You talked about how making him special devalues his character thematically. It's ironic, since what actually makes Guts special IS being just a human being who's "petty existence is beneath God Hand's notice," and who against all odds would have ultimately defeated Griffith and the God Hand.
 
Agressively contradictory against all of Miura's pre-established universe and lore, and constantly ever-changing because the new team doesn't know what they are doing with any of the lore is a pretty apt translation of what has been happening since the "continuation".

Miura's universe has been pretty consistent and well built until this "reprise" even if he had a few lengthy episodes where he worked on other projects, but he never deviated from his storyline and his grand ideas.

This continuation is so confusing and amateurish in storytelling, panelling, drawings and tiptoes into everything with surface level naming conventions picked up here and there from previous works but without the depth or meaning they were intended, as they are also making a lot of things up out of thin air that Miura CLEARLY knew and didn't intend at all for the character(s) (mainly guts here on this one) for is quite painfull to watch unfold, it's like a full slow motion destruction and surgical deconstruction of everything Guts was ment to be.

It's hard to not feel... At the very least, offended by what appears to be borderline disrespect for the source material. Not just disrespecting, it goes AGAINST fundamental established CORE principles of this universe and it's laws and what has been written black on white by Miura himself. That were not "free of interpretation" but pretty well carved in stone.

It's impossible that the people working on this, faithfully and truthfully READ Berserk. Simple as. Or if they did they have serious reading comprehension issues.
 
Great episode, I like Walter's attempt at playing devil's advocate and giving up midway through because this is so indefensible haha
