Who's getting the Nintendo Switch 2?

I don't think I've ever bought a console at launch before. Certainly I've stood in lines for games at launch. I remember waiting for Ocarina of Time at a Babbages in 1998, during Thanksgiving break (what timing!). That was probably the first launch I participated in. But for the last 20 years, I've mostly been a PC guy. I didn't get the Switch 1 at launch. I waited to see if it seemed worth it, after the travesty of the WiiU. So, I waited a month or so until the hype around BotW was so palpable it was irresistible to me, and even then it was hard to find one.

And here I am now, with a 12 year old son who loves his (my) Switch and has played it far, FAR more than I ever have. And I'm loading up three websites, and ensuring I have my credit cards loaded, mostly for him. Because yeah, Mario Kart World seems like it'll be neat. But if it were just me, I really doubt I'd be staying up til midnight tonight trying to secure a launch Switch 2 console with pack-in. I'd just wait a few months, no problem.

Here's hoping! (for my son, not for me....)

Nice! Well, no luck for me, so far. I've been "in line" at Best Buy's site (and the app) for about 10 minutes after they finally opened it. And I've been "in line" on Walmart's site for about 20 minutes. And Target finally admitted they'd sold out after 30 minutes of payment processing errors on their side.

I got lucky. I downloaded Targets app and spammed the "add to cart" over and over and got it to stick. Got the confirmation email too. Keep trying!! I believe in you!!

Got one from Best Buy, had to resort to the non-bundle. Oh well. I'll take what I can get!

That was... not a fun process. I've been refreshing screens and my phone for the past hour and a half. That shit's stressful. Time to sleep so I can be up again in 5 hours.

Talked about this on the chat, Nintendo revealed oficial prices for Brazil Sales with only the console price being R$ 4.500,00(Brazilian Reais), for today exchange rates(that are actually low, so it may be even more) it's 695,25 EUR and 792 USD, the bundle with Mario Kart World it's almost $850.

Well, with that prices I'll absolutely not buying it right now, but I had options to buy it at least until end of the year, if everything goes well for my eurotrip I'll try to bring one as luggage, or I'll try to import from the US if my current provider ensure he can work out with the new Trump Tariffs.

Until then, wish a nice gameplay to you guys!

Having spent nearly a week with the Switch 2, I have some early impressions of the console.

It's a sizable upgrade from the previous Switch. The screen is a few inches larger, though in fairness, I rarely play it portably, so that hardly matters to me.

From my perspective, the most important physical upgrade is that the console's construction is more firm and sturdy. When holding the old Switch, it felt like a toy. By merely resting my thumbs on the joysticks, you could feel them wiggling a bit. The old joycons used to connect to the console through a flimsy slide mechanism that never felt super secure. Any slight twisting motion with your wrists caused them to bend away from the unit, which added to its toy-like feeling. Now, some kind of magnet magic is used to connect the joycons to the console. When assembled, the unit looks and feels sleek. The connected joycons leave a slight gap between them and the console. A thin vertical stripe of red/blue peeks through. It's a subtle touch of color for the otherwise all-black unit.

The other substantial upgrade is of course the hardware. I've been seriously impressed by how seamlessly Nintendo has upgraded some of the console's older games. Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Link's Awakening, and Mario Odyssey all now run at 4K @ 60fps, and it feels incredible. In the case of Link's Awakening, the original release ran so poorly I couldn't play more than a few minutes. So it's basically a whole new game for me. As a result, instead of playing launch games like Mario Kart World, I'm playing older games, driven by a feeling similar to having just upgraded my PC and seeing how the new rig improves things. I was excited about this prospect before, but I also wasn't fully convinced they'd allow older games to embrace the new hardware quite as much as this. I've never been happier about being wrong.

My son really loves the sounds in the UI. There's little bell and tick-tick sounds to every movement. I do kind of miss the menu music Nintendo's older consoles used to have, but these tiny sound effects imbue the machine with a little personality.

My biggest complaint is the launch lineup. Nintendo has had years to prepare for this, but all they had on release was Mario Kart World. I really would have appreciated more variety from Nintendo. Certainly, there are ample numbers of third-party releases, but there always are for console launches. And yes, we only have to wait a month for Donkey Kong Bananza. But that delay feels like Nintendo forcing a spotlight on Mario Kart, instead of letting us pick our experience. Relief will be delivered, of course. Between launch and the holidays, I fully anticipate they'll have at least 4 solid console exclusives: Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, Metroid Prime, and probably a new 3D Mario (surprise!). So from that perspective, who cares about this initial launch window? Well... me. The fact that I'm choosing to play older games instead of newer games is testament to them flubbing the lineup for people like me.
