Good Japanese TV?

I have been looking for a new series of sorts to get into, but nothing has really stoop out to me lately.

Does anyone know of any good Japanese dramas or series that are worth getting into? I think I feel like something different, and outside of Anime and a few Jap movies I haven't seen or heard of much.

Not really looking for new Anime titles, unless there's some really really good Anime series I don't know about.

Meh not that I can really think of. That is ofcourse if you havent seen Densha Otoko. If you havent, go ahead and aquire it and watch it. Its good to watch. Dont get the movie but the actuall series.

Also with the other dramas they have new ones coming out all the time but mostly for women. I like to watch the comedy shows which over here right now is Wensday and there are assloads of them on tonight! :carcus:

I saw the movie version on a flight to Japan last year, and I thought it was pretty neat. Certainly took me by surprise.

I try to see as many music station airings I can nowadays, just trying to keep myself up to date with the latest in the music scene.

I know your looking more for series but have you seen John Woo's Hong Kong action flicks, they are fucking awesome. Also lately I've been watching this new thing on ifc where every Friday they play japan horror flicks like audition and The Eye and Ringu. Also I ordered these movies even though I haven't seen them. Umm Versus, Duel to the Death and Dead or Alive trilogy. Plus I love all the old samurai flicks like Lone wolf and cub, lady snowblood, the 20 something Zatoichi movies. Anything by Beat Tekashi is good and the guy who did Oldboy and the Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (his name escapes me) But those are all movies; are you specifically looking for TV shows? Also I just started watching Basilisk, it's an anime that ifc will start airing now that samurai 7 is over (thank god) I thought the first episode was really cool.

Those aren't TV shows. And Oldboy's director is Chan-wook Park. His newest movie is Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.

GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka) is good J drama. there's also a hilarious anime but the J drama version is better. just like with Densha Otoko just go for the series (12 episodes) and don't bother with the TV special or movie.

I saw one Episode of the GTO live action series a while back, sounds like it'd be worth watching some others. Will also take a look into this Densha Otoko series. From the sounds of things it's the Drama equivalent to something like Love Hina, or Chobits or something, but hey why not? ;D

Thanks for the replies.

Densha Otoko is based on a true story granted the things taking place on the series are exaggerated they are roughly the events of what happened. Pretty much this Otaku manges to save this beautiful women on a train who was getting harassed by some drunk guy.

I didn't give anything away which you wouldn't have seen in the first episode. So don't worry! :casca:

Also there's a TV series called Trick it's sorta a Detective show with comedy in it. I watched this TV series in my local Japanese Channel where they show Live Action TV shows. It's one of my favorites Live Action TV shows very enjoyable to watch.

It's.... interesting, I'm curious to see a few eps, but I don't know if I can get into it enough to see the whole series. Now I know better than to look into such a show logically, but what was with all opening and the Aliens?!

I also found a show called "Akihabara deep search" but haven't seen it yet. For me It's sort of a rose coloured lenses decision; I had to as Akihabara is the Tokyo district I perhaps want to visit more than any others when I go to Japan.

Thanks for the Trick recommendation ZoddGuts, will look into.

Iv been there once and it was the most glorious thing ever. I get to go to Tokyo every year for a conference and I will definitely be hitting that place up again. From its wall to wall electronics, 4 story porno houses, along with "Kabobs". This is nerd heaven, that and the Maid Cafe's :carcus:

As for the person who posted Hard Gay A.K.A HG Razor Ramon (not the WWF wrestler). He is still popular over here but he doesnt do as many funny skits like he did back in the day when he first came on. He is a smart guy (went to the 2nd best college in Japan) and he knows that the gravy train of HG wont last him for ever, he also just got married to an idol so its kinda weird to have him called Hard Gay while he is married to a hot chick!

Anyways, look on youtube for shows on him. Pretty damn funny!
