Smile

What do you do when you burn out on your heavy samurai epic? You draw smiles, lots of them, on twitter:

Judging from the recent hash tags (#tsunami, #prayforjapan) the latest flurry, 20 and counting in 6 hours, is obviously inspired by the earthquake and its aftermath. Though, the whole concept can't help but remind me of old man Yagyu's last advice to Musashi...

"Smile more."

Inoue certainly believes it.:ganishka:

I'll be back.
Pretty cool! Could they be people he has seen on tv or personally? I wonder? I also hope Miura shoes something similar or some kind of statement.

I was wondering if they might not be submitted via twitter considering the nature of the medium, but my fist assumption is they're from his imagination, especially considering the surreal nature of some of the earlier ones. Could be all of the above though.

That's always welcome, though something like this isn't his style.

Inoue is having them made into postcards, probably to fund the relief effort.

Another one that looked familiar ...

Hon'ami Koetsu

It also resembles Koun's master, Sadakore, and this one Koetsu as well:

Here's all the other familiar faces I could spot from Vagabond in addition to those and Yagyu, starting with these three, done consecutively:

Young Kojiro, Inshun, and granny Hon'iden. Then...

Another granny, and...

One of the first, a demon resembling Musashi's & Ittosai's sword demons. :guts:

Can anyone spot any other characters or motifs from his other works; for example, do those basketball kids resemble characters from Slam Dunk?

Good call on Inshun! I missed that one ... the others you posted I kinda had a feel for.

Pic 71 reminds me of a young Azumi (REAL)

Pic 66 is kinda like Kiyoharu (REAL)

Pic 12 bears a sliiiiight resemblance with the monk who helped Matahachi when his mom will ill, etc.
