Haha looks like Walter and you were right on the money.
The Dr. Evil line at 2:36 cracked me up. You wouldn't say, but Foss is a comedian disguised as a politician.  :carcus:
The South Park and JFK bits were nice too. Cartman = Carcus  :isidro:

Thats good stuff!  Happy to have it back.
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

Well, Berserk abridged is over. The ending was more than I expected, but it certainly wasn't the most hilarious thing I had ever seen. I did like his points about angry violent music and angry violent anime.  I was surprised to hear that hbi2k actually cried when he saw the ending to the anime. It certainly was tragic and shocking, but I didn't think it actually made people cry.

I liked the abridged series too, but I never thought it would seriously be enough to interest someone in the discussions we have here.

The Unofficial Berserk Abridged review series
« Reply #31 on: September 26, 2008, 12:43:14 AM »
Well I wanted to reply to the old topic on the show but since that had passed the 120 day mark, I decided to start a new one because that's the way things are done around here.

Berserk Abridged to be honest, is my favorite spin-off of all Berserk and that includes actually being better than the anime itself.  It's a parody that often goes for the cheap laughs but then again, so does Mel Brooks and the intelligent humor in the show is also deeply welcome.  It's genuinely good material and I wish that the man could make some money off of it like the people that Red vs. Blue did.  I don't like any other Abridged Series but I've watched Berserk Abridged on a dozen or more occasions.  I've probably watched the series itself, back to back, six times.

What I absolutely love about the Abridged series is its reasonably strong characterization throughout the work.  Guts being portrayed as a lovable doofus is such a wonderful choice that it always makes me laugh.  Honestly, I think the parody voice for Guts is actually better than the Dub voice for the anime.  Likewise, the obvious joke about Griffith being in gay-UST for Guts would be a cheap gag if not for the fact that it's pretty clearly subtext in the canonical Berserk as well.  Casca's portrayal as a whiny shrew is only a slight exaggeration of the actual treatment she gets during the arc.

Plus I am a HUGE fan of Final Fantasy fan, so the constant references to it made it all the better.

The best portrayal in the series, however, has got to be Zodd the Immortal and the Snake Baron (named "Phil" in a wonderful subversion).  Zodd is a brutish psychotic berserker but not unintelligent and his voice just makes the story all the better.  Despite the Snake Baron's expressions being reused constantly, his acting is amongst the best in the series as the intelligent evil sidekick to Zodd's cruel thuggery.  Even the characterizations of minor characters like Judeau and Corkus are consistent over the series.  Honestly, I found Judeau's love for Casca strangely touching in the Abridged series as all the right notes are hit for his honest love of her.  Likewise, Corkus being a murder obsessed nut is just awesome.

Well no, it's not the way things are done around here. So I merged your new thread with the old one. That makes for a convenient summary of what's available at least. :guts:

As for your praiseful review, I have to say it surprises me. Is this really better than the animated series it uses for its own material in your opinion? Because I doubt even the author of those parodies thinks so. Don't take me wrong, I don't think the TV series was all that good, but honestly, neither are those videos. I've already given my opinion in the thread and I don't want to insist on it, but seriously, those just aren't funny at all to me (and I watched quite a bit of them, not just from this series but from the others he's made as well in order to be sure). And your talk of brilliant portrayals and wonderful subversions makes me wonder if you're not the one that's actually joking. I understand that people have different types of humor, but come on, there's a limit.

It's a parody that often goes for the cheap laughs but then again, so does Mel Brooks and the intelligent humor in the show is also deeply welcome.

Uhh yeah, "cheap" is also how I would qualify it. I wouldn't quite compare it to Mel Brooks though. :schierke:

Some of it is god awful. Some of it made me laugh :shrugs: guess that makes it the best "abridged" series out there so far.
For every single day you lived, for every fragment of your broken dream, the night is so evanescing.
Don't let anyone walk over your dreams, don't let them fall on the path.
If they do, I will be one meter behind you, I'll pick up and clean them for you.

I've been avoiding Abridged series like the plague recently. The original abridger, Littlekuriboh used to be so good, until he too jumped the shark, catering to his fans more so than the actual content of what a parody should be.

That being said, I did watch Berserk abridged fairly recently (when I got into it) and it is one of the better abridged series. To be fair, it was pretty good until around episode 18. He started to get lazy there and the entire ending was just a cop out to me.
