As dreadful Film news goes this is by far the worst. Actor Nicol Williamson better known for his performace as Merlin in John Boorman's Excalibur has died.

But back on Topic:

Several Remake projects to avoid:

The Evil Dead
The Birds
The Omen
Total Recall
Judge Dredd
Scarface
Hellraiser
Puppet Master
The Prophecy
Pumpkin Head

I attempted to watch Rubber on Netflix last night. Painful. Didn't make it 20 minutes in...

It's a movie about a tire. That kills things. No, seriously.

I agree, none of those are films I would really need to see a remake of, (if I had to choose, maybe the Birds would be interesting), I'm someone who believes that Remakes would be great if they remade bad films, with potential, to make it a modern day classic, I can't think of any examples but I'm 100% sure there are some films that are bad but could have been good.

Oh actually, here's an example, I wouldn't mind the Star Wars prequels being remade, I didn't hate the prequels like some people did, but they did have plenty of flaws.

One remake I never want to see is Jaws, if they remake that, I'm gonna rip out all the hair on the top of my head.

Someone needs to mercy kill this franchise. Enough is enough.
I'll need a list of people who have seen these movies in theaters. For my personal records. :femto:

Oh hey, look at that... Director: Paul W.S. Anderson

I'll own up to see the first in the theatre. The second I saw on DVD, borrowed from a friend. The third? Netflix. I don't plan on wasting any more hours of my life.

This caliber of plot isn't even enough for a 1/2 hour TV show. At least it isn't a Godfather remake or a Lord of the Rings reboot.
Please don't take this as me thinking this is a great movie or anything, because this looks kinda like garbage, but I don't think it's necessarily a bad idea to have a movie's plot be loose and focused on one night, rather than something like the predictable, sprawling dramas most screens are filled with. I think it's a neat concept. And even if its core is hollow, it's at least a different approach to the traditional teen flicks.

With all those crowd shots and "the director of The Hangover", I imagine the extras are REALLY going to ruin that film :ganishka:

A single review may not give you an accurate impression of the movie. Sometimes the reviewers are morons, smart trolls masquerading as morons, or people who simply have different taste.

I don't recommend anyone clicking that link. It launched a full-page ad for Divx which then began auto-downloading an exe. Not cool... :femto:

Strange, does not do that for me. Maybe the .exe is already on my machine and eating away at it? :( I'll take it down though just in case.

I thought for sure this had to be a hoax or some kind of joke when a friend linked it to me... but then I read the IMDb page and, well, it is what it is.

Unfortunately, it looks like it's actually going to take itself seriously. Maybe they'll change their minds and decide to go completely over the top with it.

It's based on a book too ! I haven't read it so i can't tell you if it's any good.

Have you heard about this movie, 'Hunger Games'? It's about teenagers who are trapped somewhere and forced to kill each other to survive. It looks like a complete rip-off of 'Battle Royale', but the press is so unbelievably excited about it.

Yeah, the premise is far from fresh. Critics like it though :judo:

I glanced at the reviews. Some do not mention 'Battle Royale' at all and the ones that do only mention it in passing. There are only 6 reviews out though.

Its 21 for 21 on rottentomatoes. I would imagine that will change come Friday.

Like IncantatioN said, it's based off a popular book series... for teenagers. :troll:

I didn't really care for Battle Royale when I first saw it, so I'm even less excited about seeing this on opening night. This movie barely passes as not a rip-off from what I've seen in trailers, but according to wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hunger_Games
The Hunger Games has been criticized for its similarities to the 1999 novel Battle Royale. Although Collins maintains that she "had never heard of that book until [her] book was turned in," The New York Times reports that "the parallels are striking enough that Collins’s work has been savaged on the blogosphere as a baldfaced ripoff," but that "there are enough possible sources for the plot line that the two authors might well have hit on the same basic setup independently."[36] Stephen King noted that the reality TV "badlands" were similar to Battle Royale, as well as The Running Man and The Long Walk.[1] Green also pointed out that the premise of the novel was "nearly identical" to Battle Royale.[31]

It's such a sad detail. It's always so depressing to see adults reading this shit.

Collins’s fiction inevitably echoes other dystopian literature in which states subject their citizens to novel forms of oppression, like George Orwell’s “1984” or Margaret Atwood’s “Handmaid’s Tale.” Even more pronounced are the similarities between “The Hunger Games” and “Battle Royale,” a Japanese novel published in 1999. Each book involves young people selected at random and pitted against one another in a game of survival staged by tyrannical authorities. The parallels are striking enough that Collins’s work has been savaged on the blogosphere as a baldfaced ripoff. The authors share an interest in the mechanisms of state control, but their agendas clearly diverge. “Battle Royale” is a more deliberate study of adolescence, its coming-of-age savageries and posturings. “You’ve become quite a stud,” a dying girl tells the classmate who cradles her in his arms. When it was published, “Battle Royale” played into Japan’s fears about a rise in youth violence; Collins’s heroes are, if anything, models of responsibility. When I asked Collins if she had drawn from “Battle Royale,” she was unperturbed. “I had never heard of that book or that author until my book was turned in. At that point, it was mentioned to me, and I asked my editor if I should read it. He said: ‘No, I don’t want that world in your head. Just continue with what you’re doing.’ ” She has yet to read the book or to see the movie.

Her defense at least sounds plausible. To be fair, this premise is not that imaginative. I thought of this idea for a story when I was in middle school and long before I heard of any of these two books/movies.

I'm just talking about premise here, not my ability to construct a completed work fiction.

Michael Bay talks Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by 'stuffwelike' - http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xpi22w_michael-bay-talks-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles_shortfilms#from=embediframe

“When you see this movie, kids are going to believe, one day, that these turtles actually do exist when we are done with this movie. These turtles are from an alien race and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely lovable.”

A day later, after fan outrage and shouts of Teenage Mutant Alien Turtles, he responded on his website - http://www.shootfortheedit.com/forum/showthread.php?10389-Ninja-turtles

Fans need to take a breath, and chill. They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world.
