I don't have a list for Image and Dark Horse, if you can find one that updates often feel free to post it. Otherwise I have to enter each one manually. BPRD: Hell on Earth Gods #2 is out this week, but that's the only one I can think of off the top of my head. :carcus:

I miss my comic book and card collecting days. I think it all started with the Wolverine Series 2 card set, which basically retold his life (in card form), circulating around my elementary school (I still remember the most desired one, which is just him in his yellow suit, it's pretty modest) and I became interested in actually getting them for myself. This led to quite a few card collections such as Marvel Masterpieces series 1 & 2, the X-Men series and others.

The crown jewel of my comic collection is probably Incredible Hulk #180, featuring the first appearance of Wolverine. Some other favorites (for good or so bad they're good) include a signed Death of Superman, Star Wars #1, Wolverine #1 (both the limited and ongoing series), Gambit limited series including gold cover #1, Dead Pool The Circle Chase and #1 of his ongoing series, polybagged Spider-Man #1, Ren & Stimpy featuring Spider-Man, the FATAL ATTRACTIONS series including signed X-Men 25 where Wolvie loses his adamantium, The Simpsons #1, Radioactive Man #1, Lady Deathstrike #1 (hey, remember that one?), Spawn #1, the disappointing Marvel vs DC crossover and Amalgam comics Dark Claw (combining my favorite Marvel and DC characters, lucky me), and of course my Married with Children #1 Kelly Bundy special signed by the entire cast. :carcus:

That's what just came to me off the top of my head, I'm sure I'm forgetting some worthy mentions.

I tend to like the movies and cartoons more than the comics they're based on.

I feel the same way. I'm a huge fan of the old batman and superman cartoons. But I can never really delve into comic books like I can a Manga like Berserk. I have a pretty decent sized box of comics, since it's a bit of a tradition in our family to get comic books for Christmas/Birthdays. Some of the novel-sized stuff I really enjoy. Particularly Watchmen, Batman vs. Predator and the whole Superman vs. Doomsday collection. I think it has to do mainly with the story being localized into one big volume. I get a little overwhelmed by all the various story arcs and versions comics have. It seems like it would be difficult to track down all the issues to understand what's going on. Just my personal preference. It's a whole new world, I've just never gotten "into" it besides reading a stray out of order comic here and there for kicks.

Then... Just buy trades? That's what I do normally anyway. You don't have to buy single issues to buy comics.

The only really big difference in my opinion is the use of color and computer graphics. Though I have to say I treasure my X-Men: Onslaught series, Age of Apocalypse and Death of Superman series almost as much as my Berserk merchandise.

Why don't the Japanese like to use color anyway? Some of them use computer graphics now but still no color... has anyone figured that out?

It's not a big mystery. First of all, it's cheaper to print black and white. And most manga is serialized in publications similar to Young Animal. In addition to that, manga usually have much more frequent releases than US comics.

Not to mention much smaller teams working on it usually.

I would still like to know what he means by "computer graphics." Is he talking about digital inking/coloring?
Masamune Shirow employs computers for special effects pretty regularly: http://www.allposters.com/IMAGES/DMS/MEP271.jpg

I recommend Hellblazer, specially the Delano run, amazing comics. And everything by Alan Moore of course.
I really enjoyed Claremont's X-Men when i was a youngster. Sandman too. Other than these i don't really appreciate comics these days.

This, except replace Delano with Ennis/Milligan, and replace Alan Moore with Grant Morrison.

Delano is so much better than every other Hellblazer writer, i thought this was a widely accepted "fact".
As for Moore vs Morrison, they're in a different class i believe.

I thought Delano was a lot more inconsistent than most of the others. He did some really great stories, yeah, but he also wrote some total turds that are a waste of ink.

And yeah Morrison is in a different class than Moore, he's actually a good writer and doesn't rely entirely on a gimmick of being so freakin wacky and lol quirky. Hey guys, Moore lives in a hobbit house!!! And wrote a book of child pornography! Haha, he's so crazy.

Inconsistent? He wrote the best Hellblazer stories like The Horrorist and Family Man. Of everyone, you actually picked the most inconsistent of them all - Ennis. His Constantine is just a prick with no real depth.

Please explain how in the hell does Moore's gimicky "wacky" living translates into his work, because i don't see any of it.
V for Vendetta, his Swamp Thing run, Watchmen, From Hell are all masterpieces. And The Killing Joke is probably the best Joker story ever written.

You're a comic book fan that doesn't like Alan Moore!? You're so different!

Yeah, and it doesn't work that way either, if anything his eccentric behavior is accepted on the strength of his work, not the other way around. A lesson for all.

Congrats you posted the only good things he's done (except Watchmen which is awful, and is only notable because it was a departure for its time, could replace that with Miracleman). Now look at the millions of other piles of shit he's written.

Yeah, he wrote some of the best. And some of the worst (outside that one chick whose name I forget who everyone hates). I haven't read all of Ennis, but from what I've read (Dangerous Habits, Fear and Loathing, Tainted Love) he's been far more consistent both in characterization of Constantine and quality of the story arcs.

e: there's a difference between comedic absurdity and Moore's bizarre shit that he parlays into a public persona that makes people think "whoa if he's this crazy he MUST be a good writer!"

I'm pretty convinced that people who like Alan Moore only do so so they can seem Intelligent and Cultured, Ahem, in front of their peers or something. Yeah, he wrote a few good things. He still isn't very good overall, and he's probably the most overrated author ever.

I personally had a lot of issues with this story. Namely giving The Joker any sort of background and trying to play him out as sympathetic. Not that he should be a shallow character, but there felt to be much more elaboration than needed. Also him and Batman laughing the whole thing off while Gordon is probably still buck naked someplace was goddamn retarded. Batgirl got shot in the spine tho, that was rad. Really that was the only important intended event from that story, a lot of the Red Hood stuff we got later was thanks to other writers building upon that.

It's still essential if you're going to read Batman, and I should add that I did like it, but it irks me when people say it's a defining comic for the character when it really goes against the grain in a lot of places.
