So, I had this question. Now, Intelligence is a lot more multi-faceted concept. I believe it's Griffith. He is smart, quick and military genius tactician and a great swordsman.
Rickert and Godo are also pretty close. They are great blacksmith and engineer.
Daiba and Flora knows a lot about magic and so I found it fitting to include them.
Serpico is quick witted and intelligent and reads his environment well. Although, Guts has defeated him, He is still smart in my eyes.

Ridiculous poll. There's only one correct answer.

Daiba knows less than Schierke. Irrelevant to include him here. Especially while omitting someone like Gedflynn!

Well, many of the characters listed above are offering wisdom as much as smarts.

Lifetime of wisdom would be Godo, built around blacksmithing. Or Flora. Both honed their skills and then trained equally impressive apprentices. By that logic we'd have to consider Hanarr as well.

How would their smarts compare to Griffith tactically leading Midland to victory in the 100 year war?

Sure, it would be more accurate to say Godot had wisdom to offer. Flora was genuinely smart in addition to being a wise old woman though. Guts himself remarks on how quickly she picked things up.

Exactly, it is not a question of whether any of them is smart. I'm just trying to parse through this idea of what makes someone the smartest, because I find the selection confusing.

I agree with Griffith having superior tactical intelligence. His ability to scheme and plan things out at great length is pretty astounding, although his impulsiveness holds him back imo. Just finished the story for the first time recently and kinda read the whole thing in short bursts, so I might've skimmed over what makes void so intelligent.

Well I mean he does have a giant brain for starters, so you might say that's a clue. Then there's the fact he appears to be the mastermind behind the God Hand's plan for world domination (or whatever it is).

That's fair, he definitely seems smart in that case. It's definitely plausible that he's a lot smarter than Griffith. I'd say that it's pretty likely he's the most intelligent then. But I think we've definitely seen Griffith's intelligence more throughout the story, which I guess is why I voted for him. I have a pretty big pet peeve for when stories try to convince us that an average character is intelligent by telling us that rather than showing, but I think it makes perfect sense for Void to be the smartest here.

Void is so intelligent that he has to strap extra brain matter around his waist to carry the extra intelligence that even his already oversized brain can't store. Why do you think he's always wearing that Giger-esque robe that covers his entire body? For style? Well, I guess it is rather stylish, but it's got practical use too!
