What are you listening to? (general music thread)

Yeah, "All Nightmare Long" was great. I think the most disappointing one for me was "The Unforgiven III." Other than that I really enjoyed it and can't wait for the next one. :serpico:

Listening to the solo on Unforgiven III right now... I'll forgive it. =)

Actually, I like that track, I think it's good on its own and helps keep the album balanced and dynamic for what it's worth. Musically it actually reminds me of mid to late 90's Megadeth.

Couldn't handle the whole album in one sitting. Too tiresome and boring. Long songs need more dynamics or trance-like inducing riffs (like in stoner/doom) to keep me interested.

Check out the 10y old kid crowdsurfing at 4:15 ... Good times.
After that i'm going to put some MSTRKRFT http://www.myspace.com/mstrkrft - From a member of Death from Above 1979 (no relation).

Holy shit, they have a new album?! Buying today...

12 hours later:

Gotta say, this album's been a real disappointment. Ive listened to it twice through and it's just not as ambitious as Cookie Mountain. I honestly thought I was listening to Peter Frampton at one point. Ugh.

The new Tallica album is pretty fun to play on guitar hero. I'm really enjoying it. I also got a free download of the Berlin O2 Arena concert. Which was really good. I can't wait from them to hit North America.

I've heard similar complaints (though none comparing it to Frampton yet; that's all you Wally), and I just don't get 'em. I've listened to the album several times and it grows on me all the more each time. Of course, I was never this familiar with Cookie Mountain, but I do know that that was their best to date. Is this better than Cookie Mountain? Um, I dunno. It's different. And it suits me fine for what it is.

Yes, I think Cookie Mountain was their pinnacle, no pun intended.

And OF COURSE, since I hated the new album, Pitchfork LOVES it. It's nearly always the case. http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/record_review/145780-tv-on-the-radio-dear-science

They also gave Death Magnetic a 4.9 Fucking snobs. I wrote them a nasty email telling them to stick to their trendy shit.

I don't really pay much attention to Pitchfork, and yes, i agree, the site in general is page to page douchebaggery and snobbishness, but here I will agree with them.
It's really unfortunate you can't hear the virtues of this album; this is by no means terrible. "Shout Me Out" and "DLZ" are two of the best songs I've heard this year. The lyrics are wonderful, especially to "DLZ."

Meh, maybe it's a grower. I certainly wouldn't give up on it. Maybe revisit it later after your initial opinions have been forgotten??

Speaking of Death Magnetic and dynamics, how many people have listened to the Guitar Hero 3 rip? It's really the only way to actually hear the album as far as I'm concerned. Passages come to life that just sounded like static mush on the overloud and clippy CD release. It's a shame really.

Also, for those interested in the new AC/DC coming out later this month, check out the Nerd's take on their old releases and how they got fucked up. A good view for anyone really interested in their catalogue.

And I'll say it again, hardest working guy on the Internet.

I've heard it, and the difference is astronomical. It's so much better mixed on the GH version. But i lost my interest in the album pretty fast, so i don't care anymore. I guess they wanted it to be loud-as-fuck to compensate for the lack of good songwritting. Just another bad approach from the band's part to try to stay on the "edge"!!!1!1 Well, the album is selling like hotcakes so they probably think it sounds great.

Interesting video. I can't wait to hear their new album, i was big fan of AC/DC when i was young. Ballbreaker was the first cd i ever bought.

Ah! They removed a song cause it was about crabs? And damn, the Nerd just never stops making videos. Busy fella.

Not to pussify things again or anything, but i've been listening to these guys lately:

From what they've played on the radio, it sounds like the rest of their stuff.  If it ain't broke, Angus won't fix it (and I don't want him to). :guts:

Hahahaha, we'll see what happens come Nov. 25. Maybe Axle will need a few more years to fine-tune it.

Also, I think the cover art they have displayed there works perfectly.

Yeah, it should be blank with white text, "Cover not up to specifications, will hopefully be available 2009."

Hey all, Im pretty new to forums, some of you have probably chatted with me on other parts of forum; but to all those who havent, HIYA! As far as music goes, I am into most genres. The music I listen to tends to change from time to time, at the moment Ive been listening to underground hip hop/rap. Its much better than all the commercial rap out there, they all give rap a bad name. A few artists I really like are Wale, Lupe Fiasco (his mixtapes), Gang Starr, Army of the Pharaohs, Canibus, Foreign Exchange, OGC, Heltah Skeltah, Masta Ace, the list goes on and on.

Im also a big fan of indy rock, rock (not so much the heavy stuff), little country, even some old stuff like Mozart. I love music so much, and i always seem to have my ipod on my person 24/7. Some animes that i watch also have great soundtracks, cant name any of the songs names but I can name the animes. Well thats about it for me.

Fleetfoxes was one group that I always wanted to get into but kept forgetting about. I'm loving it right now and it is the perfect music for the coming fall. Thank you Falcon!
