New year's coming. :)

I want to know about each character's name in detail.
A few month ago,I looked up "Pippin" in a dictionary which saying like this;

1) Any of several varieties of apple
2) The seed of a fleshy fruit; a pip
3) Informal: A person or thing that is admired

very interesting thing to me!
Is Pippin an English name?

and let me know whatever you know about their names.
but no more Guts! ;D

bytheway) Why on earth everything draws my curiosity?
I do know I'm the one who makes too many threads but I can't help it.
I can't resist my endless, abundant, overflowing curiosity.
That's all.

Pippen could also be an allusion to Lord of the Rings, since apparently, Miura is a big sci-fi/fantasy buff.

well concerning the name of Griffith, there are a few quite interesting associations:

griffin 1: neuankömling or rookie,greenhorn

griffin 2: Greif , kind of a bird(resembles hawk)

griffon: weißköpfiger geier,whiteheaded bird

grifter: gauner,bad ass

grief:kummer, schmerz,pain, sorrow,bring to grief,come to grief

grieve:betrügen,to cheat

grievous:schmerzlich,painful

however i am on the right path or not,i find it very intresting what words that are resembling to griffith mean or represent!

"A midsummer night's dream" oh, I always think Pucks in the both are almost same.
"Ein Sommernachtstraum" is the title of Felix Mendelssohn's famous music, too.(Wedding March comes from it)

grifter: gauner,bad ass
ho! bad ass!
and "grifters" is a title of movie, too.
by Stephen Priers(damn spelling) where Angelica Houston, John Cousack and Annette Benning played. they were real bad-asses!! ;D

I'd like to aim the interest to Puck, the little elf.
Actually, his ( I dont like its for him :p ) name come from welsh fairy tale Pwca'r Trwyn. I think, indeed, Miura well-adaptated him for berserk. He hept his crazy behavior ....
I advise all of you to read the tale at http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/celt/wfb/wfb66.htm
Bucheddwch Pwca ! :D

I was also thinking of Godo the great blacksmith
Is he linked to the celtic blacksmith gods Goibnu ( irish ) and Gofannon ( welsh ) ?

anybody who knows if Serpico and Farneese are Italian name?
I searched internet and found Serpico is a name of Italian Mafia.
and I do want to know about Corkus.

Caska is not very familiar with me. ::)

Actually, Frank Serpico was an Italo-American policemen that denounced corruption and abuses in NYC police in the
' 60, if I'm not wrong. Sidney Lumet made out a film ("Serpico") from his life, with Al Pacino in the main role .
' Farnese ' , instead, was the name of an Italian ducal family that was at its climax during the XVI century. Its most famous members were Giulia Farnese (the "most beautiful" woman in Rome at that time, that people nicknamed "God's Bride" referring maliciously at her lust),
Paolo III Farnese (the pope that reorganized the Inquisition and promoted the Council of Trent and the Counter-Reform against protestants) and Alessandro Farnese (that was a brilliant diplomat and commander and leaded the catholic army in the Netherlands war).

I got an idea about Snake Baron

Maybe is he a baron with snake-like's form ?

More seriously, the origin of Pippin could be frenchy...
A king of franks who's name was Pépin le Bref ( 751 ) he was the son of Charles Martel , father of Charlemagne , grand-father of Pépin king of Italy an Carloman. With him began the dynasty of the Pippinides.

Me again ;D
I'm on Tudor/Tuda/Chuda empire ( you know how Japanese is hard to retranscript in romaji ) If i'm not mistaken, it's an empire from east, i'd place him more around Jerusalem ( without any relation with christianity ) :
The kingdom of Juda ( 931 - 587 BC ) is constitued of tribes from south of Palestinia, it's a rival of the Kingdom of Israel against which it fought endlessly.
I also have a clue for Kushan empire :
There's an empire called Kusana ( 1st - 2d century AC ) , created by the kusana :D some nomads from central Asia, in Kaboul's region and in India ( what explain the dusky skin of Sillat )
'hope you'll enjoy it !

No, I guess it's probably just "Tudor". "Tudor" is written "chu-da-" in Japanese, exactly like in Berserk.
Maybe Tudor was England and Midland was France? ^_^;;
I also have a clue for Kushan empire :
There's an empire called Kusana
... also called the "Kushan empire". Yeah, we knew that. ^_^;
That's the reason why I chose that spelling for "kusha-n", actually.

I got a thing 'bout Griff
It's welsh's originated :

In 1255, Llywelyn ap Gruffydd defeated his brothers Owain (d.1282) and Dafydd (d.1283), in battle at Bryn Derwin. Owain was imprisoned, and Llywelyn set about reasserting the authority of Gwynedd and thereafter extending it into a supremacy over much of the rest of Wales. In 1267 his position as overlord was recognized by Henry III in the Treaty of Montgomery when the English king accepted Llywelyn's homage as prince of Wales.

"Fe demptiodd ffawd ymhellach drwy drefnu i briodi Eleanor, merch y barwn gwrthryfelgar, Simon de Montfort, gweithred a oedd i brofi amynedd Edward i'r eithaf. "in english :
He tempted fate further by arranging to marry Eleanor, daughter of rebel baron Simon de Montfort, an act destined to strain Edward's patience to the limit.

Enough was enough, and in 1276-77 Edward had decided to settle accounts with the recalcitrant Welsh prince. Edward himself took the field at Chester in July 1277, and by August he had some 15,600 troops in his pay. Against these odds, Llywelyn had no choice but to sue for peace. The ensuing Treaty of Aberconwy represented a comprehensive humiliation for the prince of Wales. Stripped of his overlordship he had won ten years earlier, Gwynedd was again reduced to its traditional heartland to the west of the River Conwy.

He has been murdered the 11 December 1281

Isn't it kinda similar to our lil Griff ? ::)

If I were you, I'll reply 'bout what I wrote more seriously
well i will! but somehow i think: what i reply to ur posts depends on what u write!
if u hit a bad joke don t expect to get laugh, greetings, smileys or even serious reactions.
so far u r doing a good job and most of ur posts show knowledge interest and passion.

mmm...

i was thinking of Grundbeld, could he be linked to the arthurian Gundebald ? : feared as a powerful King of the land from which no-one would return alive...

i have a thought about griffith too .Everybody knows that he is the hawk : a bird of the Sun and therefore associated with the Sun Gods, a royal bird to many ancient societies and one that signifies the gift of prophecy. In Greek mythology the hawk was the messenger of 'Apollo' , in ancient Egypt with Ra and Horus and of the Great Mother Amenti.
i would like to notice that the arthur's nephew Gawain is a welshman named originally Gwalchmai which means "the hawk of may "

what do you mean?
you mean the name of Slann relating to Ceridwen or Slann herself ?

I love mythology very much! :D
but I don't know much about saga or Welsh mythology. :-X
It would be good if many kinds of myths are compared to Berserk's characters.

Slann? Oh, Lliug, could you tell us your Welsh myth(especially relating to Salnn) more fully?
