Field Of Dreams? really?

Out of all those, that's the only entry you found questionable? I did forget to mention Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (Costner again!). :carcus:

Anyway, how dare you, why not Field of Dreams? It's an effective sentimental yarn about life, family, baseball, the 60's, and J.D. Salinger (if he were a black man =).

Oh yeah, and I added In the Mouth of Madness since I was reminded of it here and quite like it, though I think for different, albeit unintended, reasons.

If I had to pick one....probably Hero. No, actually Infernal Affairs. NO DONT MAKE ME DO THIS

Oh and I don't know if anime movies count separately, but I am quite in love with the Rebuild of Evangelion so far.

I was wondering if I should nominate End of Evangelion as my favorite movie, but I decided against it since it's debatable whether it can be seen as a standalone movie or not.

Thus my # 1 choice is Battle Royale. I expected to see an entertaining movie about teenagers killing each others or maybe a cheap commentary on the future of reality TV-shows, but it made a much deeper impression on me. Endlessly thought-provoking in spite of some flaws (which I didn't get until I read the more fleshed out book and manga). It was partially responsible for getting me into Asian movies and manga.

Contenders for silver medal: 5 Centimetres per Second, 12 Angry Men, Alien, Aliens, Audition, Beetlejuice, Blade Runner, Brazil, Das Experiment, Dinner Rush, Festen, Fight Club, Grave of the Fireflies, Funny Games, Grosse Point Blank, Heathers, House of Sand and Fog, Idi i Smotri, Interstella 5555, Irreversible, Let the Right one In, Lilja 4 Ever, Lost Highway, Martyrs, Ondskan, The Sweet Hereafter, Threads, Titus, Zelig.

I'm still not quite sure how I feel about 5CM/sec. On one hand, it's a really touching/sad story, on the other I feel like it was poorly executed at some points (namely the little "music video" at the end). I suppose if I were to add in some favorite anime movies, I'd probably include Kara no Kyoukai 5: Mujun Rasen, Princess Mononoke, Totoro, and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.

If I had to pick a favorite movie, I'll have to be think about the movie I've watched the most times from beginning to end.

ALIENS

I must have watched it hundreds, if not literally, a thousand times in my lifetime thus far.

Se7en is also a movie that whenever I begin to watch it, I feel like I've never seen it before. My eyes drift and I begin to focus on the the background, the extras, the wallpaper, etc.

Oh and Old Boy was a big time favorite for years.

I think he's serious dude. I like some highbrow films myself, but my favorite teen comedy is Encino Man :carcus:

Angel Heart
John Carpenter's The Thing
T2
Jacob's Ladder
JFK
The Truman Show
The Road (just saw it last weekend...wow)
Alien & Aliens
Blade Runner

That's all that comes to mind right now.

Have you seen The Goonies?
I tear up everytime I eat a babyruth or hear Cindy Lauper on the radio! :judo:

Of course, I could go with some of my other pretentious choices, but why bother? =)

It's also a good movie to watch drunk with friends and have a laugh at. Underrated for its versatile enjoyment actually, depending on how seriously you want to take it on a particular viewing.

Speaking of which, I have an interesting movie watching story to share that's probably one of my favorite movie experiences, even though I can't call it one of my favorite movies. Total Recall isn't on that list because although I've sat through it twice, in both cases I became so blackout drunk that I can't remember the majority of it, scenes are jumbled together, it jumps in and out, and even though I can remember a lot of things, they're all out of order, don't make sense, and I can't be sure what was real and what I imagined due to how I perceived it (adding to the confusion, it just seemed full of crazy shit anyway). So, while I still haven't really seen Total Recall coherently from beginning to end, I kind of feel like I did one better and lived it, and at this point would avoid seeing it again sober so as not to ruin the experience.

Can't blame you. I haven't seen the movie since I was 10, but I have nothing but the fondest memories of it. Something about the lack of clear memories that makes you remember a movie so fondly.

Totally agree. I've watched that movie so many times, in so many different situations. And i always enjoyed it, not matter what mood i was in.

So, that means you lived it like Ahnolds character.

Yeah, I comprehended just enough of what was going on to feel that way while watching without consciously thinking about it, only to appreciate the irony later. I would go in and out of consciousness during a scene (in one case, jarred awake by Arnold escaping the memory place) and have no idea if I'd been out for five minutes or an hour and therefore had no idea if what I was watching was from the beginning, middle, or end of the movie. The key is that this same thing happened over two different viewings, so I was in and out of different parts of those different viewings, and now the memories all run together, making it truly impossible to straighten out. If someone could somehow consistently recreate and regulate this experience, 3D fare like Avatar would be dead... oh wait, it's called alcoholism. =)

Funny aside on that note, this has never happened to me with another movie, but somehow twice with Total Recall, and the only reason I watched it the second time was to straighten it out after what happened the first time, only to have it happen again... very strange, ironic, and yet somehow fitting.

Tiredness and alcohol aside, it's no surprise Total Recall is hard to follow. It's based on a Philip K. Dick novel.

My Favourite movie of all time.

Also just to get this out of the way now, I've taken my time to see the flaws of the Live Action TF movies. They're decent, but I wont go any further than that.

Haahahaha. :serpico: I have to admit I've watched oldschool Transformers the Movie more times than anything else ever. And I still enjoy the hell out of it. It's so awesome. If you have to knock out your old toylines to make room for new ones, at least make sure you murder them all horribly. :rakshas:

And I still really dig that Vince DiCola soundtrack too.

After that, for a long, long time, Terminator 2 was my favorite movie ever ever.

Then The Adventures of Baron Munchausen was my favorite movie ever.

Now I'm not sure. Withnail & I is definitely one of my post-college favorites though.

And I absolutely love Muppet Treasure Island but I'm not sure exactly why. I remember on first viewing I was just kind of like 'eh' but if I watch it now I'm cracking up practically the whole movie. Except the romantic song, because just STOP. JUST STOP.

Oh man, that scene was fucking insane and intense. The first time I saw it was at 4am with no sleep for a few days(a showing at a convention) so it was even more crazy to me at the time.
