friend on the other hand really liked how they did that. His exact words were "I love this Indian Jones shit"! I didn't say anything at the time but I didn't care for that part of that game too much.

I enjoyed the tribes. I think that was a very interesting aspect of the game. How they looked, and performed. But the puzzles and stuff was kinda a pain. But the ruins and etc, I think it was pretty good all around. I mean come on, if the game is taking place in Africa, you got to put something like that in there. The ONLY place I thought was bland, was the inside the ship stages. I thought maybe they could of done more with it. If it were me, I would maybe have the ship attacked, and half sunken or something. With water and pressure filling the room as you have to escape. But over all the ship stage was highly based on combat, and taking cover. Which, is alright, but I think out of the 4 different stages in it, all of them had you taking cover. They needed to change the pace.

This is probably true but a lot of people were upset that Leon and Claire were not in Umbrella Chronicles so this new game is pretty much for RE2 Fans and if I still had my Wii I would get it because I happen to be a huge RE2 fan.

That idea is pretty good, sounds like it would b an interesting playthrough there but also sounds like it might add some kind of odd water level puzzles which people may hate.
I did however have fun with that lazer at the end and if they had to kill Wesker I guess crash landing into a volcano was one of the best extreme ways they could do it. Also as a note, during his earlier boss fight were you free jill, I noticed that you could shoot off his glasses which he didn't like very much

Poor Barry not getting any more cameos in any games

That's some damn shitty spoiler tagging, even a retard could figure out who you're referring to. Please tag the whole sentence.

Sorry if I ruined the ENTIRE GAME for you. But, Ada makes a surprise appearance, Barry is confirmed dead, Sherry is now a mad scientist and Alice from the movies is referenced. Also Chris dies and the world implodes.

Dude, don't flip out or anything, but I believe that was pretty poor spoiler tagging. Please tag the whole sentence in the future, just to make sure. I mean, this game's only been out for a few days, the number of people that have played the game so far is relatively small, so it's best to stay on the safe side.
