Search for a geek soulmate

I was made aware of a Sci Fi Dating panel at NY Comic-con this year by a pal and she was going to participate in it. Sounded interesting and there are 3 episodes out on YT so far. She isn't sure if they'll feature her story but anyway, this's pretty interesting, cool stuff! What do you guys think?

Episode 1 - Alex is a true geek among geeks. Still living with his parents, this 25-year-old, board game loving, brony classifies his love life as a mix between "Forever Alone" and "Socially Awkward Penguin." Constantly finding himself stuck in the "friend zone," he decides to try his luck at Sci-Fi Speed Dating and see if he can find the redhead of his dreams. Will Alex be able to find Geek Love? - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQ5iwGApwLM

Episode 2 - Casey Anne is not your typical geek. She's blonde and beautiful, but don't let her good looks deceive you; this longtime Zelda fan has been gaming since the age of two. Casey's sexy cosplay outfits often intimidate guys, and most con-going males don't believe a girl with her looks could possibly be the real deal, no matter how many times she quotes Ganon. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_G-RdjJP-4o

Episode 3 - Brittany spends her days teaching kindergarten, but by night she lets her true geek colors fly. She's much more likely to spend her evenings gaming on her custom-built beast of a machine than braving the dating world, but lately she's been finding single-player a bit lonely. Now Brittany's looking for the prefect gamer to grow old and play co-op with. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=av1iA2O5LnE&feature=player_embedded

Is this for real, or a parody? Because I'm laughing pretty hard at the description of the first one.

It's pretty real ^_^, and it's a speed dating thing. After that particular episode came out, a lot of people said he
deserved a date for the kind of chap he is
. (in Spoiler for people who haven't watched the episode yet, didn't wanna spoil it)

It's kind of depressing. The first dude isn't even all that bad compared to some of the specimens you see online, he just needs to lose weight, get a job, get an apartment, recenter his hobbies on less lame stuff (i.e. not little girls' TV shows). Liking board games and comic books isn't the reason he doesn't have a girlfriend.

Oh god, watching these things hurt me so badly, I can't stop cringing. That guy needs to shave his neckbeard, learn that he can like something like MLP without obsessing over it, and stop fucking describing himself using internet memes. I don't really want to go into the whole "friendzone" thing, but whenever a guy says that I just automatically think less of them. No offense is really meant when I say that though... but look at just this site! You can see a few examples of guys/gals who obsess over a "Chinese rape comic" with spouses, kids, significant others, and even partners they met through the site in some cases.

Augh, watching this kind of thing just triggers something in me that makes me both angry and embarrassed.

I think the real scary thing about the first video is that I thought his cosplay was just his normal outfit.

Then you can be sure that she's an actor hired for the part. :carcus:

Sorry if I come across as callous. I just have zero pity for these kinds of guys who wear their loserdom proudly on their sleeve, fit so snugly into a derogative stereotype, and then complain about not getting laid. I've been into nerdy shit as far back as I can remember, and never had any trouble approaching girls growing up.

You know what girls like? Confidence. You know what they don't like? "Uhhh errr, err, uhh, err, err. I like ponies."

Oh man! :farnese: noooooooooooooooooooooo.

Totally agree on the stereotype part. I'm just shy but I'll keep quiet and do whatever in the corner or in the middle of group. I haven't done something mopey like the first guy. Who knows, there could be some potential at this sort of dating format haha. Everyone can't be thaaaaat lame. Maybe Skull Knight can sit across Wonderwoman and she'd dig him :ganishka: *kidding*. Speaking of stereotypes - long hair, beard, all black, no deodorant, \m/ signing on every song, calling everyone "brother" like Hulk Hogan, being a pit-boss, etc. - the metalhead thing is annoying.

Did you say ponies? :schierke:

I really don't feel like these things are any different than... the junk you see on tv, IE bachelor/bachelorette or the myriad of other hookup shows. It's just the other end of the spectrum.

Lol great clip, I love Tim and Eric.

I'm probably out of the loop because I don't meet too many people due to my job schedule, but are most Japanese anime and game fans seen like this? I never believed the stereotype because my close friends and I are the complete opposite so I never really got why people say those things, but maybe they are true for most people that are really into their hobby?

Update! Episode 4 and my pal is in it in the background for a few seconds

Episode 4 - Jimmy loves superheroes, especially Superman, and his passion has led this artistic geek to write his own comic! After a complicated breakup, he finds himself struggling to overcome trust issues that keep getting in the way of meeting new people. Jimmy's hoping Geek Love can reverse his fortune and help him hook up with the perfect sidekick. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=DnXvsxNhoRw

Serves him right :zodd:

Episode 5 - Nydia is a 28-year-old geek who's an avid gamer and huge Mario fan. She would wear costumes every day if she could get away with it. Recently she's realized all her friends are in serious relationships while she's still flying solo. All this NYC girl wants is to find a guy who will play some Mario Kart and geek out with her 24/7. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jL6j0nz3U2Q ... Cheetara!

Episode 6 - Mary's a movie fanatic who's hoping to meet a guy as cool as James Bond, as sexy as Stallone, and as funny as Bill Murray. It's a description that doesn't fit your typical geek, but this film buff likes to aim high. She's also sick of being single; hopefully Geek Love can find her the perfect guy to cuddle up and watch a movie with. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzhoyUo8onk ... she seemed cool.

Episode 7 - Anthony, a.k.a. The Anzinator, is a "superhero, EMT, taekwondo beast." In other words, he's a real-life superhero. By day he uses his CPR powers to save lives, but by night Anthony lives with his mom and devours all things South Park, Lord of the Rings, and Disney. He's hoping Geek Love can help him find the perfect Minnie to his Mickey. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPR9Q8YfjMA

Episode 8 - Kayla's heading to NYCC as the condesce from Homestuck. She is a closeted cosplay addict looking for someone who will accept her passion for dressing up in elaborate character costumes. This 24-year-old geek is a Home Health Aid who lives with the elderly couple she cares for and hopes to one day share the kind of love they have. Will Kayla's elaborate Homestuck outfit attract the geeks? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJJ3XmCJtoU ... haven't read the webcomic but she seemed cool, into anime so that would be an interesting conversation.
