...After I saw an old movie called The Boondock Saints back in 2000.   I'm not talking just an average movie; I'm talkin' a movie that REALLY left an impression. (Pulp fiction was another example), oh and I simply CAN'T FORGET Bruce almighty!

Indeed, I really liked The Boondock Saints.

A movie called Equillibrium had the same effect a while ago, and Sin City nearly floored me with its awesomeness.

Amen to Sin City; it was off the wall - I had to watch it twice.  Gotta see equillibrium

Yeah, Boondock Saints was cool. It had everything but the kitchen sink (it had the toilet). Sin City was friggin amazing also! The latest good movie I seen was Walk the Line, it was good. Seriously, good movies are so few and far between these days.

Last movie I saw that left a lasting impression was Léon AKA The Professional.  It was made in 1994, but I just recently saw it for the first time.  Jean Reno plays an assassin that takes a 12 year old Natalie Portman under his wing.  It's one of those movies that you can't stop thinking about after you see it...

If it was Equillibrium with Christian Bale, that movie kicked some major ass!  :guts:
(it was awesome)

It's a toss up for me between Sin City and Unleashed.

With Sin City the whole style to it and the way it stuck to the comic was just insane. I have to pick up the new extended edition that comes out tomorrow :).

With Unleashed (aka Danny the Dog) I loved the storyline and the action. To me it had some of the best looking fight scenes in a movie. So brutal yet for the most part kept a bit realistic aswell. Unlike most action movies though it (imo) had a very good storyline to it that kept you interested in and caring about the character.

Also, if you liked Leon, might I suggest "Nikita."

It's another Luc Besson film with a female lead to a similar role as Leon (but a completely different story/style).
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100263/

They took his movie and made both a US version of the movie named "The point of no return," then the series ""La Femme Nikita."

I liked Besson's movie a lot better though.
(he's one of my favorites, The fifth element, leon, unleashed, etc).

I'd have to say Sin City. Probably my only gripe was the music seemed a little off in places but that was is really.

Though I did really like Unleashed, I know some will call me a blasphmer but I think that is quite possibly one of Jet Li's best movies. It had well filmed, great looking action, awesome acting from all areas, and a great story (a rarity in action, especially martial arts flicks).

After I saw Kill Bill part one in the theaters.

I'm pretty sure if I saw walk the line or Narnia I'd be saying the same thing.

I thought narnia was kinda bad, just my opinon though.

The characters didn't have much develoment together at all and it made the story fell realy really disconnected and rushed because of it, plus a little cheesy at certain points in the movie. (Like when Peter asks orieus if he's "with him" and Orieus says "to the death," yet they don't even seem to know each other at all and we haven't even got much screen time with Orieus.)

I don't remember the book being look that, seemed like they tried to rush through it and cram as much as they could into it.

I thought Goodnight and Goodluck was a pretty damn good film. But I don't think it's the type of movie you're talking about, so  Sin City was really solid - as was Kill Bill, the first Matrix (which by now you have probably seen it). I've heard great things about the new King Kong. I also found Narnia to be somewhat weak...

 :isidro: Boondock Saints? Really?! :isidro:

The only decent things about Walk the Line were the musical segments, just like Ray. Everything else was unengaging and uninteresting.

Good Night, and Good Luck was great.
But if it's not the type of movies we are talking about, then what is? Second-rate action flicks?

Then how about Advent Children:carcus:

We often went to the cinema, the screen would light up and we would tremble, but also, increasingly often, Madeleine and I were disappointed. The images had dated, they jittered, and Marilyn Monroe had gotten terribly old. We were sad, this wasn't the film we had dreamed of, this wasn't the total film that we all carried around inside us, this film that we would have wanted to make, or, more secretly, no doubt, that we would have wanted to live.

The last "good" movie I saw was March of the Penguins last weekend (netflix rules).  However I can't think of the last movie I said "Damn that movie was good!".  Usually cause that sort of statement comes from my expectations to the contrary.   Sure, Sin City and Boondock Saints were good, but they were just meeting my expectations.

Good Night, and Good Luck was great.
But if it's not the type of movies we are talking about, then what is? Second-rate action flicks?

Unfortunately that movie is playing no where around here, so I'll have to wait for the DVD  :puck:

Then how about Advent Children:carcus:

Whats that?  :griff:

That would be Salinui Chueok ("Memories of Murder"), that I saw a couple of years ago. I'm echoing rené's sentiment though, are you guys only talking about second-rate action flicks?

Oh yea? I'll have to check that out (Just added to my netflix que, netflix rules btw)

In that case you should all check out March of the Penguins.  It involves penguins in death defying stunts.  Guns and explosions aplenty.  :troll:
Well, ok, no its not an "action" movie I guess.  But it is a well shot documentary edited together like a movie.  Done by a french company, I believe.

couldnt agree wih you more... that movie was crap... not to mention the absurd amount of scenes brimming with enough pedophelia undertones to make you cringe and squirm in your seat... "come back to my place, i have cookies and sardines and tea and an unsurmountable craving for kiddy porn..."

santa claus handing out weaponry? ... ? ... ?

I dont think Sin City or Unleashed were second rate action flicks, and would like to say Good Night and Good Luck was pretty bad in my opinion but whatever, to each his own.

I wouldn't really say it has anything to do with pedophelia, rather simply someone wanting to have company.

Mny many children's stories have that sort of character to them.

You can't tell me as a kid you didn't want a friend from one of the books you read or such.

I guess the reason I'm not rushing out to see it is 'cause it just looks like a watered down version of LotR.  Not that I'm not a fan of the books (well, actually I've only read the first one when I was a kid).  Dunno, just doesn't scream out to me.
