Your Favorite Movie (general movie thread)

I know it's cliche, but I think this is a fun topic and usually sparks some interesting debate. I also know it's next to impossible to only list just one movie, since there's dozens of genres and we all tend to feel differently about different movies depending on our mood and whatnot, so I just want everyone to list what comes off the top of their head.

I'll start:

STAR WARS

Who can deny that they don't love the original trilogy? No one above the age of 20 I'd imagine. My favorite is The Empire Strikes Back, personally, but really, the trilogy should be seen as one movie in my opinion. Great, great filmmaking. I hardly ever just watch one of them at a time... just doesn't seem right!

Donnie Darko's always held a special place in my heart. From the same creator, I actually enjoyed Southland Tales quite a bit as well. I haven't seen this writer/director's latest work, The Box, but I intend to at some time soon.

Also, I have to throw some respect toward Sin City. Being a huge comic book nerd, this movie just hit the mark for me. To this day I wonder why more filmmakers don't follow in it's steps. I mean, a comic book is basically a storyboard for a movie! I've even heard comic book artists comment that they often play out their stories in their heads as if they were movies, then draw them using those "camera angles". It blows my mind that more filmmakers don't seem to understand that. Anyway....

As for comedy, I can't help but say Grandma's Boy. A few years back when I lived with two other nerdy guys who, just like me, loved to party and play video games this movie was basically the default background noise. I still laugh out loud to most of it to this day... 3000 views later.

I figure I should probably mention some anime, even though I'm not really a subscriber anymore. I absolutely love the 8-Man After movie, as old as it is. I also enjoy Macross: Do You Remember Love?, Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Vampire Hunter D (the original), and Nausicaa: Of the Valley of the Wind.

Number one movie for me? Mother fucking Aliens. Everything an action movie should have. Aliens, bad ass space marines, sigorny weaver, and BAD POWER LOADER FIGHT SCENE! :badbone:

I wonder when H.P. Lovecraft is going to get a blockbuster. Check out the XBOX game "Call of Cthulhu" game its pretty cool story wise.

Amadeus is my all time favorite movie.

This thread is to bland for fun topic like this, let me bring some life to it.

For me it would be a tie between a few of my favorite films. This pretty much covers all the ground for me.

You have good taste in movies Oburi, besides Eternal Sunshine.. Seven Samurai definitely ranks among my favorite films, and Once Upon a Time in America may be my overall favorite as well. Deer Hunter is another masterpiece starring DeNiro. Here's some others that hold a very dear place in my heart:

Yea Aufond Dead Man all the way, I can't believe I forgot that, I watch it all the time. And my favorite Lynch film would have to be Blue Velvet or Mulholland Drive, though I did like Lost Highway a lot.

It was most probably an accident, but just so you realize three out of your top four feature a young Harrison Ford.

Obviously a coincidence! :slan:

Love this movie as well. I feel it's underrated.

It's just no coincidence that Harrison Ford, a widely acclaimed actor, played in 3 excellent movies that are arguably classics of the late 70s/early 80s, each in its own genre.

Seriously some of you guys, the topic says "your favourite movie". Movie, not movies!
It's so easy to list a bunch of movies that we like, so why does these topics always go that route? Make a freaking effort!

Lovecrafts writing doesn't translate well to cinema (most of the adaptations so far have little to do with the stories they take their titles from, and are poorly acted b-movies). Specially in this era of CGI "show it all". In The Mouth of Madness is the closest to a Lovecraftian movie, but it's flawed, low-budget and has some crappy cheap effects here and there. But the script is ingenious and Sam Neil plays it brilliantly. It's criminally underrated, specially because it came out in the 90s, where good, intelligent horror movies were scarce. I guess this one stole my heart since i was young, that's why it's my favourite.
The game was good, but it had alot of bugs, i accompanied it since the first stages of development, back in 2002 i think, in the CoC forums.

Btw, http://chipsdriver.ytmnd.com/ :serpico:

Here's a confession (since some of you love this movie): i only saw the complete Star Wars trilogy late into my teens. Never really cared about it, found it a bit too silly and juvenile.
Was mostly a fan of sci-fi horror. Got hooked when i was introduced to Alien by my dad (was 8 or 9y old). Then later discovered Predator. And became a man. :guts:

P.S. - I showed my girlfriend Blade Runner the other day and now it's one of her favorite movies, as well. Another successful conversion!
