Was that the actor in Ong Bak?

Yeah, that's him. Teaser looks ok, I hope it'll be better that Ong-Bak. Tony Jaa really has a great potential.

brilliant teaser. That move where tony helps the baddie to do splits is highly original and the spiderman styled wall to wall jumps defy gravity once more.

@aaz
didn't like ong-bak?

I found the movie to be a totally generic action flick with a clumsy plot and mediocre actors, Tony Jaa and his actions scenes were its only redeeming feature. So I'd like to imagine that he'll star in a good movie someday, it would be nice to see.

My favorite part in Ong-Bak remains the opening scene were he trains alone at night.

got the Thai DVD a year ago and watched it continously ever since.
Didn't recognize any plot or mediocre actors but I've only been skipping from action scene to action scene.

The movie works like porn where criticising the plot or actors is completely useless. Take a look at Unleashed aka Danny the dog. The fighting works and the emotional plot parts work but it just doesn't feel like a whole movie, tho.

And try to review The big boss, Fist of fury or any other late 70ies fighting flick. These weren't potential Oscar nominees either.

The night training sequence in Ong Bak is indeed impressive. Shows the amount of control he has. Wow

Yeah. My point is really just that Ong-Bak wouldn't work without Tony Jaa, and that it would be cool if he played in a movie that didn't entirely rely on him to be interesting.

the production company did another movie called Born to fight. It's some kind of hostage movie with lots of over the top stunts. As with Ong bak the plot is crappy but it's fun to watch exept for the violence which is a bit too much at times and works against the popcorn athmosphere a bit.

Concerning Tony what would a Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee or Jet Li film be without them in it? Good example against this might be HERO, which is absolutely great but I prefer to have some of Jet's trademarks in a film.
What kind of movie do you have in mind? Citizen Kane with martial arts parts? Plot is for arthouse I think

BTW the next tony yaa film will be SWORD, swordplay in ancient Thailand.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was thinking about.

Anyway without being extreme, I don't mind no brainer action movies myself, but that wasn't really Ong-Bak's case. All that stuff about the girl getting intro drugs for whatever stupid reason, the evil guy stealing statues, the village betrayer but still good inside, etc was superfluous. You're right about all these classics being in the same wagon, but that doesn't change my opinion.

If they're going to play it like that they could just take their responsabilities and make a real no-plot all-action flick. I'd rather just have the main character in an arena with bad guys coming in one after another until the end. But since they're going to have plot to fill in between fighting scenes, at least they can try and make it entertaining, that's it.

Now we're talking about Thailandese film-making and that's already good for them to be able to release movies worldwide, can't blame them for trying to emulate Hollywood/Hong Kong action movies. If it could be above the average Dolph Lundgren/Ice Cube production, all the better.

watch Tears of the black tiger that's an interesting Thai movie. Weird but good. Western with some Gone with the wind references. The use of color will make you go blind within seconds

Saw the trailer looks good. This may be a stupid question but are those guys arms really being broken damn that looks so real.

Gotta try it on my cousin. ;D

Sure, they hire stuntmen and break their arms for $200 a day, no shit.

..... Oh ok.

Now as for that slow mo shot where the dude gets kicked in the head, I have NO idea how they did that. Unless it was a mistake and they just kept it because there's no point in the guy getting a concussion for no reason.

One without a laughable villain and an extended motorized-tricycle chase scene.

Go and watch New Police Story. There you got ultra hip internet criminals plus you get rollerblade and bungee sequences. whooooo

Seems Tom yum got a boat race similar to the tricycle race.

Best villain ever is Count Zarth Arn in the glorious movie Starcrash! Believe me

Well, they're stuntmen after all, there's probably a trick of some sort. Obviously they're not going to be doing that all day long without any kind of protection or the poor guys would have to eat soup for the rest of their lives, but I'm sure that they end up in the Emergency Room fairly often anyway.

Great teaser, I'm really looking forward to this one, this guy could become something great as a martial arts film star and he isn't even Chinese! As a martial art I have to admit I admire Thai boxing alot more than Kung Fu as far as a practical martial art so I think it's a good thing, though Ong bak I think had alot of faults outside of the fight scenes.

I can only presume it's because their country is new to making films on this level, prehaps like it was for Bruce Lee when he and Raymond Chow made "The Big Boss". I heard this movie is set in Australia which is interesting.
